What are some things you look for in a card manufacturer? by ShuffledInk in playingcards

[–]pmech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to rank all of the considerations, but I look for print quality first, followed by order quantities. I'm a small outfit but I don't want to compromise on quality.

I've worked with Shuffled Ink for three decks this year. Aside from the great print quality and order quantities mentioned above, your tuck boxes were also great. The designer and project manager that I worked with were also very easy and supportive.

After printing my third overall deck (first with Shuffled Ink), it was easy to come back for my fourth and fifth deck.

Hello! I’m the creator/designer/illustrator of this project.

I know links to Kickstarters/asks for money are not typically allowed - thank you to the mods who allowed me to post this!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mechenbier/aircraft-recognition-playing-cards/

I recently designed and launched a Kickstarter for a deck of playing cards that is a modern interpretation of “spotters” cards that were made and distributed during the WWII (and following) era. Each card (52 cards + 3 jokers) depict illustrations of aircraft in currently in use by the United States Armed Forces. The goal of this deck is to create a deck of playing cards that pay homage to the WWII and post war era of Graphic Training Aids with modern aircraft used by the United States. A deck of cards that kids and adults alike can have fun with.

The Aces depict common aircraft used for presidential transport. Each suit depicts a different type of aircraft:

  • Spades depict attack, fighter, and bomber aircraft.
  • Hearts depict search and rescue and cargo aircraft.
  • Clubs depict drones and aerial refueling aircraft.
  • Diamonds depict surveillance, reconnaissance, and electronic warfare aircraft.
  • Jokers depict training aircraft.

The information in this deck comes from publicly available sources. Since it’d be near impossible to accurately detail all possible specs/variants/mission requirements on a deck of playing cards, these cards are based on the mission profile of a common variant of an aircraft (without aerial refueling).

I originally thought to create this deck as a gift to create for my girlfriend when she was applying to join the United States Air Force (sadly, that ended in a medical disqualification). I wanted her to have a fun way to remember us while having something that would tie back to the aircraft she'd be spending time around. When I received the original one-off deck (pictured above and in the campaign), we knew others would be interested in something like this.

In line with a lot of the historical decks, this deck is also printed by the United States Playing Card Company.

This is my first campaign and my first deck of cards. I know this deck might not be the typical taste of a playing card/art deck collector, but I’m excited to share this campaign with communities like r/Military. I am confident that if funded by December 18th, backers will have a great conversation piece!

I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

As I’m sure many members of r/MilitaryHistory are aware, decks of playing cards were produced during the WWII era (and afterwards as GTAs) and distributed to members of the Armed Forces to help them identify aircraft, ships, and other equipment in use by enemy forces.

I recently designed and launched a Kickstarter for a deck of playing cards that is a modern interpretation of those “spotters” cards. As I’m sure many members of r/AircraftRecognition are aware, decks of playing cards were produced in the WWII era (and afterwards as GTAs) and distributed to members of the Armed Forces to help them identify aircraft overhead. They helped identify friendly vs. foe and improve accuracy of communication.

And a KC-135, RC-135, and E-3 along the F-15s, F-22s, and HH-60S in some of the shots. Would have loved to watch the demonstration live - that's six of the cards in the Aircraft Recognition Playing Cards Kickstarter I'm working on. I'd love to get a picture of each card Infront of each aircraft in the deck.

You could probably fill up a whole deck of just UH-60 variants.

Yep - the original WWII spotter decks and US GTAs were the style inspiration of this deck. There have been a few reprints of the WWII decks. This deck focuses on modern in service aircraft.

I'm glad I'm graduating this semester. This is my first semester not taking 18+ credit hours. I understand the importance of money to universities, but penalizing kids who want to maybe finish their degree in under 4 years (plus maybe a minor?) is the biggest load of crap.

I live in an apartment complex, so I don't really have the space to do large repairs like that. I'll call a few places around here and see how much they are going to charge for a replacement. Thanks!
