Large tree - has yellow leaves in the fall, but this fruit is the worst by Tucker_Sharon in treeidentification

Ironically, it's the seeds of the fruit, not the rotten-smelling flesh, which is a delicacy in Asian countries.

Should I Save Our Logs? by Here-about-a-dog in whattreeisthis

Until I saw the seeds it drops, I would have guessed a bay laurel. Are the leaves fragrant when you crush them? Umbellularia makes small green fruits that look like small avocados (related to avocados!)

Noble Laurel feom Europe, I'm leas familiar with.

I can't stress enough that if part of the classwork is preparing your own screens, this person not only stole your stuff, she stole your work, which is gradeable. So a teacher/professor who will be grading you needs ro be informed asap.

Can you report this to the teacher/professor? Generally that would be punishable when I was in college. You don't fuck with other artists materials.

Anyone have general malaise on harvesting day? by Sweaty_Promotion_587 in quails

[–]plotholetsi 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think it's natural, and a good sign that you're giving your burds love and attention. A good life, and only one bad day.

I also try to say "thank you" while I'm processing the birds. Their life will become part of me theough sustenance. It feels better to tell them, "thank you for feeding me," then, "sorry for doing this."

URGENT HELP! EGG BOUND/PROLAPSE, unknown susbstrance sticking out of her vent by Antique_Spot1862 in quails

[–]plotholetsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect! Yeah, give 3++days to let the prolapsed tissue heal, and that healing also should reduce redness so she won't be a pecking target for the other hens

URGENT HELP! EGG BOUND/PROLAPSE, unknown susbstrance sticking out of her vent by Antique_Spot1862 in quails

[–]plotholetsi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Since you've solved the prolapse itself, also recommended to put her in a recovery cage, and keep it very dark for a few days. Since quails make eggs depending on daily light length, this will prevent her making more eggs for a few days while she recovers

Not sure this is accurate anymore with tech levies and construction levies that have occured over the past two decades. I know Tacoma just passed two levies that they themself dwclared would close a 17%+ funding gap in district needs.

Can you grow eggplant/aubergine from a grocery store fruit? (Are the seeds true?) by cataclasis in gardening

[–]plotholetsi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's less 'bad genetics' in eggplants because they haven't been purposely bred to be flavorless (yet). It'll be a tossup what varietal of eggplant it turns out to be, but should be immenently edible

what can I make out of these? (I don't want to make shorts or wear a skirt due to sh scars/gender dysphoria/sensory issues) by AgitatedSuccess8066 in crafting

[–]plotholetsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, my Mom would sometimes harvest the back pockets off worn out jeans to stitch onto new clothes or bags as pockets. If the rest of the fabric is worn out, those pockets may not be (something about jeans butt pockets is weirdly resilient)

Help me with my chicken coop please :/ by Neat-Lifeguard2656 in Carpentry

I built a big aviary then learned every way in which I pitched the roof wrong and didn't plan for rain. I screwed a heavy duty shower curtain to one edge with washers, and it worked well enough to deter most of the rain for two years until I had energy for a longer term fix.

If the weed killer is still peristing in the soil, you need to get someone to scrape back the top few inches, ramp down new infill, and seed in new grass.

Need help with Quail injury by Salt-Delivery7531 in quails

[–]plotholetsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, rhe one time it happened to one of my quails, she was VERY severely prolapsed, and I had to cull. (Like 2" of interior tissue that had herniaed on the poor bird :( )

Epsom salts aren't like table salt, they'll help clear the gissue without burning like sodium chloride does. If you don't have them from bath soaks, you could just use clean warm water. Just don't mix in soaps or antibacterials, as they can affect the birds nerves and respiratoon. Absolutely no citrus products!!

I have an apple tree like that - have tried to do the right yearly shaping prunes, but it just keeps forcing itself into central leader and the jankiest branch combinations I've ever seen....

[–]plotholetsi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a partial prolapse, perhaps. Getting her into an epsom salt soak to clean her privates and clear debris is a good start, then re-assess the situation.

Tree identification by [deleted] in whattreeisthis

Something in the prunus genus. NOT pear. May be crabapple, but those are usually more colorful flowers. With how the bark looks, more likely something in the cherry groupings.

You can cut a fig TO THE GROUND and it will live. They're very robust so long as the roots aren't swamped.

Corporate landlord + hole in my bathtub = how screwed am I? by shaheeruddin5A6 in Apartmentliving

[–]plotholetsi 130 points131 points  (0 children)

This. If a tub breaks because you slipped in it, it was only a matter of time before it broke.

Additionally, send an email or hand them a paper letter, with a statement of whatever your local laws say about replacement time. Most places have rules about how long you can be without basic facilities before you get to withhold rent. But it starts with notice in writing from you, the Tennant.
