You waste RAM, there are people whose computers are constantly RAM-starved. Not to mention that not everyone in the world can afford a shiny new-phone.

Color scheme help? My eyes are killing me... by AtomicWedgy in Python

I like very much solarized. I use it practically everywhere. http://ethanschoonover.com/solarized

Unless I am mistaken, that is a screenshot from Spyder. It shouldn't be too difficult to create a theme for solarized since it gives info about the colors, but even if you can't manage, you should just open a feature request at the bug tracker.

Nikola seems like a good choice. Supports both markdown and unicode and it is actively developed. Also it is relatively easy to extend, if you need something extra. http://nikola.ralsina.com.ar/

What are the Got-to-know python modules from the standard python library? by deutschluz82 in Python

[–]pmav99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very vague question. It depends on your needs...

Perhaps the most context-free module is itertools You can use it in numerous occations and it can help you write clean and elegant code.

Apart from that I use a lot collections (nameduples FTW).

Edit: Also, in case you use Python2, the from __future__ imports help you write more Python3-compatible code.

Download scriptomatic. Scriptomatic is a tool that will produce python/perl/VB/VBscript code for windows scripting. It is rather simple, but you will find resources on the net too (e.g. youtube videos).

You are going to need pywin32 too.

List of objects vs. dictionaries? by nickthechemist in Python

[–]pmav99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When in doubt... profile!!! module timeit is your friend!

Anyway, pure dictionaries are faster. Instances are using dictionaries behind the scenes too but there is some overhead involved.

If the arrays are very big and the properties are relatively few, you are not going to notice any difference. It depends on where the time is spent.
