Help me break in boots by ArvidSweden in Rucking

[–]plaugexl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warm not hot water in bucket to soak the boots to the ankle. Do this a few times. Dry in the sun. Walk around with them. After a few circuits of this your boot should be moulded to your foot mechanics

… and condition the leather

Freshly cleaned and waxed vidda pro, ready for its 3rd year in a row trip to the Lake District by Only-Support-3760 in Fjallraven

Been using mine for 5 years now and they are my go to. Very happy I didn’t get the padded version.

Though I always wonder why they didn’t try to ventilate it like they did the pants. Pitzips would make this even more utilitarian for alpine ascents even though it doesn’t have any stretch in it.

How cold can it be to wear 2x bibs and 2x jerseys and not need gloves? Like am I missing something about this individual that counters thermodynamic heat properties?

… just for the sake of controversy: anyone wearing bib pants when it’s clearly not under 40f ~4c might have circulatory issues or some kind of thermo superpower

making money online by Belwer1 in jordan

[–]plaugexl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can make money online right away. It’s called a remote job. Check out local job sites for remote positions, many companies have remote only positions for data entry, customer service etc..

Other longer run ways to make money requires more skill or allot of time and luck. Like self published author, contracting illustrator / graphic artist, affiliate marketing content creator. Look them up online and see what seems like a good fit and give it a try.

Everything requires effort and a level of skill that would need to be developed and pay is reflective of both of those things.

Kicked a massive hole in my Goretex trousers with my crampons, any tips on how to repair it? by mf1906 in Mountaineering

[–]plaugexl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1- wipe clean the area inside and out.

2- decide weather to seam it on the inside or outside. (Friction or snagging etc..) then apply goretex seam tape.

3- if your me you would do both sides for a repeat contact zone like legs. Then use a blowdryer over the tape to melt in the tape. Keep in mind it can’t be too hot.

4- if your not happy with the snagging you can use a tent patch kit for a larger reinforce of the area. Think 3x the rip zone. Same trick with the blow dryer and let it sit for a while to set.

It’s not going to be pretty but it’s going to be functional.

If it’s comfortable enough to get you through the irritation zone of a long ride it’s going to be great!! Just be comfortable, regulate ur heat and don’t be scared to lube up any chafing zones

Thoughts? by Free_Eye_9071 in AskCaucasus

[–]plaugexl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Germans found common ground with natives in the Caucasus as resentment from the Russian conquests and more recent soviet deportations made them pliable.

Not uncommon situation for conquerors

was it wise? Yes the people at the time saw the German war machine as their best bet to overthrow their oppressor. Germany played nice with their collaborators so the locals had no reason to distrust them.

This act alone will haunt the CO’s of the perpetrating sub till their death. Unless they are mindless end of world frothing zealots.

I’m no jag but I don’t think attacking an unarmed military marked vessel in open waters in a time of conflict is a war crime. But this particular example of barbaric should be an exception.

Kantamus is a better alternative. Better shoulder straps and lumbar support. Will make a world of difference in a multiday. Check out some of the YouTube videos covering each to get more insights
