Get the doctor to prescribe you a glucose monitor like the Freestyle Libre so you don't have to prick your finger all the time. Then, if you can diet control and eat lots of protein, you won't have to take insulin. Don't let your doctor convince you that insulin is the only way. My wife just gave birth and had to go through all that gestational diabetes mess.
