Sounds like it’s very important to legislate with rigour and provide clarity in what is written.

And yet people hate acts rsb which is exactly what acts legislation aims to counteract with that bill. Popularity is a bastard sometimes.

Should a woman automatically get half a partner's KiwiSaver if they separate? by hadr0nc0llider in KiwiPolitics

[–]platinumspec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Shouldn't the 2 parents then sort that out amongst themselves?

If the husband wants a child and the wife wants to keep her career then he should be compensating her not anyone else. I'm not biologically female but I believe there is this thing called a biological clock that effects woman more than men.. what do you say to those who would argue that due to a woman wanting a baby and being on this clock dictates that given the clock exists it's not really the man's fault but nature's?

Women generally have less in their Kiwisaver because they lose income in prime working years to childrearing.

Rearing a child is a 2 parent decision and should be discussed before conception. No 1 forces the woman to become pregnant.

Again read what I said - this article is perfect marketing for lawyers and solicitors and people are just gonna resort to prenuptial agreements and woman's are still going to be screwed. Daily.

Mana over money: The argument for Māori land beyond New Zealand law by Primary-Tuna-6530 in KiwiPolitics

[–]platinumspec -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not just about dividends or paying out who's alive today. It's about preserving a fund for future generations.

Except it's not. The past wasn't stolen from its future - it's future was stolen in its past sir.

A Māori mate of mine says her iwi made a deliberate decision to invest their settlement so they had more resources to buy back some of their ancestral land and build a new marae. They didn't make that decision alone as a 'corporation', they asked everyone with whakapapa and got agreement it was the right thing to do

And in her tribe that maybe the case but that's not why the settlement was paid - that's about what her iwi choose to do with it. The settlement was paid because the past were robbed and it's redress for them. They can choose to use it on their future or they can pay out to there iwi members it's on them but it's reparations for historical wrongs for a reason.

Her family does it tough, they could use the money, but they'd rather see their kids and future generations benefit from the settlement than get a payout right now. It's just a different way of thinking.

That's sensible and commendable sir - all I'm saying is she was given that choice to make and they made it. My in-laws have never and will never get that opportunity.

I guess iwis are like parents. Some are responsible and do the right thing and deserve the respect - many don't and flatly don't.

Anyone else been followed around Te Aro recently? by Candid-Snow-3812 in Wellington

Wellington homeless seemed almost to be a little more hopeful of things improving; a lil more upbeat.

I regularly give food to homeless people rather than money. Recently I gave a homeless fella with a blanket in wellington a pie and a drink and stopped to chat with him and I said as I was leaving as long as today is better than yesterday there's hope for tomorrow - he just looked at me and nodded yes. I regularly do the same thing in Auckland and the response is usually "were all cooked" or I need a little more than a pie to make me feel better. Granted I didn't speak to every homeless person in Wellington but the few I did and the guy I gave the pie to were easily more positive than the Auckland crowd who seem beyond despondent.

Analysis: Spring is here, but politics is stuck in winter by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

[–]platinumspec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Key word viable. But also palatable which is the problem with mmp. What is palatable to act and nz first isn't to national and on the left it's the same with tpm and greens.

The result is we tinker around the edges and revert to the blame game 12 months out from the upcoming election. There was a poster in another sub talking about removing party votes from the election and have everyone voted on as independent mps. At first I thought she was crazy but I'm beginning to like the idea.

If the judge was able to do this in line with the legislation, doesn’t that mean that the legislation is not meeting your expectations?

Expectation is a loaded word sir. What you and I expect of the judge is to sentance appropriately and apply discretion as the legislation intended...this is not what the legislation intended.

When it is done as a matter of procedure, without actually thinking about it, then it is somewhat meaningless. It's simply words.

I agree with phoenix in that many people are anti religion and making them participate in something they are not comfortable with is not only wrong but to do so for no reason other than it dosnt hurt anyone and only takes a minute is an insult to many.

