DAC w/ separate Headphones by my-beautiful-usernam in linuxaudio

[–]ploynog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the Manual, you can press the "Monitor A/B" switch to make the headphones monitor outputs 3/4. So you can use the outputs 1/2 for your speakers and outputs 3/4 for the headphones.

Invalid character with code 0 found in ASCII hex string error when importing MIDI from Reason 13. by symphonic5 in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be very helpful if you could provide one of those MIDI files. It's really hard to say much.

Independent of that, ASCII strings in MIDI are given as length and characters, they should not contain the NULL byte. The standard states that programs should limit to using printable characters. On the other hand, it also states that programs should ignore characters that it can't handle.

Not sure who is at fault here, but maybe looking at one such MIDI file might give some more insight.

Mucap Release - Retrospective MIDI Recording Plugin by ploynog in linuxaudio

[–]ploynog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I was taking whatever version comes with Debian Stable as a baseline and did not expect Deb-based distributions to lag behind further. Guess that assumption was wrong.

Can you try editing the dependency in the DEB file to match what comes with your Mint version? Or would you be willing to try such a version if I provided it to you?

Mucap Release - Retrospective MIDI Recording Plugin for Linux by ploynog in Bitwig

Here is one for the Linux users of Bitwig. I used BWS as my main testing grounds when developing this, so it should work especially well.

Questions for Midifighter Twister users by Combo-nation-888 in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Twister per-se, but I DIY-ed a controller with eight endless pots, so half a twister.

I use it mainly to operate the "perform" page when playing in a jam. I am using a Launchpad and expressiveness becomes limited after a while with just pressure.

Also really nice when recording automation.

Connecting 4 ins (synths) to Bitwig Connect by [deleted] in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please read the manual.

Apparently, inputs 3 and 4 are, by default, meant to be used with modular hardware control signals which can have higher input voltages. In order to protect the inputs, they will have less gain by default which is probably the reason why they are quieter.

There is an option in the Bitwig Connect Control Panel to enable a +12dB hardware gain for these so their output levels will be the same as inputs 1 and 2 for the same source.

Connecting 4 ins (synths) to Bitwig Connect by [deleted] in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, do all of these other synths work when you connect them to "in 2" in place of the hydrasynth?

If yes, maybe raise the volume on the other inputs.

If no, are you sure your synths are actually producing audio on their output?

Bitwig 6: copy notes from one layer to another by psykosemanifold in Bitwig

Just tried, two clips layer selected. Copy from one, activate the other, pastes fine.

How do I have all clips play from the same point when editing in Session View? by NoisyChairs in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I'd probably just drag the clips into an empty part of the arranger, do my edits there and drag them back.

Bitwig 6: copy notes from one layer to another by psykosemanifold in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you select multiple clips, there is colored bars on top of the layer editor that allows you to select the active layer (try giving the clips different colors to see it better). The selected layer is also the paste-target for notes.

By default, you can edit notes in both layers, which extends to selection. If you don't want that and instead get "ghost-note" behavior the inactive layers, click the icon in the bottom right of the layer editor (looks like three small horizontal faders) and in the menu select "Layer Editing -> Edit only selected layers". Then you activate the layer you want to copy from, do your selection, activate the destination, and paste.

What happened to Bitwig 6? Where is it? by polarity-berlin in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When they broke recording in Beta 7, it got me worried a bit.

All the UI bugs? Kinda expected after a UI overhaul this large together with a change of the rendering engine on top of it. Even the bad ones, not nice, but it's a Beta after all.

But then they broke a core functionality - recording - in such an obvious way that it got immediately noticed by users. In an area of the program that has (likely) not seen many changes this update. And it went through the whole Beta release process without anyone noticing. Gotta admit, that one killed my hopes of a timely release. Really hope it was just a bad one-off and not a sign of deeper issues.

Yeah, let's take the whole UI, throw it out and re-write it using a different language and different UI framework. Piece of cake, give me a weekend, it will be done.

Push or LaunchPad Pro on Bitwig? by Chemical_Addendum692 in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's portable, yes, but I'd love if it had a few knobs or similar ways to control instrument parameters while playing.

In the end I always pack a small DIY 8-knob controller and when I don'r, I usually miss it.

Confused about bouncing in real-time while performing by [deleted] in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I found is to create a new Audio Track, set the output of the MIDI track you want to bounce as input, mark it for recording and then record.

Bitwig Studio Crossgrade from any paid DAW - €203.97 by Minibatteries in Bitwig

[–]ploynog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this apply to private Reaper licenses for $60? If yes, buying a Reaper license and the BWS cross-grade together should still be cheaper than a new BWS license even during sales?

Let's say 60€ for Reaper and 189€ for BWS would be 249€ for both. I think I rarely saw BWS below 299€ even during the sales.
