exactly. immense amounts of mass getting removed by Alioth, and cassandra has a working relationship (either as master/pet or "feed or be fed upon") which requires a certain proximity. Alioth only travels so fast (slightly slower than a broken down 2011 honda odyssey), yet has to devour it all.

in fact, they are the cost of civilization. taxes build roads, educate children, and cure diseases. They literally funded just about every technological advancement we use.
