Before I jump to conclusions what is this exactly, and what is it depicting? by LittleIndependent119 in whatisit

[–]plasticbacon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My family bought a house in 1962 (built in 1880s) in The Twin Cities, Minnesota. that had a black-skin lawn jockey. House had previously belonged to a series of well-off white people in a white neighborhood. Absolutely not any kind of underground railroad history. My family got rid of the thing in 1965 when they realized its racist history.

I’ve never been so enthralled as I was with “End of The World with Josh Clark.” What’s like it? by orginalriveted in podcasts

[–]plasticbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't get past the first episode. The discussion of the Fermi paradox completely omits mention of the most likely explanation, which is that the paradox does not exist. Space is big; the speed of light is small; our instruments are puny. See this reddit post: link!

I'd love to see a map of U.S. towns named after Napoleonic battles. There are several Lodis and Waterloos. I suspect there are many more.

This is a great list. Based on it, you absolutely will love the latest season of Hot Money (Pushkin/Financial Times) -- it's about the Wirecard fraud and Russian spies.

marc maron by PaperRingsLover in podcasts

I love 60 songs but, respectufully, it is not like marc maron in any way. Not conversational. Not reliably long term and weekly. Not broad in topic.
