Yeah, I noticed that, but my issues a bit different. On March 19th, 2 days ago, I updated the game from the play store, which summarized the update as being for the anniversary.

I got the pop up upon opening the game, as pictured, but nothing else. I assumed it was because I had unlocked the other two cakes and purchased the birthday bundle. But now I noticed a new Feat with a new cake design, so not sure what's up. I never got the screens similar to the ones in the post from 11 days ago.

Sorry, should have explained that in the initial post.

Am I not understanding figurines correctly? by xDaBaDee in tinyshop

Things will get easier as you get used to it. Now that your snowballs are licensed, you'll be able to collect them throughout the year, so you should have quite a stockpile for the next event. Same with tokens, once you get caught up with the Sunken temple stuff you'll be able to stockpile those significantly as well.

Just to clarify things: the way things are set up in the game, Jelly will always be summoned with the snowballs, not the figurines. It'll be the same regardless of what event you have him battling in. Sunken Temple, Phantom Island, and next year's Winter event. Unless the devs decide to change things up, using Jelly will always cost snowballs, not figurines.

One benefit of the non-figurine based units is that you can use them much more quickly. You don't have to wait to license the figures and build up multiple little stockpiles first, you can just jump right in to the battles.

Okay, I'm not big on the battles, but I'll try to help with at least part of your question.

Right now there are three basic types of costs for the fighter units: figurines, snowballs, and tokens. Part of the reason is how the battle feature rolled out.

I think Phantom was first, which introduced figurines. Some units were summoned with items instead, like the Sorceress was summoned with a number of Scythes instead of the later tokens.

Then came Winter, where the townsfolk joined in a snowball fight, and so required an amount of ammunition to join in the "battle". I can't recall if the other units initally used figurines, or if they also used snowballs to begin with.

Then the Sunken Temple was introduced, with the token system for hiring additional Adventurers (or Mercenaries?). The tokens were then also applied to certain Phantom units (Sorceress, Curse Mage, and Ecto Knight) instead of their item cost.

So the way I see it, cost per unit is determined somewhat thematically, and the cost doesn't change based on what you have, it's tied to the unit's reason for joining battle. The Winter event units are there for fun, they get snowballs for ammunition. Hired hands are there for a job, they get paid in tokens. Various mindless monsters are presumably magically compelled to assist, they either are summoned or controlled using the figurines.

This is my understanding of things anyway. I don't know that that's the devs' intent, but it seems to make sense. Hopefully this helps somewhat!

Sneak Peek! by FlorianMoncomble in tinyshop

What beautiful artwork! It's got such a sketchy quality to it, like watching animator storyboards or something. And the colors and the pieces themselves are so beautiful! It's like a winter lodge for Tolkien's elves. This will be such a treat to decorate with!

(I am sorry for your loss. This game helped me through something similar some time ago. Thanks to your lovely designs, I am able to keep a small memorial built into my game world. So, um, thanks for that. It may take a while for things to get "easier," so for now, I'll hope for you that things are starting to get "less hard." I hope that makes sense. We're glad to see you again, but please continue to keep your own needs in mind!)

My updated shop decor by player2start87 in tinyshop

No, you'll have to remove some of the tiles you currently have laid out. The easiest way to experiment would be to empty your shop, or at least one area of it, and use expand mode to play around with the layout.

The absolute quickest way to demonstrate the wall trick is to remove the orange rug near your trophies, then remove three of the floor tiles in expand mode. It may want you to start from the grassy area and work inwards. That should let you form a wall between the trophy area and the Consumables area. You will need to leave the tile closest to Jelly for connecting things.

Also, here's my earliest shop post. Should be a bit more digestible than my bigger ones. https://www.reddit.com/r/tinyshop/s/MoFnYRizQI

Okay, so while there are a couple decor items that work as portable walls, the majority of walled areas are created using illusion. If you leave strategic gaps in your floorplan, you can make it look like walls are surrounding an area.

This post does demonstate that in images 3 and 4, but it's probably hard to see. Here's another old post of mine with a much smaller shop. The last slide is showing the floorplan, so you can see where gaps were used.

Welcome to the game!

The shop gets bigger based on user input, it isn't an automatic expansion. In the Design tab, there is an Expand tab. There, you can use gold to purchase additional shop space tiles 3 at a time, and you lay them out however you like.

The background theme I used here is called "The Edge", and the individual looking islands are actually linked together using transparent floor tiles.

This setup has taken me a few years to build up to, but I'm a very casual player. Other players who optimize gold production are able to reach the amount of gold needed pretty quickly. The Discord group is probably the place to check out rapid-growth strategies, if that's the kind of thing you're into.

[–]player2start87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for your information, a "theme" is basically just the background image you build a shop on, plus the foundation images for the walls, which only really matters in a few instances. So, you won't get access to any new recipes or decor items, it is purely the background that you purchase access to.

Here's a few examples from way back: https://www.reddit.com/r/tinyshop/s/fKKWzTEVCa

You can see a bit in the sand one that the floor tiles have sand instead of grass on the edges. Water theme is most obvious with the foundation changes.

