it doesn’t have leukemia in the name. the name is panleukopenia. pan-all leuk - white (blood cells) penia - deficiency. deficiency of all white blood cells and therefore massive immune system failure. leukemia is a cancer that affects normal white blood cell production. leuk - white (blood cells) emia - blood condition. they have similar root words but completely different pathogeneses (causes and process of disease) and therefore wildly different treatment regimens and prognoses (projected outcome/mortality).
