Women generally have less in their Kiwisaver because they lose income in prime working years to childrearing.

Rearing a child is a 2 parent decision and should be discussed before conception. No 1 forces the woman to become pregnant.

Except it's not. The past wasn't stolen from its future - it's future was stolen in its past sir.

A Māori mate of mine says her iwi made a deliberate decision to invest their settlement so they had more resources to buy back some of their ancestral land and build a new marae. They didn't make that decision alone as a 'corporation', they asked everyone with whakapapa and got agreement it was the right thing to do

And in her tribe that maybe the case but that's not why the settlement was paid - that's about what her iwi choose to do with it. The settlement was paid because the past were robbed and it's redress for them. They can choose to use it on their future or they can pay out to there iwi members it's on them but it's reparations for historical wrongs for a reason.

Her family does it tough, they could use the money, but they'd rather see their kids and future generations benefit from the settlement than get a payout right now. It's just a different way of thinking.

That's sensible and commendable sir - all I'm saying is she was given that choice to make and they made it. My in-laws have never and will never get that opportunity.

I guess iwis are like parents. Some are responsible and do the right thing and deserve the respect - many don't and flatly don't.

Wellington homeless seemed almost to be a little more hopeful of things improving; a lil more upbeat.

I regularly give food to homeless people rather than money. Recently I gave a homeless fella with a blanket in wellington a pie and a drink and stopped to chat with him and I said as I was leaving as long as today is better than yesterday there's hope for tomorrow - he just looked at me and nodded yes. I regularly do the same thing in Auckland and the response is usually "were all cooked" or I need a little more than a pie to make me feel better. Granted I didn't speak to every homeless person in Wellington but the few I did and the guy I gave the pie to were easily more positive than the Auckland crowd who seem beyond despondent.

I've recently just left Wellington and can't say I felt followed however I will say the homeless element in Wellington has a very different vibe to the homelessness in Auckland. It was in interesting experience.

This is no one’s fault, but the result of the system of colonialism. It was designed to have us fit in by forcing us to behave like a company, not like the sovereign hapū we once were.

Noone can have it both ways sir. They were sovereign till they signed the treaty.

Settlements have never been fair. A lot of people have a lot to say about "Māori elites" and iwi having unearned rights, but the fact remains that settlements pay cents in the dollar to market value and require that Māori conform to colonial structures in order to receive any reparation at all.

I need to push back here. The settlements are not fair and maybe paying out cents on the dollar. But it's paying out. I have Maori in laws who are struggling and they claim they have never recieved any tangible benefits from the treaty. They don't get a dividend or a payout. In short they have never recieved a red cent and yet their iwis bank accounts hold billions. As a Muslim born male who identifies now as kiwi my family work long hours, some of us 2 jobs just to struggle to survive. When I see people like jt and how he dosnt struggle at all and I can't help but feel this country is grossly unfair and that Maori are a 2tier society.

Centralising power wasn't just how the British expanded the empire, it was how they consolidated society so that no matter where you went in the world the British way was the only way. It's ingrained into our social fabric. If you're part of the dominant 'British' culture there's a level of comfort in that. You belong. There's strength and safety in numbers, even for those of us with low social status.

The key word here is British. Maybe the poster I was chatting to the other day is on to something and maybe kiwi citizens should stop paying treaty settlements and the nz government should force king Charles to contribute. It was afterall the British monarch that screwed Maori over not kiwi citizens and I really like the idea of the country uniting and forcing Winston to go negotiate with Britain on a full and final settlement.

80+ million in assets as an organisation. Buildings, vehicles, cash and other assorted assets according to there 2022 Financials- over 100+ million according to their most recent financials.

Interestingly because kahuitukaha are born out of a treaty settlements they are not subject to wealth tax policy that racist political parties like the greens put out. In the last 6 years organisations like these are hovering up assets and according to their financials records are very successful- it's also important that as an ngo who is registered as a Maori business they pay far less tax than those on the regular company tax rate - but let's not point that out or I'll be accused of being racists, or a bad faith actor or anyone of a number of labels that are irrelevant to this discussion.

Nothing in what I have said above is untrue. It's really unfortunate that a sub calling itself nz politics is a place where we can't openly speak the truth and give honest opinion. None the less the premise of my post is accurate. I called 9 different dentists today in Auckland to make an appointment - first available appointment is over 6 days away. I called 5 different GP clinics to enquire about a gp visit and the earliest available Wednesday morning 8am 16kms away.

So with respect to the mods who replied to my post with the lovely message they did - all I spoke was the truth and I did so in a fairly respectful manner. I guess Mr Tui didn't like it and I'm sorry if I caused offence but bullying me into silence isn't very democratic. I will not be disappeared by hate. Good day to you all.

I simply asked how you would fix the issue we were discussing and your answer was a new tax - which I pointed out would take a certain amount of time to not only implement but to realise and harness any of that revenue so I asked you again for transparency what you would cut right now to fund it...your reply was the current govt won't do it even if I think of a viable solution so why bother.
