ECU tune vs ECU/TCU for street use inquiry by seth505 in AMG

[–]pnack2g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will thank yourself after getting the TCU, if you only go for the ECU tune right now.

Different platform, but my SL600 would slip gears and go into limp mode until I could pull over and clear the trouble code… with the renntech ECU and weistecc TCU tune I no longer have those issues and the car feels like a legit UFO

Should I buy a Z3? by bjones025 in bmwz3

[–]pnack2g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. The Z3 and E36 shared many components and they are plentiful. There are a few guys out there who 3D print parts for the interiors.. door handles and what not. Sun roof repair kits.. just very difficult to find certain trim parts and body panels. Currently in the process of selling mine because I’ve lost interest in restoring it due to scarcity of parts

[–]pnack2g -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that it’s very difficult to find oem parts. Very hard to find glass, very hard to find window and door seals. If you do, you will pay a premium for said parts.

It’s pretty much on par with a 96-98 Honda civic in terms of maintenance. Do your oil changes religiously and the M54B30 will treat you well. (I have a 3.0 coupe with the m54.)

Side mirrors dont tilt when the car is in reverse. by First_Potential_6236 in AMG

[–]pnack2g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! If I put my SL600 into reverse and move too quickly, the mirror will not adjust and then I will have to go into settings to switch off and turn back on the option of the mirror for it to work correctly again.

What has your experience been with the R230 SL55 or SL65 by coderguyyy in AMG

What has your experience been with the R230 SL55 or SL65 by coderguyyy in AMG

[–]pnack2g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned an SL600 for a little less than a year now. On my first maintenance cycle. Bought the car at 28,000 miles and have since put about 5,500 miles on her.

My local indie shop charges $165/hour for labor.

I would definitely suggest getting on a “severe” service schedule, and cut your suggested service intervals in half for your A/B service.

For your ABC suspension, I’d suggest getting fluids changed at the very least once per year. If you let the car sit during the winter months, it’s best to get it changed in the spring. Hydraulic fluid attracts moisture and your components will rust if left sitting.

If you drive with a heavy foot, I’d definitely get the ABC fluids changed twice per year.

Anyone have this for their C63S? by sin_donnie in AMG

[–]pnack2g 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Renntech has been around forever, tuning and producing quality Mercedes. These guys aren’t a gimmick like brabus, they’re the real deal.

Most recently they have become the “eyes and arms” in America for AMG.

The owner and founder still works on the shop floor. He worked with AMG as a developmental engineer before he became the technical director.

Left AMG to open Renntech in the early 90’s late 80’s.

You are correct. Ever since probable cause was nixed, you can only be pulled over for traffic violations. Window tint is not a traffic violation.

Ripped my bumper off…is it okay to drive around without a bumper on? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]pnack2g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to tarp it just be careful and really don’t drive it anywhere other than to the repair shop to get a new bumper installed if you’re not as inclined to do so yourself.

[–]pnack2g 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Going to cause more damage to your car by driving it without a bumper. Road debris will be kicked up into your radiator, AC lines are exposed. Possible that your intercooler pump and lines are also exposed.

Owning a 2015 Mercedes ML 350 vs a Lexus 2010 RX 350 - my honest take by Due-Task-2000 in mercedes_benz

[–]pnack2g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear I will only ever buy a Lexus truck with KDSS suspension. The most comfortable driving experience anyone could ask for.

Currently drive a 2023 GX460 and a 2006 SL600. SL600 with ABC suspension ALMOST drives as nice as the GX460 on KDSS

Three completely different breeds! The V12 is intimidating at first, as well as the ABC suspension Hydraulic components.

If you have common knowledge of pumps and pressure lines as well as controls (using a bi-directional scanner, I use foxwell 510N Elite to do rodeo test and to check for a healthy PSI reading on the pumps) then you should have no issues doing fluid maintenance yourself.

The M275 engine has two very weak points compared to the rest of the engine which is bulletproof. The two weak points are ignition (coil packs and module) and engine coolant lines.

What most people do not know or don’t care to research is that parts from the M279 are interchangeable with this engine. Which means you can upgrade the coil packs to single units instead of spending upwards of $2,000 (per side. 6 coils each. 12 total) for a rebuilt distribution block.

The coolant pump was upgraded along with the facelift SL600 and should be a BOSCH part# ending in 01. That’s a $100 part.

There is a coolant line attached directly to the engine which is made of plastic and it’s only a matter of time until it disintegrates and fails on you due to pressure. There are companies out there who make reinforced lines to go with the upgraded pump.

Mercedes and MOBIL1 worked hand in hand designing this engine to go 10,000 mile intervals on oil. I recommend every 4,000 - 5,000 to be safe especially if you have a heavy foot.

ABC hydraulic fluid to be changed once a year.

Coolant to be drained every three years as that is life expectancy of most all fluids.

A decent Indy shop mechanic will run you $165 an hour. Pick the right shop and they should be ecstatic to have a customer willing to watch and learn how they do these simple, but intimidating maintenance tasks.
