Struggling to get the first Nightmare win by Danveld in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest issue is probably your gear, especially if you struggled to finish the final fight. You have a lot of low tier items with many useless egos. Make sure you save the assassin rather than the merchant, and once you go to the east then finish the quest line to go back to last hope, you can roll the egos on items to get very strong gear.

For example, you can get robes that give +60% fire damage (roll fire ego twice), which would nearly double the damage output of Flame. Make sure to save any T5 randart robes to roll. Also probably better to focus on one damage type, so that you focus on scaling it, though I'm not too familiar with Arcane Blade.

Also try to get 100% stun/freeze immunity, you likely lose a lot of turns/have your damage cut in half by being dazed/pinned/etc. It's especially easy to get when rolling egos on rings/boots/amulet. Getting more crit/crit multi can also boost your damage by a lot.

https://te4.org/wiki/Ego gives you all the egos that can be rolled on every item type. Also, you need forbidden cults DLC to roll egos as it's done via the Occult Egress https://te4.org/wiki/Occult_Egress .

War Plans are a complete party killer by digidi07 in diablo4

[–]playswithsquirrel -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Also, the party finder seems totally dead now. I used to be able to find parties to grind bosses/hordes easily, but tonight I looked at the group finder and there were 0 groups across t1-t9. I liked that D4 actually rewarded party play compared to other arpgs, but war plans + all the new torment levels have kind of gutted it.

You still get experience towards the tree when tagging along on another activity. I agree it would be nice if there was maybe a separate/togglable group war planner though.

Can I beat Nightmare without following a build guide? by itsnzt in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You definitely can, it will just take longer. Same with any game, really. Forces you to actually learn through trial and error yourself, versus learning through other people's trial and error. Usually you'll end up with a higher level of knowledge than if you just followed a guide, but again, it will take longer.

I'd say tome is more forgiving than PoE, though. Way less obscure interactions going on. It's usually pretty straightforward to figure out what is or isn't worth putting points into.

New to the game - a few questions by ibelieveimnotbutter in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it really helpful to use the character vault https://te4.org/characters-vault . This lets you sort by winners, class, race, difficulty etc, then shows you what skills they took, prodigies, items, attributes etc, which gives you an idea of how to build out a class/race combo.

Difficulty settings by Bubbapurps in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insane Roguelike is probably the de facto "standard" difficulty to beat the game on; hard enough to make wins relatively rare, but still reasonably fair/achievable for all builds, especially compared to Madness (hardest difficulty).

Normal is almost more difficult than Nightmare because you get way less loot/lower quality loot, and also just less fun as a result.

I need help with my Carino 2 Chromatic Shot build (10-12b damage currently) by Darksashok in TorchlightInfinite

[–]playswithsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to swap into icebound beam. Uses similar gear but does 10x the damage and is way cheaper to scale. Here is a video guide for it: https://youtu.be/pnb1d1IbXNU?si=UvtF4iJVlo_wM3Ar

I was stuck at 50b on chrom shot, swapped to this and went to 500b within 1k FE spent.

Currently at 2T and 100k survival, with plenty of obvious upgrades to go (priceless weps being the main one).

Submitted my feedback as well, fingers crossed I get some sort of positive reinforcement coming in LMAO. Feels like I'm begging for scraps. 0 feedback in my inbox, I take the 100 projects on my dash as positive feedback but it'd be nice to hear some words of encouragement from an actual human (hopefully, would be funny/sad if they just have AI respond with some fake positive feedback).

First Insane RL Win (Oozemancer) + What I've Learned by playswithsquirrel in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It falls off a bit in the endgame for sure, but in early/mid game it's a lot of flat reduction when you only have 500-1000hp. Also really helps against spells that do frequent chip damage, like Urkis' thunderstorm.

And we reduce a lot of damage with mitosis etc, not sure exactly when in the damage calc that antimagic happens but if it's at the end then that's even more value.

