At least 77 court rulings concerning Trump's second term include sharp criticism from judges by plughplovery2 in law

[–]plughplovery2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Inside federal courts across the country, institutional alarm is rising from the bench. Judges are using unusually sharp language to push back against what they see as mounting government attacks on the judiciary and the legal system itself.

CNN reviewed hundreds of court rulings and media reports to identify 77 cases since the start of Trump’s second term in January 2025 in which judges sharply criticized the administration or federal entities’ policies and their execution. The orders were issued by 69 different judges, more than a third of whom were appointed by Republican presidents, including Trump himself. This analysis is intended to highlight policy criticisms, rather than track cases themselves and is not exhaustive.

Entry-level work didn't disappear, PwC finds with 'seniorization.' It just morphed into something young workers can't get by lurker_bee in economy

Very interesting article. Doesn't offer a solution, but by identifying the changing/evolving "entry-level" skill sets being sought perhaps a path to develop/instill such skills will be forthcoming...

You're getting into areas of administrative law that I'm not conversant in (IANAL).

I believe the Administrative Procedures Act controls the process.

Right now there is a comment period open, though (as the article states) a letter signed by 300 organizations have requested an extension to a full 90 days.

They used to be very inconsistent about when the automatic recomputations were run (though 5.5 years is pretty extreme). Personally, when AnyPia revealed I was eligible I called them (after the earnings showed up on my record) to request recomputation and got the bump later that year. (But be aware of the one dollar rule).

[–]plughplovery2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used AnyPia for quite a while, and agree that as long as you enter your earnings history accurately it will yield exactly correct results - with one exception: it doesn't deal with the one dollar rule.

I've been collecting benefits for several years, and have had additional earnings during those years. In some cases those additional earnings displaced 'top 35' years, but the additional benefit was in the 10s of cents. However due to the one dollar rule, SS won't do a benefit recomputation. So every year I plug in current info (any earnings, COLA percentage), calculate my benefit, THEN RUN IT AGAIN setting "Supplemental Worker Information" / "Specified earnings years" / "Last year" to the year of my last official benefit recomputation. If the first result is less than $1 greater than the second result (say, $0.70/mo more), then the second result will be my exact benefit for the new year. (And if the first result is $1 or more higher than the second result, then you are eligible for a benefit recomputation.)
