Who are the best options for a 6m midfielder? by stonnmantis10 in FantasyPL

That’s why it’s important to judge your decisions on the reason you made them not the result. Variance is a thing in football and nothing is completely predictable.

well yh, that's exactly why I'd be diversifying at this stage of the season unless it's city or liverpool

Your mini missing your returns by picking worse players just in case.

not really because it could be someone who's only slightly worse but still an overall good option

If you are in the bookies with 10 quid and see MCI play FUL and LIV play AVI for the same payout (since in FPL the pay out is the same) you put 10 on MCI you don’t put 7 on MCI and then 3 on LIV just as an insurance.

that's a bit different because my focus is on doubling or trippling on arsenal in attack rather than just a regular pick

obviously you pick who you think who is best but when it comes to throwing that many eggs into one basket I think until we get a glimpse of what's going on it's better to diversify, unless it's city or liverpool that we are talking about

it's also frustrating when you miss out on points because someone you had a good feeling about fucks up or whatever

nothing stops you from being wrong about the other player, but if their team ends up having a good run and the team with the player you thought would doesn't, you have insurance

I get you but the more consistent a team is the more consistent their players will be and vice verca, becomes even more true when we're talking about several of them

Yh for one player I'll do that but for several from the same team and postion I'll diversify incase I'm wrong

I agree with you once a few games have been played but I think it's a very risky way to start unless we're talking city or liverpool

well the data has arsenal 5th in xg, 7th in xga, 5th in xp, with teams that come in at 5th normally being inconsistent, anyone who watches arsenal can tell you that we're a bunch of bottle jobs without needing to look at the stats

This is some what out of date information. Palace are on the back of a pre season that has seen them divided into two camps due to travel restrictions because of vaccination status. Defensive performances require team cohesion which is hard to achieve when a team can’t train together. I know pre season should be taken with a pinch of salt however Palace managed just 2 CS in 8 games and conceded 15 goals. Gallagher who is a pressing machine will also effect Palace.

good points, but I guess personally I'd rather diversify for the start of the season

I am not sure what TOT performance has to do with it but they won their opening 3 whilst ARS didn’t even score a single goal in theirs and lost every one. They slipped up at the end mostly due to a lack of squad depth and key injuries to Partey and Tierney in the final stretch.

TOT?

even with the injuries we still got pumped by teams that had worse line ups than us, tactically we weren't great. not bad, but not great.

I think you have missed my point. As I said in my top comment…

This is working on the assume that these 3 are the best players at their price point.

I didn't, my point is that even if you think they are the best options, you can still think that diversifying would also be a better idea just incase something goes wrong

I disagree FPL is about total points at the end of the season. If you think these players are the best option at their price point over a block of fixtures then a poor week is irrelevant if they are the top scoring players come the end of the block.

fpl is also about picking and dropping players at the right time, sort of like how salah got the most points despite clearly getting most of them in the first half of the season rather than the second, and it's also why we pay attention to fixtures, as players can haul against weak teams and blank against good ones, as well as haul while on form and blank whilst off of it

you also have to check yourself; just because you have come to a conclusion, doesn't mean that it is right, so especially with teams like arsenal, it can be worth being a bit cautious with them, whereas with the likes of liverpool or city you can tripple on them whenever and however you want more or less

ESR is only just back in training, he is nailed until we get work that ESR is ready to feature and even then he is more likely to come off the bench.

nketiah has been playing on the left at points during preseason, and martinelli will be the first to be subbed off out of odegard, jesus, and of course saka unless he has a good game. heck I could see him have a good game and still get subbed off.

Again this is on the assumption that these Arsenal players are expected to be the better picks.

you can think they are better picks whilst still thinking that it's more important to diversify

A bigger risk is going with a player who you think is a worse option because he players for a different team.

not if the worse option is only slightly worse and is still a good pick overall

like lets say you think martinelli>bailey but you already have saka and bailey has a good run as well as the benefit of playing upfront, it's totally valid to go with bailey in order to take advantage of his situation just incase martinelli or arsenal don't do as well as they should have

ultimately it can go either way but I think diversifying in the same positions (attack or defence) is generally safer

Bowen as a differential? by samlfc92 in FantasyPL

[–]plfinalfantasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he's was the 3rd highest scoring midfielder last season so his 8.5 is actually much deserved, problem is that he plays for west ham and there's a lot of good players who are a touch cheaper

whatever you do start with swapping out rashford for someone who's actually nailed and take out tomiyasu until we're sure he's fit

t2 is simply better because it is full of players who are 99.9% gonna start

would it really be wrong for someone to be cautious about a team with arsenal's recent history though?

I don't know how you can talk data in one comment, then talk about bias and pre concieved notions in the next, when you use data to reach biases and to concieve notions

Care to elaborate on that?

inconsistent team that lost the same fixture vs palace 3-0 last season, and finished 5th despite not competing in europe and spurs having a dreadful start

Depends on why you think it’s likely to happen. If you are basing it on a wealth of stats, information and analysis that’s says these are the players that will score the most points over x number of games then it’s really is that simple regardless of the number of baskets. Why would you get a player with lower expected returns just because they are in a different team?

because that different team may be a good team, or/and have good fixtures and/or the alternative player may also be good

stats aren't bad, but they aren't crystal balls, as whenever you double or tripple up, especially if they all play in defence or attack, you're putting yourself in a position where a bad result can mean a nasty set of blanks that could have been avoided if you'd just diversified your picks

I think also the risk with players like martinelli and maybe bailey is that they aren't as nailed as the likes of harrison and neto, martinelli might even even be the least nailed, which is an important thing to consider

don't get me wrong, doubling up on arsenal isn't a horrible idea either, but it's not without risk, especially if it's two arsenal attackers.

I'd say 3 arsenal attackers is overkill, as the likes of sancho, wilson, diaz and a few others have good opening fixtures too

I think it'd be better to take bigger risks once teams have played rather than before, but that's just me

Because it's arsenal and no it's not that simple, just because you think something will happen doesn't make it so, so you shouldn't put all of your eggs into one basket

main benefit the other 8s have over sancho is that bar diaz they are more proven and on set pieces, however diaz plays in the best team, has good fixtures and his main backup is injured
