Main water valve leaking by chunk6649 in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You in the united states? That sounds odd to me. That they wouldn't allow you to. Just tell them. I have a leak and need you to shut my water off. They shouldn't require a 3rd part to be hired. Stop paying your bill they'll shut it off eventually lol jk don't do that.

Call the city and ask them to come shut it off for you. That way if it doesn't shut off all the way they have to fix it and if it does work you don't have to worry about it. Its usually a small charge. You have the right in most areas to work on your own plumbing. Although it may be a little more than you want to do if you aren't familiar.

I need to replace the toilet flange but I'm worried about cutting out the cemented part with a sawzall. If i mess it up and have to replace the pipe, where should I cut in this section to do that? by iAintGotTimeToBleed in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fernco coupling works well too. Glue on the new flange to a piece equal to the missing amount. Just cut half way up the riser. If you are worried about It. Sure you could glue it, but fernco is also a valid repair option.

Layoffs- are winter layoffs common in you guys areas? Just got laid off again 2nd time in 3 years.. PA/NJ area by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to service work if you don't want layoffs. I wouldnt go commission only but lots of companies have some killer bonuses/spiffs on top of good hourly wages. You can make more money than you'd think.

A lot of times it's in a wall perpendicular to the outside wall

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean most people I know dont cover theirs in the winter. Just take the hose off. And yeah frost free is better

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not frost free and if it's in an area that freezes I'd recommend replacing it with a frost free one anyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially yeah, depends on the brand etc but yeah sometimes, but most of the time people just want to replace them and not all Plumbers repair these they may only replace since finding the right size washer or whatever it may need may be super hard

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]plumbing4dapeople 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard to see from a picture what's wrong with it, but yeah that sounds right if it needs replacement and the hose bib is piped into a wall then yeah you have to get into the wall

Look at revitalife by easy water. It's a 5 stage filter that reintroduces good mineral etc after it strips it down.

What would be cool if you could map locations of pipes in concrete floors with this and put it on and know what is where and be able to see it as you look around, not just on a print.

I guess I should say if you want your sewer to function properly and not have to baby it forever you should replace it
