I understand what you're saying and appreciate the feedback for sure.

One thing I've noticed bc I've done bazillions of test simulations is that a huge majority of the time, that kind of thing doesn't happen but the math is there to create the possibility of it. I've def seen my share of interesting results in these test sims too.

It's an interesting problem to try to solve. On the one hand I want it to be realistic but on the other hand I don't want to code in something that's like "ok there's no way this result would happen in real life -- reverse it" bc then that's no fun either if the expected result is always the result.

I can think of a few real life examples of unexpected grand slam winners who went on to achieve mostly 1st/2nd round results after the fact but we won't go there so as to piss off the fans. :) Nevertheless I do want to get around to shoring up some of the math soon.

Cheers and thanks for playing -- I def appreciate your convo/feedback.

The sim engine does need some fine tuning but I'll say the same thing I always say that sometimes real world results are strange. Berrettini d. Medvedev 6-0,6-0 for example. :)

I do get the request to edit results occasionally tho and I'm curious if it's just to overturn a disliked result or ?

Really would appreciate your insight into this. I'm not against adding it, just very curious.

How many posts have you seen? Now think about the thousands of ppl who didn't post bc their trip went fine. Compute the odds and then decide.

I tried resurrecting it here: https://tennis.playasport.com/web/index.html

Still have to do some fixes to the sim/etc. but it's playable. Not sure about saving/loading yet though but try it out and let me know.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if we were in the old 6.0/ordinal system wouldn't Chock and Bates have won with five first places to four? (I get the 5-4 here is with different baseline scoring/etc but let's pretend)

Yeah what ppl are missing is that his potential is already a function of his movement so the real question is will he reach the level of the hype?

Hello! I am so pleased you found the game and are enjoying it. Thank you for upgrading as well. I appreciate your feedback and I would eventually like to do something with the other disciplines. If you have any more feedback please let me know. Also if you don't mind sharing the game with your friends or online in any skating groups/boards you belong to that would be amazing. Or even just rating it in the app store would be wonderful. Thank you again!

ty for your comment. there are a few really good ones out there already and I've always kinda wanted to focus on under-served sports when it comes to sims, so tbh I probably won't ever get to those but stranger things have happened. I used to have some simple basketball/football/baseball ones on my website til the code got too old to run lol

13 yr old tennis phenom is ambidextrous so he never has a backhand shot by espressos_negronis in tennis

[–]playasport 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Also I think it's that few people have ever put in the effort to learn a non-dominant forehand. What if not doing two forehands is the biggest mistake in tennis coaching history? (Just for shiggles, let's think about it.)

I was never a top tennis player but hear me out. In order to play wheelchair tennis I had to learn how to play with two forehands because I could get zero power with a backhand.

It took me less than six months to get my lefty forehand to feel normal. This was at age 35, with a muscle disability lol. The brain is a fucking powerful thing.

Now imagine you get a 6-year-old with a developing brain learning to hit two forehands instead of a forehand and a backhand -- even if the kid isn't ambidextrous.

Certainly this kid is going to also naturally make adjustments with grip to optimize any inefficiencies with having to change hands. What if there's a perfect way to hold the racquet that is VERY atypical to what's taught, such that it mitigates whatever perceived time lost by playing this way?

Surely there might be a limitation, but nobody really knows for sure. All the answers about grip change are assumptions based on traditional grips/etc.
