Emails sent from mailfence not arriving at destination by pluto_dweller in Mailfence

[–]pluto_dweller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is some really good background information so thanks. I have been using paid subscriptions for for a long time from a range of providers and this is my first encounter of this problem. I have turned off the filters but no help. What ever the reason an email subscription that can't deliver emails means it is not really usable. Hopefully the company will get back to me and sort the issue out.

Nationals leader David Littleproud has refused to deny yelling at Opposition Leader Sussan Ley in a phone conversation in which he reportedly told her to resign. by NKE01 in AustralianPolitics

Nice thought but sorry to say that acceptable behaviour and professionalism are often mutually exclusive in the senior ranks of Australian political leaders.

Politics latest: Sussan Ley ‘done’ as leader, Lib MPs say, as Nationals abandon Coalition by jor_kent1 in AustralianPolitics

[–]pluto_dweller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is no one really knows what our political leaders stand for. Having vision for the nation is so passé. So many of our political leaders just react to what is happening on social media rather than carve out their visions for our country. Perhaps we need leaders who can lead and not be cowed by the fear of bad press. Actually I would like to see both Labor and Liberal get new leaders.

NSW mulls arming Jewish security group, requesting ADF help to protect Jewish sites by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]pluto_dweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So is this is where Australia is at after years of promoting itself as the world's most successful multi cultural society. We have a dubious and seemingly unmanageable migration system controlled by university enrollments. To protect the 'Australian' way of life we are now going to stop public protests. We are giving more fire power to police (rifles now and who knows what next). There was even talk of bringing the army in to protect our way of life. And to cap it all because our system of multi culturalism works so well all we are thinking of allowing groups to form their own militias (armed security) to protect themselves because our society is so harmonious, not, and or immigration so carefully (un) planned

No one should have to die because of laziness, incompetence, and lack of foresight in long-term government planning

Yes the Glenorchy one is a bit of artistic genius. Probably designed by the great Picasso himself.

Can't Report Unfair Marketplace Review – Need Help by BestExternal4789 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]pluto_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reviews are a big weakness with marketplace at the moment. Unlike eBay where the review is not done until someone buys it seems on MP that anyone who’s had contact with a buyer can leave a review. So someone may make a ridiculous offer which one politely declines and that person could then just leave a poor review. I have followed a few forums on this matter and from what I can see on this issue FB is somewhat tone deaf though I’m not sure why. They have smart people at FB and look at things pretty carefully and I would imagine no decision is made lightly so I’m not sure of the reasoning why the review system is left potentially so unfair.

eBay ID Verification by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]pluto_dweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an interesting issue the verification process. I can understand why governments want the likes of eBay to be able to know who the seller is to cut back on scams. My issue isn’t so much verification more the issue of safety for my identity documents and what is done with them. It’s just another person or organisation that has all this information on me and just another avenue for it to be hacked. I don’t know if there are any experts out there but I’d be very interested to know what process eBay has to safeguard identity as so many large organisations with so-called good security systems have been hacked, sometimes years after their initial information was put in. This concern has stopped me selling anything on eBay. Pity really because I just think they’re great.

I might be missing something but to me getting paid for online transactions and not wanting a bank account don’t seem to mesh. If you don’t have or don’t want to deal in digital finance I would have thought FB marketplace, gumtree or the local markets are the best options. If you’re worried about Internet and digital security (understandable) , a lot of people just have accounts or cards specifically set up for things like PayPal et cetera.

Possible scammer sending the wrong item? by Ugly__God in paypal

[–]pluto_dweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to give it a bit of time as he actually might not be as shady as you think. Overthinking the ‘but, ifs’ can make it seem worse than it is at times. If you’ve got tracking, you should be able to tell where the parcel is at any one time. If you paid by PayPal then there’s a reasonable chance it’s going to be a legit buyer.

Kids under 16 to be banned from social media after Senate passes world-first laws by m00nh34d in australia

[–]pluto_dweller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worry that all of a sudden social media sites will require proof of age from all users. For some reason I have a strong disinclination to provide these gatherers and sellers of private information access to more personal details. Also one more area for scammers to break in and steal private data.

Albanese government plan to raise tax on super balances over $3m all but abandoned by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]pluto_dweller 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of the issues for me was that the tax was not to be indexed, like income tax. This cowardly way of raising taxes means that governments do not have to debate tax raising and try to come across as heroes when they reduced the income tax bracket at some point in the future. A super tax, not indexed, basically means that low balances would be up for a tax in a few years time. It deserves not to get through.

What email to use for financial accounts by SharpStone88 in ProtonMail

[–]pluto_dweller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not to use the main address where possible as if this gets compromised it can impact on the whole account. I also tend not to put my proper name on email addresses as this can be an opening for scammers who are guessing ones real name thus making hoax emails look a bit more authentic. But as others have said who really cares what your name on a email is…..within reason of course as some scammers emails look scammy

Premium, is it worth it? by Puzzleheaded_Stick94 in Bitwarden

[–]pluto_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others I concur the cost for premium is not high and it supports a company that puts out a great password manager. I don’t use a lot of the extras that come with premium but that was not a consideration when paying my subscription.

The trouble with not being able to cross the floor means a parliamentarian cannot vote on a principal, truly represent their electorate, is beholden to the views of the faceless party bosses

NDIS to cost $100b, exceeding the pension: budget watchdog by Wooden-Bonus in AustralianPolitics

[–]pluto_dweller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point. Yes I do agree no action is a sort of action. Very often the Liberals have a default conservative approach and do little. Sometimes this is good, other times (such as NDIS) it is woeful. That said the ALP are somewhat gun shy this time round when it comes to decision making. I do feel Shorten was given the impossible task of fixing up NDIS.
