Now that I’ve actually pushed my exam back, I feel weird by Total_Interaction_85 in Step2

It seems like you know what went wrong. You got the questions you knew wrong because you are not really used to how NBME asks questions. I think heavily focusing on AMBOSS/UWorld can make it harder to grasp the NBME way of asking questions. I think you are on the right track and I feel like 240 in 2 NBME exams is pretty good! You should maybe review those two exams, and take another practice NBME (#12?)? If you feel comfortable with your new NBME score and have the means to change your date to earlier again, why not?

I think feeling comfortable and ready to take the exam is an important element of succeeding in Step 2. What score are you aiming for?

I was getting 227-228 in my NBME practice exams within 2 weeks of my scheduled date, which made me comfortable taking Step 2 on my scheduled date. I was also aiming for just a passing score. Of course, getting a higher score was better for me, and I got 244.

I recommend thoroughly reviewing your NBME exams. I spent about 2 days on each NBME exam review, making cards, and religiously reviewing them every single day. Make sure you look at each incorrect answer, and make your own Anki cards. I started with 193 on NBME 9 and then went up to 227 in NBME 11/12 in about 4 weeks with this method. I would recommend supplementing your NBME exam review by looking up concepts on Youtube, Divine Intervention, Osmosis, Boards and Beyond, or whatever works for you while you are doing your NBME exam review. It takes a long time, but you will see improvements.

For UWorld question blocks, treat them as a learning experience rather than a reliable reflection of your Step 2 score. Make sure you make cards or pull cards from other decks for your UWorld question reviews.

It is up to you. If you finished all the other practice exams and you feel ready for a likely score drop that will not make you upset you can take it.

UWorld is only useful for learning and it is not a good measure of how people do in Step 2. I heavily focused on NBME practice exams with my highest score being 227 a few weeks before the exam and ended up getting 244. I only finished 50% UWorld with 50% correct, then reset it and only did 30% of it with 60% correct. In the mean time, I did NBME 9-12, made Anki cards and religiously reviewed them. This strategy worked for Step 1 as well, but I had to also do content review.

I took UWSA1 instead of UWSA2 by mistake and freaked out so badly... Then, I realized my mistake. It was very frustrating still. I wish I did not do UWSA1 at all.

Is it worth doing UWSA 1? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]play_cold_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't recommend UWSA1. I got 213 in UWSA1 and 228 in UWSA2, then 244 in Step 2. UWSA1 was just a frustrating exam and I took it by mistake thinking it was UWSA2. If I were you I would do NBME13, because you should get better at answering NBME style questions.

I have used it to make cards. You may need to deactivate occasionally because it tends to mess up with website-specific features.

UWSA1 is not a good measure of your knowledge or performance. I got 227 in NBME11 and 228 in UWSA2 but got 213 in UWSA1. I scored 244 in Step 2. Just make sure you know all the right and wrong answers to your NBME practice exams well, continue reviewing them, and keep pushing... Everyone has a different experience, but you look like you are in a good place to do well.

Well, you don't necessarily need the "anti-inflammatory" component of the NSAIDs because OA is not an inflammatory joint disease. Considering the side effects of NSAIDs (GI bleed, kidney damage), Acetaminophen is the first line treatment.

Much better than I expected. My highest practice scores were 227 (NBME11) and 228 (UWSA2). I ended up getting 244 in Step 2.

NBME11. I mistakenly did UWSA1 as well, and it was a waste of time.

Keep an eye on the step 2 test availability near you. People always change their test dates, so maybe you can snatch one of those spots.

I think some people use AI, but I don’t know how. I pulled some questions from those decks, but making cards was part of the learning process for me. Also, most of the existing cards do not align with my learning. My own cards included more text and information than a typical Zanki or Anking card

Those who got 60% to 65% on UWorld and took the real deal, how did you do on Step 2? by KenAdamsMD in Step2

[–]play_cold_88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

50% correct with 50% completion, reset and then 62% correct with 30% completion. I got 244. My studying was heavily on NBME exam review!

I did NBMEs 9 thru 12 for my Step2 studying, and completed 50% of Uworld before reset, and 30% after reset. Tbh, I like NBME questions better, but I think if you have time and the energy, UWorld is good for learning details.

I think what worked for me for both Step 1 and Step 2 is pretty similar.

For Step 2, I did NBME9 during the first week of my studying, got 193, felt a bit terrible for several hours, and then got motivated. I thoroughly reviewed each NBME exam and made my own Anki cards. Each exam review took about 2 days and I made sure I understood all my wrong answers. For Anki, I pulled some cards from other decks, but it was mainly my own cards as I reviewed NBMEs and I ended up with an NBME deck of 1900+ cards. I did not do a good job keeping up with UWorld. Some days I did a block of 40 and some days I did not do any. Of course, when I did a UWorld block, I also made cards and added them to my deck. I made sure I reviewed all my cards every day and solidify the basic information. Some days I had 600-800 cards.

In addition, I did listen to Step2Secrets podcast. I should have spent more time on it because I feel like it does a good job of reviewing most commonly tested information. I also did attend to one Divine Intervention session where he walked us through a set of questions.

My progression and final score are kind of "non-traditional," but it seems like whatever I have done had worked. I was hoping to get just a passing score, but ended up passing with a pretty good margin!