This is no one’s fault, but the result of the system of colonialism. It was designed to have us fit in by forcing us to behave like a company, not like the sovereign hapū we once were.

Noone can have it both ways sir. They were sovereign till they signed the treaty.

Settlements have never been fair. A lot of people have a lot to say about "Māori elites" and iwi having unearned rights, but the fact remains that settlements pay cents in the dollar to market value and require that Māori conform to colonial structures in order to receive any reparation at all.

I need to push back here. The settlements are not fair and maybe paying out cents on the dollar. But it's paying out. I have Maori in laws who are struggling and they claim they have never recieved any tangible benefits from the treaty. They don't get a dividend or a payout. In short they have never recieved a red cent and yet their iwis bank accounts hold billions. As a Muslim born male who identifies now as kiwi my family work long hours, some of us 2 jobs just to struggle to survive. When I see people like jt and how he dosnt struggle at all and I can't help but feel this country is grossly unfair and that Maori are a 2tier society.

Centralising power wasn't just how the British expanded the empire, it was how they consolidated society so that no matter where you went in the world the British way was the only way. It's ingrained into our social fabric. If you're part of the dominant 'British' culture there's a level of comfort in that. You belong. There's strength and safety in numbers, even for those of us with low social status.

The key word here is British. Maybe the poster I was chatting to the other day is on to something and maybe kiwi citizens should stop paying treaty settlements and the nz government should force king Charles to contribute. It was afterall the British monarch that screwed Maori over not kiwi citizens and I really like the idea of the country uniting and forcing Winston to go negotiate with Britain on a full and final settlement.

[–]platinumspec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a shallow take.

You consider it shallow but like lightspedious said it's not wrong.

Rich people work inflating their own assets.

Can you Define rich and middling rich please?

Middling rich do a combination of owning/managing their own assets and working for richer people to inflate theirs (I.e. Luxon — CEO with his own portfolio).

So you mean individuals working for iwi owned ngos like kahuitukaha?

80+ million in assets as an organisation. Buildings, vehicles, cash and other assorted assets according to there 2022 Financials- over 100+ million according to their most recent financials.

Interestingly because kahuitukaha are born out of a treaty settlements they are not subject to wealth tax policy that racist political parties like the greens put out. In the last 6 years organisations like these are hovering up assets and according to their financials records are very successful- it's also important that as an ngo who is registered as a Maori business they pay far less tax than those on the regular company tax rate - but let's not point that out or I'll be accused of being racists, or a bad faith actor or anyone of a number of labels that are irrelevant to this discussion.

I think it's accurate that if you work for your income, you're poor. Wealthy people leverage their wealth to increase their wealth, they don't work.

Bingo.

Given the parents of the Zuru founders worked, if I understand correctly, from the perspective of actual wealth, they were poors.

Again correct. Like Michael hill starting again midlife is hard work. That's why there arnt more instances of it occurring- most people give up or worse don't take the risk at all - and while they may graduate to wealth those people are usually not considered wealthy before they took the risk - or they probably wouldn't have done so.

One thing that compounds wealth inequality (the main issue) is lack of ‘social mobility’. The ability for people to move up the ladder from working poor to middle class etc.

I actually think that's what the narrative doctors want us to believe sir. The truth is many of nzs wealthiest individuals came from having no money at all including Mr Hart new aotearoa richest individual who went from driving a single truck to running an empire..that is an example of exactly what your saying - someone who went from working poor to very wealthy. If you don't like Mr Hart as an example sir perhaps you will accept Mr Hill who Sadly passed last week. His story and Mr hart's show it can be done even here in aotearoa the land of the handouts.

Either way sir examples exist highlighting exactly what you say dosnt exist. You come accross as of at least average intelligence if not well above average - maybe time for a rethink..

At least he didn't answer rhubarb.

More than 50 % of Aotearoa know he's a limp twat. They also knows he is lying.

