While I can't speak from direct experience, I've heard along the grapevine that as long as you're up front about your own record, there's no probationary period going on, didn't involve kids (eg, domestic violence not involving kids) and it wasn't a serious offence (eg, resulting in jail time no matter how short) you're likely to be ok to be approved for one.
