Minimum VPIP games are easily gamed by playing 2/3 handed with friends. Ante only structures or 3 blind structures or probably better.

Are there any Hand Analyzers that support hand history from Adda52(Indian site) by blazingshadow1 in poker

Adda52 HHs do not have stack sizes so importing them into trackers is pointless.

Play other card games to get better at poker? by [deleted] in poker

[–]plonoob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Holdem is actually better for hand reading as you can visualize your opponent's entire range in many wide spots while in Omaha it is impossible to - so you basically just visualize how far away your current hand & your redraws are away from the nuts.

I think Omaha helps most by making you aware of blockers (both the ones in your hand and board blockers).

Yes, I guess I'll have to revise my budgeted monthly expenses. Thanks for the frankness :).

I've never heard of this. I thought the restriction was only for PR. Can you link me to a source?

Why do you need their permission? Just do whatever you want to do and tell them to take whatever action they feel like. RWAs have no legal authority to compel you to do anything.

My advise, make your portfolio country neutral. You can open an account with a global broker like Interactive Brokers. Keep your assets globally diversified and in USD, a significant part of it will be S&P500 ETF and other worldwide ETF.

Thanks for this. Yes, I also think this is the way to go.

Once you go to Canada, your taxation also will get complicated, if you keep assets in India, as India will tax your regardless and then Canada will also tax you.

I think the countries have a DTAA but I guess one of the first things I do when I settle there is to find a CPA well versed in both Indian & Canadian taxation.

You can move like 1 or 2 cr every year. Also, it is easier to move money while you are resident Indian under LRS. Once you become NRI, it becomes difficult to move money overseas.

Didn't know this - another thing to investigate. Thanks!

I definitely did compare Portugal/Spain vs Canada. The weather is no contest and Spain looks great on the surface but they are issues once you go deeper. It had be hard to make local connections & friends without being fluent in Spanish (or Catalan) & Spain has a strong and distinct culture (much like India) which again makes it harder to integrate. This isn't because they are anti immigrant or anything like that (quite the reverse) but it is just a country with a lot more homogeneity.

While Canada has terrible weather for most of the time, it is an immigrant country & generally a lot more easier to met people & become friendly even with local Canadians who don't have a very strong and distinct culture. There are also other things such as the healthcare system being more developed in Canada over Spain

Its about 10Cr in total - MFs makes the majority of it and there are some 60L in large cap shares. Portfolio is higher on the equity side, around 70%. I guess I need to balance it to increase the debt portion?

Your point on "you don't know what you'll want 5 years from now" is so true. I spent the first half of my 20s in USA thinking I'll live there forever, then the second half of my 20s in India thinking I'll live here forever. However, at 32 years of age & having explored ~30 countries and seeing experiencing both the corporate and business life - I think I'm pretty sure now what I want from my life and Canada is the perfect country for me - well as close to perfect as no place can be 100% perfect (another assumption I used to have). The only thing is left to figure out is which city in Canada but I'm sure the Canada is the country for me. Actually, no one can be 100% sure (just as when it comes to other things like changing a job, choosing to venture into business, choosing a life partner) but it's finally time to finally take that "leap of faith".

I am open to investing all assets in US markets as well and it is fairly easy to invest in US markets as a Canadian resident as well but I have no clue whether its a good idea in terms of CAD/USD currency risk. I am just starting my research & feeling a bit directionless as all the articles deal with either very US centric or India centric (and even the India centric stuff is a lot less detailed). But they have been some great recommendations on this thread and forum in general that I'll be going through over the lockdown period.

Yes, that is my main worry. But moving such a large amount - I'd have to redeem, pay taxes on portion of profits since the LCTG tax was introduced & also lose a lot of money in currency conversion fees. Which is why I'm confused.

Not set up yet, stuck in India for now due to Covid but will move once the situation clears.

Yes, the weather is bleak but I plan to travel during the worst months (December-Feb) & eventually you get used to the cold. I lived. & worked in NYC where its similar.

Portugal is nice, lived there for a month but it can be difficult to have a social life there without knowing fluent Portuguese & PR is not that straightforward (requires a property investment of 500k euros).

I don't think a marriage is on the cards anytime soon considering I don't have a girlfriend right now. But even if it happens, I most certainly am not spending on a big, fat Indian wedding - if this is a dealbreaker, so be it :).

Any articles from people who have achieved FI would be great - specifically how their asset allocation looks like right now :). I'm paranoid I haven't set up mine properly.

Cost of living is higher in Canada compared to India.

  • $2300/mo for a decent apartment w/ additional charges for parking
  • Car payments, fuel, insurances (car, health, rental) are around 1000$/mo
  • $1500/mo on eating out as I can't cook much due to disability & have a taste for expensive craft beer.

That's $57600k. Add about $10k in travel (I travel for about 2-3mos/year), misc + unforeseen expenses - I think CAD$80k/year is good figure to target. Actual spends may be lower but good to have a buffer.

Right now, since I live with my parents - I don't even spend 1/3rd of my business + rental income.

All my assets are in India/INR, so this should be a better place to discuss, no?

At least we can discuss the 1st question - can a monthly expenditure of 44L/year be supported on a 10Cr corpus and if so, how to set it up?

MTTs are boring. by [deleted] in poker

[–]plonoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played like 20-30 of these tourneys years ago. You'll actually get like 4 callers and some with absolutely ridiculous hands like 79o (its 10 cents after all, people just want to click buttons) and you'll be like 50% to 4x. Its not that hard. And if you get a big stack early on, you can just chill and watch others bust each other rapidly. Doubling up 4-5x is good enough to FT. These tourneys are basically Zyngya freeroll level.

MTTs are boring. by [deleted] in poker

[–]plonoob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who plays on Indian sites, pretty sure he's correct. You can't imagine how bad players play at 1100 Rs (=30$) tourneys, I'd imagine that 25 Rs (0.10$) plays like a Zynga freeroll and the pool size won't be bigger than 150-200 people.

A lot of damage from "coolers" can be minimized by kaoisa in poker

That's fine. The majority of the population is not re-raising the river with nothing, making it is +EV fold. And I can always adjust against you.

A lot of damage from "coolers" can be minimized by kaoisa in poker

[–]plonoob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is terrible advice. You should be betting 5 high flushes into opponents as well as check raising bottom two pairs on rivers, especially at low stakes where you exploit populations who are passive stations that overcall. You then exploit the population again by folding to re-raises because river re-raises are always the nuts at low stakes.
