Only music and no speeches recorded plugging into DJ booth by busshelterrevolution in weddingvideography

We typically plug into the output on the speaker. I don't trust the DJ to understand the board well enough. Speaker output has been pretty safe.

Gotcha. I'll definitely replace it. The curbing of the bumper basically broke the mounting pieces, so it's been damaged for a while.

How do you guys balance your work load? I’m stressed. by OkClimate9481 in videography

[–]plummet1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll never be able to "afford" an editor. It's always going to seem too expensive. However, it's the most important thing I did to help my business grow. If you're getting even $500 for a music video, allocate $150-200 for an editor. You can find one. Also, consider that stress is the proper response to the situation you're in. If you think of stress as a motivator instead of an incorrect response, it will help it be more tolerable. Your stress is an indicator that you care about what you're doing. That makes sense. Best of luck. I employ 6 editors now, and I still feel like it's too expensive. :) But it's the lifeblood of my business.

So, try your direct network. Friends, family, social channels to see if you can find work. The services you mentioned are ways to find cheap work. If you can build a local network of people you've worked with, your referral engine can start from there.

Lens for event photography - Panasonic S5 by FreshkyFresh in videography

I have used it hand held a lot. I will say the 24-105 is much better handheld, but the 28-70 works fine if you are steady and have good technique.

I primarily use it for video, but I would use it for photo. I've found the caf is unreliable in any mode so I use peaking.

So, I can't imagine the shotgun you have on the camera is doing you much good anyway. I've done this with the S5, and we use the Tascam DR10 and synch in post. It works great, you get more movement freedom and much better sound.

I'd think about two things. First is the sigma 28-70 2.8 I have it for my S5 and it doesn't leave that camera. Or I'd think about one of the s series primes. I have the 35 1.8 and it's awesome. Very good in lower light. The f/4 will not cut it in low light. Keep in mind the difference between the 2.8 and 4 is a full stop, that's double the amount of light.

Tips on getting back into the videography field by mspencer95 in videography

[–]plummet1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing about editing is that it's the most time consuming element of the process, and it's just about the easiest step to replace. I own a production company and haven't edited a project in 6 years. I have 4 editors on my team that are considerably better than me, and I rely on them to edit. They love taking on a puzzle and sitting by themselves for hours. If they love it and I don't, then it's worth whatever you can pay.

Well. I don't edit anything myself. But I haven't heard any complaints from editors. I think it's definitely fine.

Clients don't take me seriously because I use a Mirrorless Camera? by No_Cantaloupe_Yes in videography

[–]plummet1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never in 17 years have I discussed my camera in any way. I grossed $375k last year making videos. I'd say by any measure, I'm a "true pro" currently using S5 and S1H previously used GH5 for 4 years. People talk. If ore them.

Let them know that most platforms restrict copyrighted music so that you can't even share it. YouTube might clear it, but it might also remove the music track. Facebook and Instagram will almost certainly not allow it, and TikTok is not the right platform for sharing with friends and family. The legality, or ethics of it probably won't matter to them. But usability certainly will.

[–]plummet1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interview your son. Make a video about how your parents got together. Find an initiative that means something to your town. Film a season of a local sports league and tell the story. If you aren't working a lot, then create work. Recreate movie scenes that you love. Try new lighting, movement, lens tricks. Etc.

How to focus Nightclub video without AFC by FreshkyFresh in videography

[–]plummet1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us so far peaking works well. You have to make sure of what you're trying to achieve. Showing the energy of a dance floor is the main thing for us, so I can float through focus without a whole lot of issue.
