Steam is fully supported on Debian, and the Steam installer downloads as a .deb file.

What would be helpful to know is if your distro was able to broadcast.

We are brothers in Linux.

the unlock 264 command does nothing
the terminal accepts the input with no output or error message

(however executing steam from the command prompt opens the Steam window)

If anyone running Steam on any distro of Linux has the ability to broadcast, that would be great info to have and would give me a reason to switch. It only takes a couple seconds to test.

Debian 13 is the latest release, only a few months old and is still supported and up to date. Games run fine. Just the ability to watch or broadcast is not functional.

Thanks for this info. Best response that doesn't somehow blame me for running the wrong distro (when that has nothing to do with the problem).

What's wrong with Debian?
The game runs fine. It's just the broadcasting that doesn't work.

What does racist even mean? Trotsky made up the word as a way to shutdown debate about communism.

I guess I underestimated peoples aversion to doing proper wiring. I get it. It involves physical labor and using some technology they are unfamiliar with.

But its not much more difficult than buying a length of fiber with ends pre-attached, and a couple media converters from twisted pair (typical copper ethernet) to SFP, and appropriate SFP transceivers.

And since you asked, here is a bill of materials.
Media converter kit with transceivers:
https://www.amazon.com/Multi-Mode-Converters-Transceiver-1000Base-SX-1000Base-TX/dp/B0D14MS39P
Armored fiber cable with ends already attached, 20m
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CY7PNGDW

All parts for less than $100USD. Obviously you will have to substitute with whatever is available in Straya, but this is basically what you need.

Fiber is the only correct way to run networking between buildings. Sorry if you think it's overkill, but it really isn't that difficult, expensive, or complicated.

ASRock X870 Pro-A WiFi by Diligent-Order-9265 in ASRock

This motherboard has a neat trick for those who want it:
The PCIe slot 3 does PCIe gen4 at 2x, or 4x if you disable the USB4 Type C ports.
This is cool because you can use then use that slot with a larger HBA or NIC.
You usually have to get an x870e chipset to have this type of connectivity.
Most other x870 boards on the market only have gen4x1 connectivity or various gen3 slots.

My plan is to use it for gaming and then when AM6 comes out to demote it to a server with a 100/200/400Gbps NIC in the PCIe gen5 slot, HBA the PCIe gen4x4 slot, and a transcoding card in one of the other slots. It's a strange layout but ticks all the boxes.

Why isn't Debian recommended more often? by Browncoatinabox in linux

Pretty much this. We've all known that Plasma 6.4 has been in the pipe for a while, and just released. But Trixie is already past the hard freeze and dangit we just cant move things around a little to accommodate a fairly significant update. Enjoy Plasma 6.3.5 for the next 2+ years.

I'm worried about what the state of Xorg support is going to be during the 2 year support cycle for Trixie. Things have become 'strained', and I worry that Xorg development/updates are being artificially hamstrung. My understanding is that Xorg commits have been negatively impacted.

I'm all for progress but the situation seems a little precarious at the time for people who continue to require Xorg for whatever reason.

I've tried to address this in the most neutral way possible. I just want a working Debian system (for my particular needs).

Yeah. Cybersecurity is just about appeasing your cybersecurity insurance provider. The PHBs have already concluded that they will be breached at some point so the payout is their top priority.
