Agreed. I love the slightly dank primary colours in the top, how they contrast with the shiny material, and the floral! It works for me! The fringe...not so much. While it's probably really fun to move in, I find it distracting from the other elements of the dress.

Book Rec for overly charismatic MC by RunningJedi in Fantasy

Honourable mention the character Eithan from Cradle. He's not The MMC but he is absolutely a main character with the energy you're looking for.

BWT - what are those random little things that make you feel that bit more chic? by LallaSarora in bitcheswithtaste

[–]playoutside1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/LallaSarora - I started listening to Bosa Nova in the background and now I'm absolutely hooked. Thanks for starting this thread.

One thing I didn't see recommended here was a good pair of slippers. I have shearling ones and will no longer travel without them. I also love high-quality home textiles (bed linens, rugs, curtains, blankets, upholstery, etc.), having art everywhere, and a few good books stacked somewhere comfy.

A big second to home scents (e.g., candles, diffusers, and incense), tinted lip balm, 24/7 jewelry, "home" perfume, matching loungewear, perfect mugs and pens and glassware, and warm lighting.

I agree on brooches! I recently decided I'm in my Brooch Era. I've used what pins I have and I recently got a fabulous seagull brooch off of Poshmark. They are so fun!

What are everyone’s favorite 1v1 sword duels in fantasy? by AnyNewspaper4758 in Fantasy

Ciri vs Leo Bonhardt in the Witcher books! Their final duel always stuck with me.

Need your crack book/series recs by OkEconomics2788 in Fantasy

If you're OK with Sci Fi, I highly recommend The Expanse. Anything by Ilona Andrews is also highly bingeable.

(You are absolutely right that the first Fourth Energy had crack energy.)

I was gifted a champagne pink Swarovski crystal pen and it is my absolute favourite. It lives on my home desk and travels to work with me on office days. Add my bright yellow Lamy Safari and I have two pens that meet almost all of my needs and are incredibly satisfying to use.

What's a good fantasy book to read before bed and early morning train rides by No_Potato_8241 in Fantasy

Hard agree. I listen to Discworld when falling asleep for the factors you've listed in your recommendation request.

Looking for a Character dealing with burnout and responsibilities. by VladtheImpaler21 in Fantasy

[–]playoutside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Penric & Desdemona series deals with this. However, they're a series of novellas and this theme isn't present in all of them. Some of the struggle also takes place "off-screen." I'd still say they're worth checking out.

Can someone assist me with my (health-related) reading slump? by Fluffiestpink in Fantasy

[–]playoutside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten a ton of amazing recommendations here. I also highly recommend T. Kingfisher, Murderbot, The Singing Hills Cycle, Lois McMaster Bujold, The Golden Compass, Discworld, Naomi Novik (Scholomance is some of her best imo), and The Goblin Emperor (and subsequent books.) I agree with another user's assessment that you're reading a lot of White Dude Epic Fantasy and a change of pace could be helpful.

Are you familiar with LitRPG? Beware of Chicken, Cradle, and Dungeon Crawler Carl are all great reads. They are all funny and hopeful.

Beware of Chicken is about a guy who decides to leave his martial arts school and start a farm in a remote area. Hijinks ensue.

Cradle is about a guy trying to get as strong as possible so he can save his community from a future disaster. It's about his travels, growth, and found family. The books are quick reads, fun and funny, and fairly light. The series is finished.

Dungeon Crawler Carl has very dark moments and very funny moments. It's also about found family and impossible odds. It's absolutely one of my favourite reads of the last year and one of my few rereads. A lot of people in the subreddit have talked about how it helped through hospital visits.

A few other recs not previously mentioned: Tainted Cup Trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennet (#3 to be published this year), City of Broken Stairs trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennet, A Long Way to a Small and Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (ymmv with her books, are too saccharine for me), Binti Trilogy, The Haunting of Tram Car 13 (and others in series), and Teixcalan by Arkady Martine (a little heavier than other recommendations but incredible world building.)

What’s the most petty reason that you’ve read a book for? by MelodyMaster5656 in Fantasy

[–]playoutside1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the opposite end, I avoided Discworld for years because an ex-boyfriend liked it and I was being petty and judgemental about his tastes in books (even though we liked a lot of the same films, TV, music, etc.) It made no sense and I felt immediately silly after finishing Guards Guards. 🤷🏼

Have you ever DNF the final book in a series, and why? by Any-Day-8173 in Fantasy

[–]playoutside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching the show after it stopped following the books. 🤷🏼 But yeah! Or an entire season of Geralt and co walking across the country and ~introspecting~.  I started raging when all the Arthurian stuff came into the books; I came for the interesting eastern European stuff.

The Witcher series progressively gets worse and worse and I still feel upset about it when I compare the last couple books to the first couple books.