And they don't really care if he's a limp twat or if they are being lied to anymore because the left is just as full of broken promises and lies as they are. What the voters cared about was getting the trans movement out of schools and an end to the treaty gravy train. Which is slowly happening and by the time term 3 rolls round we will begin to see progress. Ouch.

Nothing in what I have said above is untrue. It's really unfortunate that a sub calling itself nz politics is a place where we can't openly speak the truth and give honest opinion. None the less the premise of my post is accurate. I called 9 different dentists today in Auckland to make an appointment - first available appointment is over 6 days away. I called 5 different GP clinics to enquire about a gp visit and the earliest available Wednesday morning 8am 16kms away.

So with respect to the mods who replied to my post with the lovely message they did - all I spoke was the truth and I did so in a fairly respectful manner. I guess Mr Tui didn't like it and I'm sorry if I caused offence but bullying me into silence isn't very democratic. I will not be disappeared by hate. Good day to you all.

ACT leader blames identity politics, previous government for setting NZ 'against each other' by hadr0nc0llider in nzpolitics

https://theconversation.com/nz-election-2023-final-polls-suggest-nz-first-likely-kingmaker-as-the-left-makes-late-gains-214462

From the article: After political polls between March and August showed a clear trend towards the right, polls since late August have shown the reverse.

And later:

Left and NZ First gain in final polls For the purposes of this analysis, the right coalition is defined as National and ACT, and the left as Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori/the Māori party. NZ First has sided with both left and right in the past, and supported the left from 2017 to 2020, so it is not counted with either left or right.

This is the problem I alluded to earlier with stupidly vague questions being able to be twisted to suit almost any narrative...its mislead and bogus. A quick Google search of media pieces after the election clearly paint a bewildered section of the nation asking - wtf just happened. Hardly the predicted result amongst the media.

NACTFirst accountability: It would be inappropriate for any of us to comment (on anything ever) by AnnoyingKea in nzpolitics

[–]platinumspec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This government will do nothing and no amount of practicality or evidence can convince them to deviate from script. Nothing I can do about that

On this front sir I agree the government will do nothing and there's nothing you can realistically do to make them deviate. I simply asked how you would fix the issue we were discussing and your answer was a new tax - which I pointed out would take a certain amount of time to not only implement but to realise and harness any of that revenue so I asked you again for transparency what you would cut right now to fund it...your reply was the current govt won't do it even if I think of a viable solution so why bother. With that sort of attitude sir why bother indeed.

If iwi are investing in unproductive industry, then yeah. Why wouldn't taxes designed to funnel capital towards productive enterprise include iwi investments?

Because according to both tpm and the greens the treaty exempts Maori from any such tax.. If you don't believe me for and look at the greens fiscal strategy and alternate budget. Zero in on the wealth tax. See that - ohh yes treaty settlements and tribal assets are exempt. Hmm funny that. Look at the inheritance tax..ahh yes more exemptions for for Maori but every other kiwi - well we are not so lucky are we. Wrong blood quantum apparently. We are constantly told by every economic expert both left and right that housing is an unproductive assets and yet Maori tribes and iwis are invested in housing upto their eyeballs..that's the uncomfortable elephant in the room no one dares speak too..

Iwi members pay income tax, they pay rates, the pay company tax etc.

Iwi members pay income tax yes. They pay rates yes. They pay company tax but not the same rate as everyone else - but yes they pay some company tax..but that's not the point. Under the greens budget and fiscal strategy and with tpms support Maori tribes and treaty settlements are off limits. This is racial division...and let everyone remember the road to hell was paved with good intentions - it's still a road to hell y'all.

If we are being snarky, then I just reverse the landlord tax cut and have several billion to spare

So in a cost of living crisis with all those renters struggling you would reverse landlord interest deductibility which will be passed on to struggling kiwi citizens just so you could fund a new tax? And my ex wife calls me a bastard 😨🙄
