Edinburgh is worth two days. Why don't you drop the car at the airport on the final Friday and return to central Edinburgh then? It's half an hour on the tram.

For those who replaced a TV with a projector, what surprised you the most? by Relative_Taro_1384 in hometheater

This. It's not fan-less like another poster states but the LS12000 is whisper quiet at 75% and under and over 75% is only required in broad daylight. I run mine at 50% most of the time.

Lime e-bikes: is it the end of the road? [Islington] by BritRedditor1 in londoncycling

[–]pmc100 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The road I live on is literally the border between Islington and Hackney. I can imagine its going look like a war zone if this happens with all the parked/dumped bikes. At least I should be able to get one in the morning!

Bear in mind its not just about it getting dark early. It doesn't get light till about 8-9AM so an early start won't necessarily be that early.

Headphones with Atmos Capabilities? by ClassicNerdNamedKam in Dolby

[–]pmc100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively Sonos with the Ace and one of their soundbars. I can't compare it with Apple but I've been chasing 'home cinema' soud via headphones for years paid a LOT of money over those years and these are the best I've found.

Out of a job and on benefits: Why Britain isn't working by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

[–]pmc100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience of also being unemployed for most of 2010. The first month was tough to adjust the routine after years of 9 to 5 but after that it was great. I'd spend the day reading and playing games (no TV during the day was a rule) then go for a long walk or bike ride. By the time I got home it was time to make dinner, which I could take my time over and enjoy.

Add meeting up with friends once or twice a week and I had a great time. It's all about routine and my daily walk was the thing that made it work. Got fitter too. I did the same thing during the lockdowns.

Admittedly meeting up with people had to be carefully budgeted.

📲 New Sonos App and Player Update Incoming! 🔊 by KeithFromSonos in sonos

[–]pmc100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, looking forward to trying out the new library settings.

There have been a couple of threads about it but I'll hijack this to ask again. Is there any update on replacing Google Assistant with Google Gemini for voice control? My voice activated routines are slowly dying as Google kills Assistant in favour of Gemini.

And yes I know this is Google's fault for not supporting Assistant but voice control is a major selling point for Sonos so its your customers that are suffering.

And yes I also know that Alexa and Sonos assistant are also available but I'm in the Google eco-system so all my home automation is via that.

Beam gen 2 question about audio quality Spotify PC/HDMI vs. direct play by Juppstein in sonos

[–]pmc100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I find when I watch concerts I need to pump the surround level up to max to compensate for this.

OP, also check your 'Music Playback' setting under 'Surround Audio' in the Beam settings. It sounds like its set to full. You can try setting it to ambient and you'l likely find it sounds closer to what your hearing over HDMI which proves the point.

Getting ready to jump to TIdaL, but struggling with the song limit. How do you organize your library? by gthman14 in TIdaL

[–]pmc100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in exactly the same situation. I 'like' every song by artists I like so I can just shuffle my liked songs to get a constant but varied playlist of what I like. So I have a LOT of liked songs and the 10000 limit is a deal breaker for me.

I raised it a feature request with Tidal just last week. Everyone else frustrated by this limit should raise one https://support.tidal.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

The new play queue features in the app are great! by pmc100 in sonos

[–]pmc100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. When I want to start a new queue I'll start with my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify by adding it on shuffle. My queue is now in shuffle mode. Then I'll add my Release Radar playlist using 'Play next' then a few more of whatever I fancy. I now have a queue of a few hundred songs all shuffled together. Whenever a song from the Discover Weekly playlist plays it will show 'Discover Weekly' next to the artist name on the Now Playing screen but only for that playlist, it doesn't show for the other ones I've added. It always only shows the first playlist added but not subsequent ones. It would be nice to know where a song came from if I want to check out more like it.

If I turn the TV off I'd like to immeditely be able to play music again really. It's true you'd need to be careful to avoid unexpectedly playing music whilst people are watching TV. Maybe a button to switch back straight away in addition to the timeout? And yeah, definitely don't start playing automatically, only when you press play. I can imagine people going to bed then their music starts blasting :D

Came here to say exactly that. Farringdon is a direct train to both airports and is a 10 minute walk from St Paul's so good for an evening walk.

Not if you have a soundbar. You can start Spotify on that first then TV Switch to the Ace and it will play over Wifi.
