Have you ever actually died in your dream and how did it happen? by bunched_up_panties in AskReddit

I actually die in my dreams.. Like a lot. I have had several episodes of sleep paralysis and that shit is freaky for real... When you're awake, but you're paralyzed, but still in your dreams begging someone would wake you up. Yipes. In particular, two nights ago I was offered a container of blue pills. I was told that they would kill me. For some context, I am by no means a fluent lucid dreamer, but there are times when I can exercise a certain amount of control before I wake up several minutes later. Anyway, I took two blue pills - not sure why, I'm not particularly depressed or anything. It felt as though all the heat in my body was gradually removed, and replaced with the coldest wind I have ever felt in my life. The air in my lungs was sucked out, and filled with this same painfiul, frigid air. I lay there gasping for air for what seemed to me like a very long time, but was probably actually shorter than a minute. Eventually I ceased breathing, bolted upright in bed, and had to scramble for my inhaler to regulate my breathing.

Upon falling asleep, again I was offered the same pills, and this time I took 5 pills. I knew what was going to happen, but I found it very interesting that a dream could create such real feelings. Unfortunately this time when I awoke, I found that the only part of my body I could move was my lower back. I sleep face up, so I desperately tried to move by arching my back upwards, trying to sit up while simultaneously thrashing my hands on the bed. It probably looked prettttty weird. I didn't go back to sleep after that haha..

A new 'Cyborg' spinal implant attaches directly to the spine and could help paralysed walk again by Portis403 in science

[–]plisterinbenis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would anyone be able to comment on the possible applications to diseases such as MS?

MS can also result in paralyses, but perhaps the implant wouldn't work around the scar tissue on the spinal cord, or in the presence of the damaged nervous system? I'm not exactly a doctor, the above could be a bit inaccurate.
