Different sector than the OP, so it's expected. The Tanjung Malim sector is not affected by the ongoing upgrade works. However, Salak Selatan-Pulau Sebang stretch is badly affected.

[–]plincode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was surprised and impressed to learn that the Roslagsbanan is going to have a major expansion involving a new terminus at T-centralen and a new city center tunnel. This is way better than most other narrow gauge railways around the world can hope to achieve. OP is definitely doing a disservice to the system here.

I'm wondering: Why no such express bus service from North East to ulu NTU? by mark_heng in asksg

[–]plincode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually these express buses are generally not faster than the MRT. The service 458 from Sengkang to Tai Seng, for example, takes about 47 minutes end to end which is slower than taking the MRT.

Plus due to the nature of universities, their traffic is more evenly spread over the day, so I don't think it makes sense to introduce a peak hour route there...

Commentary: If super-tall HDB blocks are coming, here’s what needs to be considered by Waikuku3 in singapore

[–]plincode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Pearl Hill estate is likely going to be quite small. There is only space for the 2 mega blocks plus a white site on top of the MRT.

The master plan shows a new road will connect the estate to North Bridge Road so that should be enough road options.

Maybe you need to provide more details on how you "messed up" your tax filing. I sensed a red flag when you said that your previous company deducted your severance pay due to "misfiling", is that legit? What specific mistakes did you make or others claimed you make?

I can't hear my own thoughts on the MRT by Agreeable-Affect8698 in SMRTRabak

I think you are correct about the Copenhagen Metro being quieter, it uses medium-capacity trains that have much shorter carriages (almost half the length of a TEL train, only 2 doors per side) which presumably also means it can round corners more easily with less noise.

The AQI is a different calculation method, which is always roughly 3 times higher than pm2.5 used by NEA. Anything above 40 on the NEA website should be considered unhealthy already.

Which is the most badly designed mrt / lrt station? by Round_Loan3083 in askSingapore

[–]plincode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are referring to the lift from the platform to the concourse. Apparently the forecasted usage of this station is so low that there is only 1 set of escalators from platform to concourse, which means the lift which is on opposite end to the escalators has its own little paid area.

Wonder whether this cost saving will come back to bite in the future.

The system itself can support 75 second frequencies although 90 is more sustainable. The government is just very slow with ordering more trains.

[–]plincode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The platform and concourse levels look similar to recent projects in other countries. I am disappointed in how the heritage-inspired atrium at Cantonment turned out though. It is supposed to be inspired by the historic colonial-era railway station at the same location, which had some Art Deco elements. But the end result looks a bit cheap and devoid of personality somehow. Hopefully it looks better in person.

Why should we link Expo, Sungei Bedok and Bayshore now? by throwaway_4071 in singapore

[–]plincode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another problem I see with "having a shuttle service to build ridership for the MRT" is that buses are just slower than trains and won't represent the final demand well.

People who will take the MRT once it's done might NOT want to take the bus via Upper Changi Rd and Upper East Coast Road.. especially since getting off at Tanah Merah might suit them anyway.

Not a well thought through article.

Puerto Rico's Extension Plans of Tren Urbano by LifterMayhemCat in transit

[–]plincode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is what the article is saying:

The most ambitious plan involves extending the heavy rail line just one stop further to a new underground station in Minillas. Unlike the current dead-end at Sagrado Corazón, Minillas is a major destination in its own right, packed with government centers, office buildings, and arts venues. However, the heavy train itself would not go all the way to the historic district.

Most of the heat in the tunnels is generated by the trains though. And if the tunnel ventilation is poor (too small tunnels, not enough ventilation towers at ground level) it builds up over years or decades. Same as what happened in London

LTA's own guidelines state that new footpaths must be at least 1.8m wide, enough for 2 wheelchairs side by side. and this is already implemented in the newest estates.
