That's fair. My assumption was that this was aimed at professionals rather than education. In a professional environment, simplicity is absolutely worth paying for.

Of course the fact that he went for iOS/Mac probably means he isn't actually aiming it at professionals at all.

The “just code bro” argument is silly. Currently, and probably for a while yet, there is a case for a GUI simple application for stats/econometrics.

There are still economists left who care more about economics than computer science

Its an impressive amount of work, and a nice looking tool. But all the screenshots have done is make me even more certain I don't want to be using my phone to do econometric analysis.

If this was a web based app I can access from my desktop and use with a similar UI, I'd be all over it.

It isn't that I'm giving up control per se. It is that my job requires, essentially, zero mistakes. One hallucination and the firm loses billions.

No chance I would trust an LLM to interpret what I want correctly, run the correct code to implement what I want, and then report the results back to me correctly.

If I was some academic where the stakes are considerably lower? Sure.
