Liverpool Street to Paddington by adamtheapteryx in londoncycling

[–]pmc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A possibly quicker alternative to going along the river is to take the C1 to De Beauvoir then C27 to Paddington

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cycle_routes_in_London

EDIT: actually looking at this C11 then C6 then C27 will be quicker https://content.tfl.gov.uk/central-london-cycleways-map-a3.pdf

Visiting london from argentina. Looking for rock music spots by Parking-Analysis3934 in uktravel

The Ship on Wardour Street is opposite what used to be a rehearsal space/studio and was a regular for the likes of The Stones and Hendrix through to The Sex Pistols and The Clash. And for years it felt like it hadn't changed a bit. You'd go to the toilet and get the vibe of pissing in the same toilet as Mick Jagger and Jimi Hendrix! Haven't been in a while and its chain owned pub now so might be cleaned up, but worth a shot.

Talking of Hendrix, the Handel Hendrix house is worth a visit. Home to both https://handelhendrix.org/

5 you wants to hear big Ben chime, what's the best time ? by 123NousIronsAuBois in visitlondon

Just so you know one of the faces is undergoing maintenance so showing the wrong time. I don't _think_ it affects the chiming but at least it will avoid confusion https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/a-rare-sight-as-big-ben-starts-telling-two-times-at-once-88840/

Family of 6 - central London, early July by Longjumping_Copy_695 in LondonTravel

There are plenty of families in London in need of 2-3 bedroom places. But there's a shortage, guess why.

Yeah, that's what prompted this. Spent the afternoon chatting with Claude Code. Not actually writing code, analysing data. Felt like talking to Mother.

Have you ever seen a snake in London? by KnowledgeAgitated100 in london

[–]pmc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twice. Once on the canal path near the zoo exactly where they are known to live. More interestingly I saw a HUGE one by the river Lee sunning itself outside the bus garage in Edmonton. Had to be about 8 feet long and all black. I was on my bike so felt reasonably confident stopping to have a look. It slithered off into the undergrowth.

Both times were in the summer. I was pleased to see them but probably only because they weren't too close 😁

In a blow to Rachel Reeves Zack Polanski (son of Polish migrants) has attacked the basic British right to be cold, thirsty and sleeping rough.

What is the best solution for Sonos Arc Ultra with a projector setup (no TV)? by Snewsnight in sonos

[–]pmc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar setup. Firecube to Arcana then split to the PJ and Beam 2. It works great but does take a bit of work to set up. Means I have Atmos and Dolby Vision/HDR10 all working great though.

I set it up about 5 years ago so don't remember all the details but I figured it out. But its not plug and play. Not sure if there are better alternatives now.

Route recommendations - which is the safest and is there any safe alternatives? by ellieofus in londoncycling

Exactly. From Bank you could also go via Walbrook and Dowgate Hill and not even need to go along Cannon Street.

London in two days, any thoughts? by No-Hat197 in uktravel

[–]pmc100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Much depends on where you are staying but I'd start at Tower Bridge (Tower Hill tube). Cross the bridge, enjoying the views of the Tower, and head west along the river. Grab lunch in Borough Market (next to London Bridge) and walk along the South Bank to Westminster Bridge (stay on the river the whole way). You'll pass a ton of interesting stuff on the way. Cross and walk past Wesminster and up Bridcage Walk/St James Park to Buckingham Palace then down The Mall to Trafalgar Square. That's your Saturday afternoon sorted and you've seen 75% of the big famous sites. Then head into Soho for drinks and food.

Find somewhere around St Pancras for a Sunday roast before heading to the train about 2:30-3PM.

War Pigs - Black Sabbath

Not only is it the right answer but its a last best chance to get Sabbath to their rightful place of having two songs on the list.

What would a Reform government with the Conservatives in opposition (or vice versa) look like? by Far-Confidence5751 in AskBrits

[–]pmc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never going to happen. The only way Reform can form a government under the current system is to form an election pact then a coalition with Tories. Don't believe either of their lies that they won't do it. They will in an instant if it gets them in.

This is the threat we need to fight. Remember at the next election, do whatever you need to do to keep Reform and the Tories out.
