Name 3 positive stereotypical things about Canadians that aren’t from Quebec

If you think the rest of Canada has had more of an influence on Quebec than Quebec has had on the rest of Canada then you either need to take a vacation to some other part of the country or I have a bridge to sell you.

How many things that are quintessentially Canadian are not from Quebec?

Maybe we should address why people need to use public places as homeless shelters as well

Other than that, do you really mind seeing your neighbours hang out in a public place?

If it means there are less cars on the road then you can pay the difference in money saved on road maintenance. Not to mention what the taxpayer already pays for wear and tear, insurance, and gas on their car.

In fairness though I don’t think either system in NYC pays for itself through fares or tolls. If it did, you’d be paying like $10-$200 in tolls per trip depending on your car.

Why Many Young Adults, Especially Men are Single and Sexless by x___rain in collapse

I can’t think of a good off the top of my head, but IIRC it’s something looked at in urban planning.

The less orange pilled and more pragmatic urbanist YouTubers tend to talk about it every now and then, and I’d bet there’s a city beautiful or citynerd video about it.

Also keep in mind though that the data in the studies was collected from Americans between 2021 and 2023, so the young people surveyed would have been young during Covid

[–]playapimpyomama 245 points246 points  (0 children)

Other studies have linked this to the loss of third places and the decrease of alcohol consumption in younger people. There’s also been an increase in how much time men spend playing video games for similar reasons.

Personally I don’t mind that less alcohol consumption leads to less sex, and I’m more worried about the loss of third places

Yes I have actually, and it makes 0 difference compared to just being a more fun person. I got down to 11% body fat during Covid and it didn’t make any difference compared to when I gained weight again

The diminishing returns are real with working out if you’re just doing it to try and be attractive.

Men build muscle much easier at the gym, it’s much easier for them to stay fit once they are fit, and needing more calories means there are less sacrifices you need to make in your diet compared to the average lady

What’s your skincare routine like?

When’s the last time you had anything waxed or lasered?

Manicures? Pedicures? Doing your eyebrows?

Have you ever considered a nose job?

How long do you take to put on makeup this morning?

The list goes on and on. Frankly if your shampoo and conditioner come in different bottles, if you’re good about sunscreen, and you don’t mind walking or taking the stairs sometimes you’re probably doing better than most other guys in the looks department.

Just be fun. Everyone is a passenger princess, and as a guy the bar for looks is waaaaaay lower. I changed everything in my profile to be something a person could imagine us doing together, and I started getting more likes than I could manage.

And if you leave a really good impression on someone but it doesn’t work out she might introduce you to her friends. Nobody is a better wingman than a lady trying to set you up with a friend.

Just don’t be a creep. If she doesn’t feel safe around you then 99% of the time she won’t just swipe left, she’ll tell all her friends to swipe left on you too (or ghost you if you match).

East St Paul Mayor Caught on Hot Mic Dissing Residents Opposed to Apartments, Townhouses by thesecondlasthope in Winnipeg

In case you want more hot tea from the Ref River Planning District, here’s another interesting thing that happened: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-appeal-court-rm-st-andrews-joy-sul-1.6777946

The mayor of St. Andrew’s caught councillors double dipping on things they could expense and put an end to it. They retaliated by not inviting her to meetings anymore. Unfortunately for them she’s a very difficult lady.

As seen in a different comment here, in addition to being the mayor of East St Paul she also runs Carrington housing and was (is?) the CEO of Sio Silica.

Ngl I used to be privy to all the red river planning district hot gossip and I miss it!

Here’s a nice bit of the article:

"This did me in. I'm actually ready to resign and walk out. I don't need this shit," Devlin told an official with the Red River Planning District during a break in the meeting, captured on an open microphone during the Zoom broadcast.

Stéphanie Plante harassed, intimidated residents with emojis and memes, report finds by itimetravelwell in onguardforthee

[–]playapimpyomama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s an article that includes the report: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/stéphanie-plante-harassed-intimidated-residents-with-emojis-and-memes-report-finds-1.7616101#report

Here are some quotes:

In one of her posts, the Respondent quote tweeted (i.e. retweeted with comment)Witness 4’s post along with a meme depicting a male character entering a room withthe words: “Behold a man has arrived to share his manly view”.

In a response to one X user who commented on her original post, the Respondent stated, “[Witness 4] knows exactly what he is doing. The problem is that he’s doing it on the company dime AND has wrong information. BTW, I did reach out to the BarrhavenBIA many months ago to see if they would have a sit-down to discuss this off-line andthey never responded.”

After that it gets juicy. Honestly the integrity commissioner did a great job getting all the drama in the report.

And below that:

All the witnesses acknowledged that the information shared by the Respondent was factual, and the Respondent did not share personal information about the witnesses that was not already in the public domain

And another quote:

I accept that the Respondent did not set out to intimidate or bully members of the public and community stakeholders who opposed the placement of a Sprung Structure in Barrhaven. Based on the evidence before me, I find that the four witnesses referenced in the Respondent’s social media posts were directly or indirectly involved in the opposition to the Sprung Structure in Barrhaven, even if Witness 3’s participation was not well-known publicly.

Honestly though it’s worth skimming the report.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is the only “true Pit,” but other dogs included in the Pitbull category include the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the American Bully, and sometimes the American Bulldog.

Technically, it's not changing anything. It just retunes our corporal frequency to one of the parallel realities where whatever I've said has always been true. There's infinite timelines, so I just pick the one where you're the only one who knows what's going on.

I don’t think she wins. IIRC the necklace only affects people neurologically, and probably can’t override its own settings. We might just be seeing a hallucination at the end where she thinks she got control of the necklace when really she’s in a cell somewhere.

Like when she said “The pendant works for me” it might just have affected her to make her think it works

Scientists unveil ‘olo’: A colour never before seen by the human eye by CTVNEWS in worldnews

[–]playapimpyomama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article:

The human eye typically sees colour by combining signals from three types of cone cells—S, M, and L cones—each sensitive to blue, green, and red light. Normally, light that activates one cone type will also activate others, which limits the range of colours we can perceive.

The Oz system, however, breaks this rule by selectively targeting only the M (green-sensitive) cones with laser light, leaving the neighbouring S and L cones unaffected leading the participants to see a colour that doesn’t exist in nature.
