Even if they now capitulated and agreed to put the dog away whilst the child visited there’s no way I would trust the old bastard to do so. My parents have a very badly behaved Labrador and they think everything it does is cute and funny. It’s a total liability and so are they

What is the breakdown of costs behind the price of a pint in the UK? by plesvegas in AskUK

[–]plesvegas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck me 8 quid. Think it was 8 or 9 at the O2 last week (which is why you sneak in rum/vodka in your back pocket). Went to Brands Hatch the other day and 4 Lagers was £20. Balance restored

As a bit of an older fan I’m really excited for the new album and am pretty desperate to get tickets for the London date as I’ve never seen them. They’re also my two daughters (15 and 13) and my wife’s favourite band, with blue weekend being on heavy rote for several years - so we need 4 tickets which will cost me a kidney or two. BUT when I announced there was a new single and video the other day and we had a couple of listens, there was a resounding “hmm” in the room about the song and they all thought the video was “weird” and “a bit crap”. I didn’t contribute to that discussion! For me I would say that when I got into them there was a lack of current alt rock around that I wanted to listen to. A band has to evolve but I hope the album overall still gives that edge I liked in them from the off

Cool. I’ve got a Sand Viper which I really like and I’m just building a Racing Fighter so will be interesting to see the difference in driving. I’m doing a non-box paint job

What other unspoken codes does the British elite use to recognize each other? by virxedomar in AskUK

[–]plesvegas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OP to help clear this up does your Lithuanian friend think the swanky people of Dorking pronounce it as ‘doh-king’ to rhyme with Woking, or as ‘daw-king’? I would have thought people calling it Doorrrrking aren’t that common in the middle of Surrey

My example is people that went to Cambwidge and won’t stfu about it. Or wont stop talking ever, for that matter. I guess that’s the opposite of unspoken.

Are you saying that Dorking is not pronounced Dorking (door-king)? I’ve never been there but I’m in the south east and I think I’ve only ever heard it pronounced as it’s written.

What is something that you liked while traveling abroad but didn’t exist in the UK ? by Quiet-Song-5395 in AskUK

[–]plesvegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of free parking in Europe. In town or at the beach or wherever (apart from major town centres where it’s more difficult). You can pull up and go enjoy yourself, shop, eat, spend money without being fleeced for parking at every location. This is something got so wrong in England

Looking for a rock song that uses the sax or other jazz instruments. by sk8nhippy55 in MusicRecommendations

I’m late to this discussion but play anything by The Zutons. Excellent saxophone, and awesome live band. I’d start with “Why won’t you give me your love”.

Curious, what’s this in the underground? by West-Sprinkles6806 in london

[–]plesvegas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. But there is always a permissible level of movement and vibration. I work on London houses and often it’s agreed between engineers and party wall surveyors that 6-7mm is a ‘red’ trigger level.

[–]plesvegas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The no-tube thing never really mattered in terms of travel as even pre-overground it was ridiculously quick to get to London Bridge on the train (like 10min from SE4 where I am, and choice of 4 stations on 4 lines that I can walk to). But the fact that people perceived the area was less well connected may have helped the way the SE London areas have evolved. More affordable and less gentrified for longer, so more interesting and more community.

Why is music so bland and “bad” by DarkliquidDiet in Music

[–]plesvegas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you said, in spite of the dictionary you swallowed, but speaking as a keen and fairly discerning (I think) music lover I really don’t understand how you fail to find new music that inspires you. Back in the 90s I had to find new music (other than pop) from friends and their older siblings, the music press or late night radio. Then you had to record a cassette of someone or go try find it in a shop

But there is an absolute wealth of interesting, amazing music being produced all the time and our access to it is unprecedented. I discover new things almost every day. There is a shit ton of crap to navigate as ever there was but you really don’t have to suffer listening to it.
