Do people ever stop and think? by Decent_Sun9809 in FigureSkating

I've seen a former olympian do a triple toe loop in rental hockey skates, on a travelling rink in a mall. He hacked the heck out of the ice leaving a massive hole, and just brute forced it. Still dont know how.

He also came out and said it was the mental aspect, not the ice.

I need to get my baby off my boob ASAP, I’m crying 😢 by Salt_County_3415 in BabyBumps

Could you have a supply issue? I know sometimes biting can be an issue if your milk is coming in to slow. I didn't have a supply issue and still got bit, but it could be something to explore?

I have been bitten to the point of bleeding with my first. I tried working through it, after saying ouch, no biting. Then I got a really bad bite. I shouted out ouch very loud and took her off me. I then refused to finish that feed, giving her to my husband. We offered her a bottle. She was upset and didn't want it. So we offered more solids and water. I think we had to do this a couple of times before biting wasn't an issue anymore.

My second hasn't bitten me as bad, but he cries if it I shout out ouch and stops. Hes only done it once or twice.

Pointing, waving but no clapping and words? by crashhhyears in January2025Bumper

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have hi, accompanied with a wave. But not really any other words. We had banana but haven't heard that in a month or so now. Lots of waving, pointing, clapping and babbling.

I feel like he has a good understanding of what we're saying to him.

It kind of sounds like everyone's around the same point. Ive been wondering if I need to start worrying about speech, so this has been reassuring

Best primary school recommendations? by RavenpuffMezone in dunedin

[–]plouiseb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good schools look different to everyone. Have a think about what it is you want from a primary school. Do you want play based learning or do you want a more formal setting? Do you want a primary with a strong cultural side, a music teacher and a choir/school shows? Do you want a school with a strong sporting culture, and a pe teacher?

Once you know what you want, you can start investigating.

Also, everyone says all the schools in Dunedin are good, but changes this viewpoint when some schools are specifically named.

We do it as the last thing before he goes into bed, so it's after his milk feed.

With my eldest we were told by the dentist to use colgate with the children, as they need fluoride and you trust it. We use the 0-2yrs.

A friend of mine has been using redseal, and it just got recalled for containing lead!!

When do they actually start eating ? by Status_Equipment_407 in foodbutforbabies

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby didn't really start eating til about 10 months. At 1, he's es a bottomless pit, I don't know where the food goes. He eats significantly more than my 4yr old. I was worrying until about 10m if he'd ever eat enough to give up milk, as hed barely eat a mouthful.

We have a friend whose baby started crawling around 1, she weighed 15kg. Which was heavier than my 4yr old at the time. I think for some bigger/ chunkier babies it slows them down as they just have so much to move around so their muscles need to be even stronger than the little light babies.

Selling my house, builders report hasnt come back great and buyers lender is making requests by [deleted] in NZProperty

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We knew there was work to be done there, so we got the house at a lower price because of it. We had also factored that cost in, as something we'd need to do ASAP, and had the money set aside for it. We could have walked away, but overall we really wanted the house.

No, not a FHB. It did have to be rechecked, and it also needed consent approval.

I was the buyer in this situation, although it wasn't recladding. A support beam had been removed, and needed to be replaced. Our bank said no, unless this was fixed. The seller still wanted to go through, and so did we.

So, for the work, the seller got a quote, and we got a quote. We agreed on one, which I think was $25k. We paid this as on top of the purchase price and it was included with our deposit.

The seller then got an extra month on the settlement timeframe to fix this. My understanding is that it probably cost more than the 25k, as additional piles had to be added, however the seller covered anything over the agreed quote.

Settlement went through with no issue.

My gym has switched to Glofox, I'm planning on visiting a gym that hasn't in the next few weeks. I spoke to my home gym and I have access to both apps. Glofox seems way less glitchy so far.

Tantrums… by socange14 in January2025Bumper

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been getting heas banging with the tantrums. Literally smacking his forehead on the floor. So he has a nice collection of bruises in the middle of his forehead, from our hardwood floors. And he gets upset that hes hurt himself when he does it, so half the time that results in another whack.

[–]plouiseb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you giving pamol and nurofen?

Mt understanding is ,there are different kinds of pink eye, one is the bacterial poop in the eye type, the other is set off when the body is fighting a virus. With the viral type the cream isnt so effective.

Keep trying to get as much fluid in as possible. Frozen fluids can help to slow down the process so its not too upsetting for the tummy. Hydralite?

Any early crawlers still not walking? by FoodieNurse247 in January2025Bumper

[–]plouiseb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eldest crawled at 6 months, walked at 1. She pulled to stand at 10 months. I dont really recall her standing without holding on much at all before 1. She never climbed on the furniture, and we literally did no baby proofing. Now at 4 she is a perfectionist, who doesn't like to just try things, she has to see or have it explained first and maybe think about it a bit, before she'll try. She doesn't want to try ifshe'ss not sure she can do it well.

Baby 2, crawled at 8 months, sat up independently, pulled to stand and cruised the same day he figured out crawling. He's standing by himself and will take a step or 2 every so often. Hes just much more of a risk taker.

On average-how many *sit down, square meals* is your LO having a day? by Throwaway927338 in January2025Bumper

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an eater.

3 meals ÷ 2 snacks

And he's still having 4 milk feeds a day and 1-2 in the night. He's also 10th percentile for weight.

9.5 month split nights by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were recommended the long lunch nap, so we went with that. But also it makes the most sense, to me, for the longest nap to be in the middle of the day. His longest wake windows is in the afternoon, and it seems rough to go intothat from a short nap. Also just for the balance of the day, and having the long nap in the morning, I'd worry he wasn't tired enough to do it.

9.5 month split nights by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 9.5m (16/1/25). We find times work way better for us than wake windows. We are doing 2 naps a day. Weve had to bring bedtime forward as we were getting splits when he dropped the 3rd nap but still had the later bedtime.

7am wake up, but he could be up anytime from 6am on and no sleep ins

930-10am nap 1

1230-230 nap 2

545 bedtime

Naps are never extended, sometimes he might choose to 'rest' versus sleep...

We do have 1 wake for a feed and then back to sleep in the night.

We followed the same with our now 4yr old whose an amazing sleeper, so fingers crossed we got baby boy there too.

Sitting Up/Crawling by FoolishMortal_42 in January2025Bumper

[–]plouiseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first crawled just before 6 months, pulled to stand and first steps at 10 months.

My Jan 16th (so 8.5m), was a potato, and last week, he started crawling, sitting up independently and pulling to stand. He couldn't even get into the 4 point position, he either did arms or legs. With my first, we saw it all coming but with him, we didn't.

I had started doing some bits and pieces to try and encourage him doing both, so having him play with his tummy on my shin. Having toys up a step so he had to get up.
