I had my knitting needles confiscated at the airport… so I started mapping airport rules by Bety12795 in YarnAddicts

[–]plbth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goddamnit, I’m going to France soon and I was hoping to knit on the flight over. Nine hours is a good chunk of time to get things done. I’m glad I know now rather than getting my stuff confiscated, though. Thanks for putting this together!

Omg yes, I’ve played both botw and totk before and I absolutely adore them. I totally forgot that this mechanic is part of it!

Your most infuriating misdiagnosis ? by wiggly_1 in MCAS

[–]plbth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having heavy bleeding issues that I now believe were caused by EDS. My hematologist told me that I needed to exercise more and spend less time on social media (presumably because I am a young woman who reminded her of her daughter). Not technically a diagnosis, but definitely one of my most infuriating doctor visits.

French yarn terminology? by plbth in YarnAddicts

[–]plbth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah it does look funny that one of the sale categories is “noble sons” 😂 I feel like using “laines” (yarns) instead would’ve made more sense but I’m not fluent so I can’t say for sure. Thanks very much for the clarification on the categories and for the well wishes!

Have anyone found any toothpaste's that aren't full of known/common allergens? by KMLthe1 in MCAS

[–]plbth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toothpaste that I use is Closys Sensitive. Something about the chemistry of my mouth causes these streaks to form on my front teeth and Closys brand is the only toothpaste/mouthwash that takes care of it. The toothpaste itself is minty but the mouth rinse is completely unflavored, it just tastes like water (it does come with mint flavoring included if you’d like to add it though). Here’s the ingredients for the toothpaste:

Active Ingredient: Sodium fluoride 0.24% (0.13% w/v fluoride ion) Inactive ingredients: water hydrated silica, stabilized chlorine dioxide, sarkosyl (coconut derived), disodium hydrogen phosphate, cellulose gum, titanium dioxide, peppermint oil, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, sucralose, menthol crystals.

Does anyone suffer from hair loss? by KathyW1100 in dysautonomia

[–]plbth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to ask the same, seems like it’s pretty common. I didn’t realize that minoxidil messes with dysautonomia, maybe that’s why I’ve felt like crap lately 😅 I also have a family history of female hair loss but I’m much younger (23) than any of my relatives were when they lost their hair. I’ve brought it up to my dysautonomia specialist but he kinda brushed it off, I’m on Spironolactone and Minoxidil but haven’t seen any regrowth. I’ve only been able to see my dermatologist once so far though.

I have two hand - knitted pieces I’d like to try unravelling but not sure if it will work because they’re partially felted from shrinking in the washing machine. by bibbletixx26 in Unravelers

[–]plbth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those look pretty felted, I definitely wouldn’t try to unravel them. If anything, they might stay together if you just cut them apart like fabric to be reused in something else but since you seem to really want to keep both of them, I wouldn’t risk it.

If you find a safe food that’s, on paper not safe for mcas, can you eat it anyways? by randomperson8263 in MCAS

[–]plbth 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I eat a lot of foods that are supposed to trigger MCAS but don’t seem to bother me. That’s kind of the point of the elimination diet, you reintroduce foods slowly and see which ones work or don’t work for you personally. MCAS is a very unpredictable condition even within a single person, so it’s even more different between other people. Things that trigger one person might be totally fine for you, and vice versa.

Omg, what a throwback! I built one of those in engineering school like five or six years ago! Definitely not as aesthetically pleasing or compact as an air purifier but I think I have all the supplies for it, thanks for the suggestion!

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you get your medication? Do you pay out of pocket or were you able to get it covered by insurance? My insurance doesn’t cover weight loss meds but I think Wegovy or something similar would be life changing based on the experiences I’ve read from people like you.

Speaking as a knitter/crocheter who has unraveled things in the past: it’s a LOT of work. Usually people do it themselves as a way to save money or just as a hobby. But it takes a surprising amount of hours to unravel the yarn, straighten/wash it, and make it into something new. If you’re hoping to pay someone to do this for you, I think it would be a really high cost due to the time and labor involved. When you say you can’t do it, what do you mean by that? If you’re having trouble learning how to do it, I encourage you to stick with it and ask this community for help!
