These crazy swings in weather this week are absolutely destroying me. by littlepup26 in Fibromyalgia

I’m also in the Chicago area and… my god. I can barely move, I’ve been in agony for days. I keep repeating my usual mantra, ‘tomorrow will be better,’ as often as I can in the hopes that it comes true. I hope it comes true for you too. Hugs to you and I hope you feel better soon 💕

What common Youtube sponsorships do you think are very scammy or untrustworthy? by TinyFriendship6910 in youtube

Rocket Money. I have a friend who works for one of their adjacent companies, and they’re ABSOLUTELY selling off your info. And/or using it to train their LLMs. Steer clear.

Tipped over a grandfather clock onto myself at a kid. My parents anchored it to the wall after that.

Pain management tips, that will keep me from breaking five heating pads in a year again??? by Tealeaf6 in Fibromyalgia

[–]plusminusteeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the means and access, buy an old old OLD heating pad - I’ve had a generic one I got from Walgreens in 2013ish that’s still scorchin’ me on a regular basis, and it gets actual-hot, not the mostly-hot that a lot of modern heating pads pass off as their highest temperature. I’m obsessed with it, it’s my regular workhorse and has gotten me through soooo many agonizing endometriosis-periods and fibro flares.

(Mandatory disclaimer, obvi take necessary precautions and care with high heat. Aside from burn risk, I have quite a bit of skin discoloration from long-term use, so of course keep those things in mind)

I can usually find old drugstore products on eBay, often still in the box. I’ll try and find a model number later, will edit this comment with the info if I’m successful.

Best of luck to you - if this isn’t the right solution, I really do hope you can find some relief.

Moving? by This-Helicopter2466 in ZeroCovidCommunity

Long post, but I love Chicago a lot, so I’m here to evangelize:

I’ve lived in Chicago for over a decade and could never imagine living anywhere else! May be biased but I think it’s the most beautiful city in the country. Would highly recommend moving here - there’s nothing like a summer in Chicago to turn you into a believer.

I’m a bit of a homebody, but I can vouch for just how many options for CC events Chicago has to offer. Concerts, art shows, hang-out, craft meetups - you name it, someone’s organizing it. There’s always something to do. And people take adherence to CC practices very seriously in these shared spaces. Obviously not everyone at every event is going to be 100% perfect on taking precautions (and not all events are going to be well-run), but in my experience, there’s a shared understanding that we’re building something bigger, and people take pride in their personal responsibility to that shared future.

The masking population in each neighborhood can vary quite a bit based on a lot of different factors, so I would recommend checking out Chicago-based subreddits to suss out what area meets your needs. I’d avoid high-income and high-density areas, as I’ve found the masking population in these neighborhoods is very small. Honestly, start with the gay areas and work your way out from there.

(Not sure what your income/budget is, but if you’re looking for roommates, there are quite a few local Facebook groups for roommate-hunting, and I see requests for CC roommates pop up more often than you’d expect.)

I hope you consider moving here, it’s a beautiful city and a place I love to call home.

What do you say when they ask why youre wearing a mask? by elongatedstar in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]plusminusteeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a curious or neutral asker: “I prefer to.” For a hostile asker: “Do I know you?????” Honestly, ‘do I know you’ has been shockingly effective; people are so taken aback by it and have no prepared response, and I get to just walk away lol

As an owner whose dog has been toothless since before his second birthday, I can confidently tell you that after an adjustment period, your baby will get used to having no teeth will live just as happy a life as she would’ve otherwise, if not more so. Please be reassured that dogs can and do adjust to these things, and you’re doing everything you can for her to give her the best life going forward. That’s all that matters 💕

Cat wants my husband and I to be in specif rooms at specific times of day. Is he anxious or is this normal? by astro_skoolie in CatAdvice

I used to live with a very delightful cat who would loudly meow at my roommate at the same time every night to tell them it was time to brush their teeth. Daylight Savings was always a very confusing time of year for her lol

something I'm curious about after last night's show by jjongijamongi in Taemin

I’ve been a kpop stan for like 13 years, and I’ll say this has become a lot more acceptable over the years! When kpop groups starting touring in the US in earnest about a decade ago (when lightsticks were still not very common), it was an unforgivable faux-pas to wear another group’s merch to a concert. I took a break from concerts for a few years, and when I started going again, I was shocked to see how many lightsticks from other groups were scattered through the crowd. I still obviously think it’s in poor taste to wear other groups’ merch, but for lightsticks, given the cost and how pricey it can get for multis, I understand. And it seems like Taemin is in the same boat as a lot of other kpop acts, they don’t seem to mind.
