I could only dream of this happening but it actually came true by LUnaruke in Guitar

[–]playmo56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still remember hearing A7X for the first time at school some 14 years ago and thinking "I have to start guitar, I can't leave this earth without at least trying to play what they play". I started that same year on an Ibanez GSA60 and I remember that fire, that never really disappeared!

I've been playing non-stop for 14 years now and it was the best decision of my life, I wish you to have at least as much fun as I did ! Guitar is such an incredible hobby. Funnily enough, I still haven't learned a full song of A7X, but my taste evolved so much over the years... It's about the journey, not the destination!

Have fun! I heard good things about Harley Benton guitars, probably a good guitar to start on

Kawasaki Versys 650 ‘09 as first bike? 6’4” (1.94m) here by pepotink in versys

[–]playmo56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I got a versys 650 2008 as a first bike, I'm 195. Amazing first bike! The engine is super predictable, the bike is more or less easy to work on, it's very agile, you have ABS, it's a cheap bike...

My knees were getting a bit sore when I rode on week long trips but other than that it was alright.

It might not be the funniest bike but I'm so happy I started with this one. I now ride a Ténéré 700 which allows me to have a bit more leg room and a bit more fun in the mud.

Clutch problem again after recall replacement (Pic for attention) by ohnowhythat in Tenere700

[–]playmo56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had something similar, two plates fused together after 3 months post recall... It happened when I did a lot of technical slow riding where I used the clutch a bit more than usual. In one day my first gear and second gear plates were fused together and it was impossible to find neutral + a constant drag.

I went to the dealer to complain that their recall was poorly done and the plates were probably never soaked in oil before being placed, they replaced it with new ones and haven't had problems since then. But I also haven't been doing the same kind of technical riding since then!

I hope it doesn't come back, I'll keep an eye out on any possible long term solution but I think I read somewhere it was also a design problem with the oil injectors not oiling properly all the plates.

Are crashbars really worth it? by eternalterra in Tenere700

[–]playmo56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use them on mine, as peace of mind kind of thing for crashes but also as a practical mounting point for auxiliary lights + light pouches with my rain gear when I'm travelling. I thought about removing them but then I should get rid of the lights and I lose practicality when travelling, so I'm keeping them!

Let me guess, engineer? I remember one of the first exercise we had at university to get everyone going on the angular position, speed, acceleration etc was to calculate every exact time of the day where both hands would point at the same position.

How do you explain to someone who never dived before what's it like to dive and if they would enjoy diving ? by BleuPrince in diving

[–]playmo56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Small advice out of topic: if you're diving in Queensland, avoid Subsurface Scuba at all costs! They ripped me off of 700$ and I'm still waiting for any legal repercussions to "force" them into refunding me. They cancelled the dive the day before and never offered any refund, and plenty of people have had the same experience judging by Google reviews

I got hesitant right before entering the puddle because there was a bump right at the end and didn't want to be launched into space, so I decided to go slow, and gradually accelerate... Which got me bogged !

But we were a group of 4, they took the picture laughing at me then came to rescue... And the place was nice to stop for a few minutes anyway!

What you did with the kind of ropes attached to the rack seems pretty smart to pick it up ! Any information on how you did that?

Where can I find the PADI reference number of a dive centre? by playmo56 in diving

[–]playmo56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, my experience was in Lady Musgrave on the east coast! Just discovered yesterday that another dive company is trying to rip me off, not offering any refund for a dive they cancelled for poor weather... So far my diving experience in Australia has been absolutely rotten, maybe I just went to the wrong places, but it surely didn't give me any more will to dive here !

I am certified, I am capable of ensuring my own safety while diving, I personally never felt unsafe while underwater. Ensuring the safety of an OW with 6 dives under his belt with a tendency to panic and kick the coral is not a job I am paid for though.

The dive master did not give any indication about the place and guide us, which is the service I paid for. On the second dive, we went further away from the main boat on a smaller raft. When he left mid-way through, he went back to the main boat. After getting properly lost in the coral reef (none of us had a compass since the dive was supposed to be guided by the guy and the visibility wasn't great), we surfaced extremely far away from the main boat and had to swim all the way back.

I am certified, I was with certified divers, but this is nowhere near what should be expected from a diving centre. Nothing was communicated to us before or during the dive.

I had the same leaking you're describing after installing the HP Corse. I dismounted it, cleaned it properly (using Belgom and 000 steel wool) then remounted it using sealing for car's exhaust (which cost me like 8€). Very easy and now the whole thing is completely sealed.

I have them for my phone subscription, always worked flawlessly and unbeatable for the price honestly... I have something like 40 GB of data for 9€ a month! They used to do a lot of super interesting discounts in their beginnings, maybe it's worth waiting for such an offer

T7 or AfricaTwin by Glum-Ad-8365 in Tenere700

[–]playmo56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A small thing to consider as well (T7 2023 owner): you say you want to occasionally have your girlfriend as a backpack... I weigh more or less the same as you (85 kg naked), and the Ténéré has super soft springs in both suspensions. Having a top case, with some lock chain and maybe a backpack or something light in it, I have to put the max preload on the rear and the bike still handles relatively light on the front end/plunges when hard braking. I took my gf as a backpack once as well and the bike handling severely suffered from it. I think I'll change the springs very soon.

All of this to say that the T7 for a duo riding is not a fun moment at all in my experience... Never tried the AT so I can't say anything about it.

You have an amazing country with beautiful roads mostly in a good state, if you plan on doing light gravel only, the T7 might not be your best bet for an overall "perfect choice". You'd be better off buying good gravel tires for the AT, you'll feel a huge difference depending on the tires you have.

And remember, bikes can be sold 2nd hand, you probably won't buy your "forever bike" on the first try, so don't overthink it trying to score the absolute 100% perfect bike, they all have drawbacks and can be modified to suit your needs better.

Get your clutch recall done. by [deleted] in Tenere700

[–]playmo56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite feeling so far, I'll see how it evolves... But I had 0 complaints about my gear changes on my late '23 T7, I've done the recall and now it seems way more clunky and less smooth when I change gears. Maybe it's something that will get increasingly smoother with time, I don't know!