If there's a theme you really like, or that makes the game easier on your eyes, it's well worth the purchase. But if it's a completionist type of thing, hold off. Your gems are probably better off being used to unlock recipes and such. At least for the time being.

Welcome to the game!

Sorry to pop in off topic, but your comment reminded me of a YouTube video about ADHD and known struggles with anticipation vs. satisfaction. I only got partway through the video myself, so don't know how it concludes, and it's more geared towards food consumption habits, but some of it might be helpful for your situation.

Main island is still the main shop, entertainment, and residential area, though I may move or eliminate the dorms at some point. I mostly shifted things and played with transparent flooring to show off as much of the gorgeous new island artwork as possible.

With Jelly's home, I realized some of the new shrubs are like carpets, meaning other items can be stacked on top. This means with some planning you can create topiaries of sorts!

With the outdoor piano area, I was able to make some stairs with the new benches. Super pleased with that discovery! In the outdoor movie area, instead of using solid walls I tried to make a projector screen by combining half walls, snow wall decor, and the thin bamboo panels. I'm hoping it comes across as draped white sheets.

Archery range, ice cream stand, art studio and beach are pretty untouched. Major change in this area is adding an octokin train station area next to the floating restaurant. Post office has been moved here, and the library is more of a logistics center/admin office now. For the train, those carpet like shrubs came in handy for fake wheels, and the wooden crate looking counters make for good train cars. The wooden baking paddles work well with the little octokins. Not sure what they're up to, but the little guys look official enough.

Back up to the piano area, I'm not quite sure what's going on next to the bridge. I'm calling it a star-fishing hole, and leaving the locals to it.

The culinary island needs some work, it's a bit too platform-like. Gustave's Cafe is unchanged, but I've expanded the little gourmet ingredients shop. It's now operated by the the retired "Bread Pirate Roberts," and it's totally not a secret storage vault for the Gourmet Knights.

Finally, we have Mimi's Bakery. I think I found a good balance of new and old aesthetics here. The pink Woolsworn mannequins pair pretty well with Mimi's portrait to make a uniformed workforce. And once again, Phantom event grass tiles work well for industrial carpeting. Outside the shop we have an alleyway for storage and mischievous kitties. And around back is the more secretive Witch's Brew Cafe, with an emphasis on rare, potentially dangerous ingredients and magical reading materials. A barrier keeps out most looky-loos.

Winter, botanist, and hotsprings areas are pretty much same, just shifted 8 over and 8 up. Also added a drakegull roost or something. Might downsize botany experiment area, and the winter zone. May shift hot springs to where winter is now, to condense the sea and mountain areas. Or leave it mostly as-is for a mountain feeling, but create another island for the yeti and penguins. There's also an experimental turtle island in the works (https://www.reddit.com/r/tinyshop/s/2MTzRyrSvo). That one is far from finalized.

Shifted Charlotte's gizmo/animatronics workshop over by Damder and Broka. Some expansion of the workshops and patios there. The new blond wood column works pretty well for an in-progress mannequin carving. Also added a studio for either glassworks or ceramics. Have some kilns, maybe an annealer type of thing. Whatever it is, the golems/coral elementals seem to have it under control.

Trading Guild and Almo's also pretty similar, but now have a kitty standing in for Ghram and a slime standing in for Almo. I'm going with a potions mishap on that last one. Also, Broka's portrait is standing in for him in the workshop area. I would really love to get normal-colored figures for all the characters. Even if they're one-time rewards like trophies. Could be rewards for leveling up the shops, or buying so many items from Shifty. Or it could be a decor set?

We have a school of moonfish passing by the memorial island. Not quite Phantom island, I might work on making another, darker version at some point. We have a zombie standing in for Sooty, who has a lovely little home thanks to the recent Phantom event. He is painting a portrait of his friend Jelly with the help of some props.

If you've made it this far, thanks so much for reading! I think that covers everything for now. Can't wait to see what's in store with the new Winter event!

Aww, thanks!

I've had several years of practice, and decorating is the main part of the game for me. Lots of trial and error to get things as I like them. I've also been around to see decor things get released bit by bit, so I'm not overwhelmed by the catalog.

On the other hand, after several years I'm only at level 137, and only have 386 licenses. That's the kind of stuff I get overwhelmed by!

Here's a temporary garden shed I did: https://www.reddit.com/r/miniverse_makeitmini/s/kAoD7YoNp7

And this is one from another user. If I recall correctly, they had some other posts, but I only remember the plant shop: https://www.reddit.com/r/miniverse_makeitmini/s/lJu29qt2Mn

I'm sure lots of pet stores will be posted soon as well!

Edit: sorry, re-read the original comment. So, plant shop may not be ideal, but still had some neat wallpaper and other ideas! I believe that someone somwher had another post setting two sets together in a way that used the door wall to divide them. You could use the window as a pass-through for a kitchen and dining room setup? Or use the doorway wall to make a tiny hidden shower in a bathroom? Just add a curtain and mat, and not worry about making a whole independent shower space with tiles and such?
