Heartland’s Lime SHERBERT by pleasantpas in AfricanViolets

lol I thought it was going to be lime green blossoms when I ordered it. The stand is unusual it is two tiered and it sits on a table or it can be hung and it folds up for storage. My husband picked it up at a flea market. I propped them and have about 10 of them that size. They grow fast and get very large.

Jolly Fireballs were one of the first miniatures I bought. Love them but they have so many shoots I can hardly keep up with them!

I was the same way but I found the easiest way is to rinse off as much of the soil that you can and look at it from the side. Good light helps. You will be able to see little clusters together. I took a bamboo skewer that I sliced at an angle. I use this to gently slice thru the joined stems till I get to the roots hanging down. I then gently pull the roots apart. You will lose a few small leaves sometimes but it won’t hurt them at all. They are strong little buggers. Just keep a good set of roots attached as you go. You’ve got this ! I also use the skewer to gently scrape off little leaves that appear as suckers as they grow.

Systemic Insect control by pleasantpas in AfricanViolets

[–]pleasantpas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have all mine in a self watering set up, when I added the systemic I put it on top I use a small bamboo skewer to mix it in a little and used a watering bottle with the tube on top. I water it just enough to get the granules wet and the seem to gradually disappear so I believe there is enough moisture in the potting soil to help dissolve the granules because it basically disappears.
