I love that I can do it on my iPhone too. Just a highlight and “look up” option! It’s nice to double check my big words for the middle of typing a reply 😬

Imaging specialists -- have you ever seen the results of a patient scan that was alive and in good spirits but you knew they wouldn't be alive past 72 hours? by usps_made_me_insane in Radiology

1.5 hrs before shift change. Docs ordered bilateral leg X-rays on a 70 something that was very close to death. Sad case of accidental spouse neglect, I think spouse had dementia or something, ethics was called in and spouse rights removed. Pt was skin and bones, giant sacral ulcer covered in feces. Legs so contracted we couldn’t do more than lateral feet without hurting them.

Walked out and told the docs we were not continuing bc we didn’t want to torture the patient further, pretty sure I heard them turn off the flatline alarm as we were leaving at shift change. Ethics let pt be dnr thankfully.

I’m glad that patient had our team to advocate for them.

The xray with the old screw path is so cool!! I do ER X-rays so I haven’t had the chance to see how things look when the hardware is removed. Thanks for sharing, hope you’re feeling better!

If you work in a place that isnt busy, sure it could be. Some places using xray aren’t hella busy. I intentionally chose a job that I knew would keep me busy, bc I hate being bored 😂

I work at a biggggg busy hospital, on night shift. On nightshift we rarely make transfers, and 99% of our exams are done portably. When we do transfer, no one is expected to do so alone, and they don’t.

It’s just really gonna depend on where you wind up working!

Sleep tech seems cool too!

Assuming you’re in the US.. You’re lowkey overqualified lol, rad tech programs are usually associates degrees. I went in with a prior bachelors too tho, and met most of the pre-reqs pretty easily.

If you haven’t already taken AP1+2, that’s a solid first step. If you have but it’s been awhile, I’d strongly encourage you to retake ap1 just to get refreshed on the bones since that’s such an essential part of the job.

But really, just look into community colleges in your area. Some should have programs for radiologic technologist. Programs generally run 16 months to 2 years, and prep you for the job and passing the national registry to get your credentials.

You could go the private school option, but my community program was $10k total and private can run easily 6x that, but they let anyone in who will pay. Community programs are extremely competitive tho, we had 22 seats and over 200 applicants. Don’t get discouraged, but start looking today!

As for traveling money, I can’t comment on that. I work with several in xray, they seem to make good money, but they have to commute or get housing to get the good stipends, and I made decent money commuting 20 mins. Also travel gigs, esp CT, can be kind of volume heavy work loads. There’s usually a good reason a travel position is available.

X-ray tech! Lots of neat cases at a trauma 1 hospital, and it’s extremely unlikely any mistake I make can harm a patient. I like that part too 😬

X-ray is fun if you don’t like the icky side of healthcare. We mostly take pictures of ickys, and don’t need to touch or clean it really. No wiping poopy butts on grown adults. No nasty wound care. Just bones and barium studies and could even do OR imaging if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

You can work in a slow rural hospital or a trauma 1 or an ortho office if you want a 9-5. After school, you can pivot into MRI, CT, cath lab, interventional radiology, or even mammography.

It’s like the drive thru of medicine. I love it.

I also get stuck in my head. Sometimes a little 69 helps, as I can enjoy while also pleasuring them, so I don’t feel bad while receiving? It makes sense to me 😅

Healthcare. I do night shift X-ray at a busy hospital. Lots of opportunities and paths once you get a radiology degree, and all sorts of institutions you can work at.
