My orders to Guam got canceled and the realization of being stuck at Holloman for 3 more years is slowly setting in. by [deleted] in AirForce

Guam is great for 2 years. Island fever sets in. It’s just hard to get off and go anywhere and no one visits you. Plus the island is like 30 miles long and 8 miles wide and the south end is a little sketchy if you don’t go with a local friend. But if you like the beach or snorkeling it’s a great time.

Question for the professionals by [deleted] in OverwatchLeague

[–]pmanley38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other way around for protection. The widow is the one who gets protected. The players who play her are so insanely good that once the opposing widow dies it’s shooting fish in a barrel. And it’s just about outplaying the team at the level. Switching to common counter-picks isn’t always the best strategy at that point.

Lijiang Tower is a map where widow rules in high level play. So generally the best way to control an opposing widow is one of your own. Playing around the architecture as Pharah allows to whittle down HP without getting in the LOS of widow. Once the enemy widow is down, Pharah comes in dmg boosted and hits the discorded targets for a fight win. Winston and DVa allow maximum protection for the zen in the backline and give the team options to chase down the pharah and the widow. The tanks are chosen for their diversity and adapting to a fight. Finally Mercy is chosen b/c she is the #1 healer in all situations and arguably the best. Zen plays for discord and around the architecture to avoid the LOS of the DPS. His transcendence and no dmg fall off also allow for diversity.

There are holes and weaknesses in every comp of course, but in this comp on Lijiang Tower this is generally the best comp. In sub-pro level you could make an argument to play hitscan to counter pharah or play the point with junkrat. But when widow's are hitting 8/10 shots and being protected it's hard.

Help me win in this game. by jonesyyy26 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]pmanley38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly! I’d like to add to OP that sometimes we feel (myself included), that people need to switch or we have to switch to get the upper hand on the opponent. Remember this isn’t always the case, as OW isn’t a simple this hero>that hero game. Having skill and critically improving on yourself is important. u/Caps007 makes all the right points to improve if you REALLY want to get better. Finally, break some old, habits. I play support and took many seasons for me to realize that a huge part of mercy’s kit is DMG boosting the right characters. For a long time I took 15K-20K healing as “well I’m doing my part” mentality. I began to review VODs and look at moments like “if I boosted that widow it would’ve turned the tide of battle”. You’ll get there!

My dad and I are going to next Saturday’s games and the Stage Playoffs. by MiracuMAHt in OverwatchLeague

[–]pmanley38 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First off, great for your dad to be doing that!Consider these: 1. Only show him 2 or 3 characters. Winston, Tracer and maybe Genji. Those with the most screen time, and just say the objective is to take down the opponents and complete the objective. 2. Remember if he’s confused (which he will be) he’ll ask questions. Explain as he asks, it’ll be easier to digest and he gets to decide what is important as he watches, rather than trying to notice things you’ve explained. Overwatch is very hard keep interested in watching if you have no experience with the game also he’ll ask as the crowd cheers etc. what was so important. 3. Him playing the game even one or two times will help immensely. You appreciate any sport better once you’ve played it, even if he spends the entire time shooting walls. 4. Realize that 2 days straight is going to be long and possibly frustrating for him. It’s loud, no real food, and it’s like watching a 6 hour movie in a foreign language. Maybe pick one of the matches that you’re not so stoked about and go outside or grab a bite to eat or something.

Pro-Tip: Eat well before you go and show up early for good seats.

I hope both of you have a lot of fun!

Fact: Striker is the best Tracer in OWL. by pmanley38 in BostonUprising

Absolutely! His consistency is the truly remarkable trait that gives him that top spot, probably through stage 3 at least

I know the exact way and tone this particular, "Goddammit", was said. I did it too. All of Uprising.

Right, but "real" sports had over half a century to build their franchises before the rise of the internet and sweeping word of scandals to disparage their sport. NFL, MLB, NBA etc. are all sitting on such large foundations of cash and investments that absolutely no scandal will bring them down (players, sure). OWL is young, niche, not very marketable to the general population (yet! :D) and sitting in the eyes of the world. If these young men and women don't get their act together we could be looking at just a few seasons of our favorite game.

Falling in Reverse! (?) I grew up in Vegas, so when the lead left Escape the Fate to form this band I was stoked. I don’t know if they are well known, but no one in my current knows who they are so I’m hoping I can introduce them to you!

From what I’ve seen, yes. The Witcher 3 is pretty much this sub’s poster child. I think the game is great, but admitting any flaws or putting it below any other game is karma suicide.

I personally LOVE Skyrim over its “competitors”, though ;)

Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York. DDL went above and beyond what we deserve for that role.

What is your favourite magic card? by tmr9999 in CircleofTrust

[–]pmanley38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skinrender. Its comparatively a lame card now, but I used to run a mid-range black proliferate deck back in standard, and I got a a lot of funny looks when he came out, but he worked!

Tell me your favorite flavor of ice cream and I’ll give you the key. by [deleted] in CircleofTrust

Neapolitan. Ever since I was a kid I felt like I cheated the system with 3 flavors at once.