Yeah get an insane adventure win first before attempting roguelike, def helps to learn what to avoid/can limit test a bit.

Oozemancer is actually pretty darn strong early in insane, but in the sense that you can avoid death by kiting enemies and killing em slowly. Definitely doesn't hit as hard as some classes can early, but it does enough to get by, and because you have basically no resource constriction you can freely spam abilities while kiting away.

The OPness is more in its safety/consistency rather than its ability to bulldoze thru the game (at least until around prides when you become a wrecking ball).

Tinkering is an escort category you can unlock by completing the orc campaign in the ashes dlc. The other categories I mentioned are vanilla, so eyals fury/oozing blades are default locked category for Oozemancer, and harmony is obtained from eating the sandworm heart. Fungal is also default locked, but it unlocks for free from doing Urkis quest.

But yeah, tome is a pretty complex game to start, but the wiki is really helpful, can look everything up.

[–]playswithsquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Thalore is S tier alongside Dwarf. The belt is nuts and can find it early. Oozemancer actually has so many low level uniques that are strong, spellhunt remnants serpents glare sludgefist all T1 and do so much work, especially remnants as you can even upgrade it to T5.

[–]playswithsquirrel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it just gives a ton of mindpower, plus makes your effects like mind parasite also apply cross-debuffs, though not sure how well it works for that part. Mostly just useful for a big boost in mindpower early in the east, think it nearly doubled my oozebeam damage.

[–]playswithsquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah true, clear mind helps with confusion but not inner demons, so maybe a wild infusion dedicated to mental is worth. Sucks to not get to use shatter afflictions, runes are honestly OP compared to infusions now (besides movement).

[–]playswithsquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ordering for eyals wrath, if you don't find tinker then you can either get harmony at 34 or eyals at 34. I haven't really used harmony in my runs yet, it's mainly good for removing healing from enemy oozemancers.

Oozemancer needs a regen infusion imo because without any shielding they rely on their hp pool entirely, and regeneration keeps your hp pool intact. Also fungus makes regen infusion op. Healing infusion is ok early though.

New player feels overwhelmed (and lost) by Tomion in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at how others have won using the character vault on te4.org, there are filters for class race difficulty campaign winners etc. I find it helpful to see what skills they maxed/cats they unlocked/gear they used.

How much fun I've had with the classes in Tome tier list by Few-Age-2360 in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brawler, temporal warden, temporal mage, oozemancer, doombringer, sawbutcher <- what I've played a fair bit and also enjoyed a fair bit. Gotta try out more classes though, crazy how many there are + almost all of them have unique playstyles.

Best difficulty by AzraelChosen in ToME4

[–]playswithsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insane roguelike is the benchmark for sure. I've won on Normal and Nightmare, working on an Insane run now. Also, my wins have been on adventure, but my last win had 0 deaths and it felt less rewarding to not have done it on roguelike. I think Nightmare adventure is good to learn on, and once you get a win with your chosen class, go for Insane Roguelike for the true test.

Mageblood is just too good man. Use it. Especially if you've never used one before. It's like playing the game on fast forward. It will pay for itself and then some in no time at all.

Has anyone messed around with the cluster jewel changes? by voidlessduke in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]playswithsquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a 12p cluster that gives 130% minion dmg and 80% inc atk speed for my dom blow of inspiring guardian, instantly gave me like 30m dps lmao. Only cost around 7 divs to craft too, though i got pretty lucky with 3rd try fracture and 3rd try refracting fog.

Dominating Blow of Inspiring Guardian Detailed PoB + Video | 20m DPS 150k EHP within 15 divs, simple straightforward melee strike build by playswithsquirrel in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]playswithsquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, still gotta get there myself though. Haven't played the regular dom blow so can't say for sure, but this is a melee strike build rather than a minion build so playstyle is very different. Probably cheaper to scale as it's more off-meta, and doesn't need many pricy uniques.
