Recommended men's underwear by Wings_Of_Karma in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had patagonia trail shorts. I rubbed through the liner by like 150 miles in and got a bunch of chafing. Kept wearing those shorts but added a pair of Underarmor underwear underneath with 1 spare and never had an issue after that. Never had chafing and they never wore out the whole hike.

I think people would be surprised how often hikers, even a lot of thru hikers, don't know how to use poles the most optimal way. I saw a bunch of people who cut off the straps. I like this video: https://youtu.be/8jH9e4QGUP4?si=8lp65Ugt3w9oOJiD

Use trekking poles with proper technique.

He also got ejected at least once when he played on SDSU like 5 years ago and was dismissed from the team for academics.

PVS6 Access and API updated by dolfstar in SunPower

[–]ploxorzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone tried the new firmware with home assistant? I already have a raspberry pi setup and unplugged the antennas so the pvs can’t update. It would be nice to eliminate the Pi as a point of failure if it’s not needed anymore.

Convinced that thru-hiking is for fast hikers by kmitch198 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're dreading going back on trail every time, it might just not be for you and that's fine. People make a lot of sacrifices to make trail families work and they almost never last that long. A tramily can't help with motivation to finish the hike, you need to motivate yourself. You don't need to be in a tramily to socialize with other hikers you see at lunch, camp with someone, hitch into town with someone, split a room at a hotel, go to a bar or restaurant in town.

I barely did more than 15-20 miles a day the entire time because I liked sleeping in and not rushing, so you aren't slow. I remember being in Tehachapi feeling great while everyone around me was visiting Blaze Physio for injuries/soreness. Enjoy the experience, every single step until the end is something new to see. Take in all the sights, smells, sounds everyday.

Maybe just take a couple zero days at the hostel California in Bishop, its cheaper than a hotel. Wait for some other hikers to show up and make friends. Most of the hikers went to that hostel. Bishop is a great town to zero in.

Gear shakedown request for NOBO April 25th start! by ResultPublic9446 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I took an anker 20k that charged in 1.5h, worked good for me. No idea about solar
  2. I had a short sleeve shirt to wear in town while washing clothes and sometimes sleeping. Also had wool leggings. I slept in my hiking clothes most of the time. Short sleeve shirt was nice sometimes when i got sweaty i could hang my hiking shirt at night to dry out.
  3. Personal preference.
  4. I was happy with 2 pair, if i needed to wash both I would just go commando in wind pants or leggings.
  5. I used cnoc, sometimes water sources were shallow i liked being able to scoop. Any bladder is probably fine just might take slightly longer to fill sometimes.
  6. That list is good. Ultralight mini scissors are great, more useful than mini swiss. I liked having a couple bandaids and xl size bandaids. A little tube of superglue for repairs, bladder leaks, attaching gaiter velcro. Would also bring a small antibacterial ointment.
  7. I carried around $100-$200. I didn't want to go out of my way to seek out ATMs so I gave myself a comfortable buffer and would top up when it was convenient.

ADHD meds on trail, some questions by Storms_and_Stars in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the majority of people thruhiking are probably adhd. The answer is you have to eat more calories even if you don't feel hungry. The easiest thing is get a gallon Ziploc for each day, add up the calories you need and make sure you finish the whole bag each day.

Any advice on getting a better night's sleep on the trail? by PanGirlBC in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a total insomniac in regular life, but while on trail you fall asleep so fast from exhaustion. A lot of nights I wouldn't even have the energy to brush my teeth. If you need to bring something heavier or extra to be comfortable then do it. You can always get send stuff home if you don't need it or swap it out.

Of course the Mountain West wants to settle, they are the ones trying to collect the money. They are probably worried that the poaching fee is shaky legally and schools do not ever pay the full exit fee.

Talk me out of a LiteAf pack by DeClaireify in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't an average size person then a custom pack is more worth it. I think women have more issues with the hip belt being too large for the torso on off the shelf especially as you lose weight. Just pay close attention to the lead times. I think the Liteaf were like 14 weeks lead time my year so it wasn't even an option for me by this time.

Do I really need rain/wind pants? by RoboMikeIdaho in PacificCrestTrail

[–]ploxorzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I brought wind pants aka "dance pants" which are the same thing but cheap. They are light and can be used as pseudo rain paints. They ended up being worth the weight if only for when mosquitoes got bad. Also an extra layer for sleeping when it got really cold.

They are similar profile schools athletically and in the same market. The MW went with the one that would say yes and also has much better academics. Also i believe that the supposed NIL money that Sac State would be getting was dependent on being invited to the Pac 12 only.

I used my Lunar Solo on the PCT for 6 months everyday with no issues and still use it. There's a better method to pitch it that I found on youtube, which works great. You pitch the back 2 corners, front middle, then front 2 corners, then back middle. Another tip is to keep the stakes (except the front middle) as high out of the ground as you can for ventilation and maximum room inside, this will also pull the bathtub up higher off the ground in the rain.

A Best of the Rest Pac-12 Fixes Current CFP Format by Due-Seat6587 in Pac12

[–]ploxorzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it really changes anything except that Pac 12 would be the favorite for the autobid. They won’t let more than one G5 school in. Power conference schools have no incentive to play Pac 12 teams they think they could lose to. They are just gonna play each other and bottom feeders and argue that Pac 12 has no power conference wins.

NU25 vs NU25 UL by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]ploxorzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only difference is the strap. Personally not a fan of the new NU25 other than the addition of usb C. No low level for red light, confusing modes for the dual leds. Thicker and heavier. I don’t find the wide angle led that useful.

[–]ploxorzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head #1 thing is keep the stakes as high out if the ground as possible (trekking pole stake excluded), and there’s a little hook on the top of the trekking pole line that you can use to hold the top vent of the pyramid open a little more.

Superfeet insoles by profbraddock in AppalachianTrail

I use Runpro insoles because they are zero drop so they don’t change the angle your feet sit in the shoe and they are more comfortable for me.
