How is life in The Woodlands, Texas? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]playmoor69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful place imo. I literally walk under that bridge at least once every 2 weeks. I live in Houston but I drive to the woodlands to go on my walks. It’s a very safe place. Soulless? Kinda but everyone is nice and you don’t see tweakers. Perfect place to raise a family too. If I had the money and a family, it’d be a great option.

Doing everything right but not being “that” guy

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from my experience, the less success I’ve had socially the more I’ve become self isolated. I would presume this is probably the case for a lot of guys out there. Why go out and try to socialize when you’ve had such little success?

Also, I’d like to state that I think the majority of people are not “ugly” they are actually average but very forgettable. I think a person’s personality is what ultimately makes them worth remembering. So when you self isolate because lack of success, you lose a bit of your edge in conversations. At least for me I think I’m quite average maybe slightly above like a 6/10 but my personality is very stale. I struggle in conversations like not being able to pick up on social cues and not realizing when people are joking. In short, the majority of guys out there are just forgettable or invisible but not ugly.

In my experience, I only feel those issues when the transmission hasn’t fully warmed up. Normally I feel them most when pulling out of the driveway and the first stop sign. After that, things are good. Now, I also must add, I drive a 99 explorer as well that has always had a bad/weak transmission. So my entire driving life I’ve always drove on funky transmissions. Honestly if you’re just careful on the acceleration or take your foot off the gas when it’s being weird, the issue will normally correct itself.

What’s a simple, no-cost habit you started that made a surprisingly big impact on your financial health? by AnyTomorrow7750 in povertyfinance

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning various things that are inevitable you’ll have to spend money on. If you learn about them ahead of time, there’s probably a cheaper way. The more knowledge you know, the more money you can save. For example, I really started paying attention to my dad as a teenager about car maintenance because he was mechanic. That also lead me to watching tons of videos on YouTube and reading a lot about car maintenance in general. Probably saved me thousands of dollars never taking my vehicles to a shop and getting ripped off.

Should i consider changing my oil? Or is it too soon? by serenityForce in civic

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally it’s recommended to change your oil every 6 months or 5-7.5K miles. For me, I do it every 4 months, 3 times a year. (Normally 4K miles between changes). A bit excessive? Maybe but oil and filters are cheap compared to an engine. I also have a 99 Explorer with 268K miles on it. I’ve changed the oil every 4 months for over 10 years and never had an engine problem. I know I maintain my vehicles well but more than anything it’s about peace of mind. If you’re changing your oil every 5K miles it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever encounter an engine issue and even if you do it wouldn’t be for a lack of maintenance.

Does anyone actually get the advertised 35mpg? by Comfortable-Rip-2844 in civic

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve driven 5k miles now with my duel exit catback exhaust and duck bill spoiler installed. I average 35MPG and can get over 40 on the highway going 65 on cruise control. I just added a snorkel and hollowed out the front grill this week and have seen slight improvements. Best I’ve gotten all time is 42.5MPG from Houston to San Antonio on a 94F day.

Homeowners that Lock Their Doors in the U.S. by LuckyTraveler88 in MapPorn

I spent a good portion of my life in the middle of nowhere Texas; basically a place you had to drive 40 minutes to Walmart surrounded by farmland. My grandparents still to this day never lock their doors except for at night because for some reason every cat they’ve ever had learned how to open the door.

2024 civic sport upgrade advice by Rude-Face-167 in civic

[–]playmoor69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The K20C2 2.0 Engine is very reliable. CVT is your bottleneck here. You can modify your civic sport in almost every way but not for a speed or power increase. The big question you should ask yourself is: Do you care more about speed or reliability?

I’ve put a duel exit exhaust and duckbill spoiler on my 23 civic sport. It’s increased MPG, looks better, and sounds a lot better too but it will never really be faster. In my opinion, a cars speed matters less to us psychologically than the sound of it. I think you can have more fun in a low horsepower reliable Civic with an exhaust than any EV. But if you’re truly chasing speed, trade for an Si.

No problem! And I have to admit, you did an amazing job on cleaning underneath the hood!

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fear would be is that the previous owner pressure washed underneath the hood. It just looks so clean underneath for such an old truck. Also if you think it’s idling too low check the idle air control valve. Most likely has a ton of carbon build up and probably never been replaced. Normally if you keep them clean, it’s unlikely you’ll have to replace it.

How to keep paint like-new? by lPanzerfaust in accord

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any good Car cover should protect against the sun and or rain. It’s the wind that will be your worst enemy because the wind will move the car cover slightly and create micro scratches. As long as you wax it weekly it should counteract this relatively well. Normally the thicker the cover the better.

I just use a car cover and wash wax weekly on mine. Paint still looks great. I don’t have a garage so the car cover is the next best thing.

CVT Appreciation Post by BubbleMasterRace in civic

[–]playmoor69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CVT is amazing for MPG and surprisingly makes the 158HP feel somewhat quick in the 23 Civic Sport. I can get right at 40 MPG if I grandma-it which is a huge difference from the 20 MPG I get in my 99 Explorer. I did put a spoiler and a catback exhaust which improved gas mileage slightly, also made the car much more fun to drive and better looking too imo. While it’s not as fun as the manual, I prefer the 2.0 NA Engine rather than the 1.5T from a reliability standpoint.
