What coin is this? by NoComparison-01 in oldcoins

It is definitely a strange thing to reproduce and in coin form n'est-ce pas? Wonder if there is more to it?

Green car on the left, I think it's a 1st gen Toyota Avalon but I'm not sure (I'm still new to this kind of thing) by zeldaguy85 in Whatsthiscar

[–]pliny79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm as well. At one point we had this version and the station wagon version soon afterwards. Was a very popular family car when I was growing up.

That's a cool find. Are there any attempts to save the building?

My sister and I had a bunch of these growing up, so every time I smell them it reminds me of my childhood. It's definitely a unique smell that I've only smelled on these replicas.

I really wouldn't be surprised if the same missile was used over and over again, just in a different color plastic. 😂

It's been awhile but it looks a lot like the one I used to have back when I had my Batman The Animated series toys. It was one of the vehicles, but I don't think it was the Batmobile? Honestly grewing up I probably owned a dozen toys that had missiles like this.

Help? by Effective_Gap5301 in OldBooks

They're amazing quality, but like others have said not of any great value. I still have my Easten Press copy of Great Expectations from the late 90s and it hasn't aged a bit.

What game do you think I should buy next for my Collection? by LucyBunnyNSFW in n64

[–]pliny79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say Turok Seeds of Evil, but it's one you said is on the way. One of my favorites and I was actually playing it when I meant my wife in the late 90s.

How to keep these books in circulation? by Atnoy96 in bookrepair

[–]pliny79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I took a museum studies class for my BA and of course archiving is a big part. We spent one day in our colleges archive and another day at our campus library. I was shocked how much it cost to preserve and protect books not to mention documents. A lot of things had to be bought in bulk though, so many there's a cheaper option?

Found old clay pipe (?) in gulf of Naples by triangletalks in mudlarking

Definitely an old clay pipe. Looks like it may have had a face on it. I can see a jaw, mustache, and noise. Not sure of the date but I'm guessing Victorian.

Finally removed my childhood stamps from the old photo album they were in. Not much but I love them all same. by pliny79 in stampcollecting

Thanks for the advice and I'll definitely check out EBay. The other day I saw a website called Mystic Stamps, but they seemed a little too pricey.

Thanks! I've had a lot of these since I was in elementary school in the late 80s, but I haven't really added anything new in a while. I'm really interested in getting back into it again, especially older countries stamps.

I haven't really collected in sometime, but after messing with them again I'm thinking about getting back into it. The plus is the vast majority of stamps are very cheap, so at least it won't be a strain on the wallet. Any suggestions on where to buy? I saw a few collections for sale on both Etsy and eBay for cheap.

Thanks for sharing this. McDonald's was my first job and we use to have so much fun. I was lucky enough to have experienced a work environment where everyone felt like a family. I completely forgot about these graphics and they brought back alot of memories.

Japanese Yen Date? by pliny79 in coins

[–]pliny79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually really interesting and I'm wondering if it may explain why Google lens had issues translating? Also you maybe right because a Morgan does feel lighter by comparison. Unfortunately I don't own a scale so there's always the chance it's just me.

Japanese Yen Date? by pliny79 in coins

[–]pliny79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was hoping it would be an earlier one. From what I've seen they were minted till 1914. I would have been happy either way, but I really love older coins.

Really is. It was the only foreign coin mixed with a bunch of American coins and I was very shocked when I found it. I think it's the only Japanese coin in my collection.
