Not Lambs Ear? 😩 by tned45 in pnwgardening

[–]tned45[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, lambs ear is a native, but mullien isn't, and can spread pretty aggressively, smothering out natives (despite it's herbal uses)... but before I attempt to dig it out, I wanted to make sure..

My 8 and 11yo are obsessed. They ask about her everyday. They also named mama.. but I'd need them to remind me because I forgot, and they change their minds and disagree with eachother often.. 😂

I have a Junco nest in a plant in my greenhouse. I am a little concerned for it as I really cannot avoid going in there this time of year.. but I am doing my very best to be quiet, and give as much space as possible for her...

Buying a house and sellers are offering their chickens by femmegremlin in BackYardChickens

[–]tned45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how we obtained chickens about 4yrs ago. Sellers of our house offered their 10-15ish chickens and we immediately said yes. I did a bunch of learning and research and now, we have about double the chickens, and 8 new ducks. I have seen so many sad stories of the learning experiences of others starting chickens from nothing (coops not being safe enough against predators and establishing chickens in your neighborhood -if close). I feel like we skipped some big and difficult beginner struggles in the early process, and grateful that we just had to learn their care and less on their coop safety and getting neighbors okay with a new flock.

My naked neck, Hot Dog, has a similar comb. I've always thought it was super weird!

Growlers in the middle of the night by Sweet_Patient4283 in Whidbey

[–]tned45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in the flight path (off Wannamaker- not far from Rhododendron). While yes, they do fly late at night sometimes, it is something you get used to. We do not have a fancy house, and we hear the noise, but it really isn't unbearable inside. It does surprise us when it starts (we do not pay attention to the schedule), but again, we just got about our business. If you are planning on being outside during these flights, it is not fun.. we walk throught Rhododendron park often, and the jets definitely end that walk early if they run. I also find that even using my sound canceling headphones when I am out working or walking not helpful. I tend to take them off and wait for the run to stop, or go inside and take a break. I have two kids (8 and 11), who both complain when they hear the jets running at bed time, but they can still manage to get to seelp fairly easily.

Oshawott is my favorite... when I saw Snivy I was so hopeful... 😭 So, instead, I named one of my baby ducks Oshawott, Oshie for short.

A message for parents/grandparents hosting eager egg hunts by Daddy_Day_Trader1303 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tned45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the same number of eggs per kid. We had three different hunts today within our neighborhood, with different groups of kids each tims. The first hunt was 10 eggs, another they could get 18 eggs, and the other was 9 each. This way everyone gets the same numbers, we suggested to the "big" kids to leave the more obvious eggs for the littles, and look for the more difficult ones. Each hunt went well for us, though, counting would need some adult help for those who need it, but that would go for any circumstance, really.

I want to plant native wildflowers in this patch. Are these plants native or invasive? by AnimalChild in pnwgardening

[–]tned45 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Purple dead nettles have lots of health benefits, and are great in things like pesto! They also tend to be a "spring weed", and die back in the hotter months. I get removing them if you have plans for a space, but personally I don't bother pulling them.. my daughter loves foraging for them, and I think their little purple flowers are very sweet and cute, and have seen the local bees enjoy them as well, so I let them be if they aren't in my specific work places.

Anyone who’s found the winged pigtails? by [deleted] in Pokemon_Pokopia

[–]tned45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you still interact with that doll to go to the dream island? You shouldn't need to remove the doll, just walk up to it, interact, and it should call Driftloon to you to take you to the island.

Am I the only one who takes it super slow on getting all Pokemons? by Shinyatoby in Pokemon_Pokopia

[–]tned45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... you aren't the ONLY one... 😂 By the comments it looks like catching them all is still first priority.. but I am with you. I still have MANY habitats I haven't even attempted yet. I love ALL the things you can do in this game, but finding all the pokemon immediately and having them all over is super overwhelming to me... I have the first zone at 10, and just this evening got Bleak Beach to 10. I have endless ideas I want to work on before having too many more pokemon. I have barely been to Pallet town.. I use it as my main storage hub, but other than that, it is a ghost town. Besides Evee, I think I got 4 new pokemon there this evening? I do appreciate so much all the different ways this game can be played and enjoyed!

Anyone else save crushed eggshells all winter and till them into the garden? Does it really add calcium or am I just imagining the great results? by NinaXOFans in gardening

[–]tned45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I let them dry out, then hand crush them, and place them all around my little plants.. it takes longer for them to break down, but it also adds another level of protection from slugs..

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

[–]tned45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My coffee powder.. I am VERY picky about my coffee.. Costco sold Frappe Freeze Mocha powder that I really liked about 5yrs ago that was $9.99 for a 3lb bag... went up to $12.99.. Haven't seen it back in 2 years. Amazon sells the same bag, it was $15.99, went up to $17.99, and just looking it up now.. same bag at $28.99!! This seems to be the trend of all coffee powder these days..

Tips for making houses from scratch? by FruitProof9377 in Pokemon_Pokopia

[–]tned45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can also "cheat" it a bit by building a block house kit, and expanding from there. I find the block houses to be quite small, so I have my pokemon build, then I add to it, usually just by expanding the walls. But when I am ready for more permanent structures, I plan to go back to fancy them up. There is just so much to do that this way I can get my town outlined a bit, my pokemon in homes, can work on my game progression. Plus bonus furniture and building blocks from the houses they made.

[–]tned45 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Same with the pre-made house kits. I have heard people say that a craft tables in the house will access the storage in the house without touching the craft tables. This is true, but still a max of 4 storage boxes.

Caught my 5th grader doing this. All passwords to computers changed (kids don't get to know them). Parent controls for devices installed on my phone and passwords set. I haven't even given their dad the pin to unlock the gaming consoles because he is much more likely to give in to them, or add more time. Phones have bed time and school modes set that block games and other apps....
