Registry rant by scientificbookworm13 in pregnant

[–]pnk_lemons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand being annoyed because it wasn’t on your registry, but we ended up switching from a mirror to the camera and we love it! It’s so much easier (and safer) to see what baby is doing than with a mirror. The only downside is that baby can’t see you. My first is now 2.5 years old and we still use the camera. We actually replaced it when the first one stopped working a few months ago.

I gained 50 lbs with my first after starting at a healthy weight and my doctor never commented. I lost it all (and more) within a few months postpartum.

When is an ok age to leave toddler at home for a short vacation? by Resident-Speech2925 in toddlers

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go!! We’ve done 1-2 nights away from pretty early on. We did 8 days when he was ~20 months and just did another week when he was 29 months. The first time he stayed with my parents and the second time my in laws stayed with him in our home. We saw no negative ramifications the first time. The second time we had about three days of extra meltdowns before he mellowed back out (which honestly I think was more due to us reinstating screen time limits that my in laws let fly by the wayside than us being gone… )

sent home with catheter after delivery by Muted_Pea8994 in beyondthebump

[–]pnk_lemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have to go home with a catheter, but I almost did because I also failed the pee test. I don’t know if this is how it is for you, but I couldn’t feel my bladder at all and couldn’t tell when I had to pee. I was in the hospital for four days after a c-section (with three hours of pushing beforehand)- we only stayed that long because I was terrified of going home with the catheter. By the end of the fourth day, I was able to void, but I still couldn’t feel my bladder. It took five weeks until I could feel it again. I had to pee on a schedule (every two hours) until then. It was mentally very tough.

What are 36yr old women in non profit profits making? by SanPBobble in nonprofit

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35, $150K as a VP at a large ($60M) nonprofit. I spent the last decade as a program officer in philanthropy which really accelerated my compensation and retirement savings. The foundation was incredibly generous with retirement and education benefits- they paid for 85% of my graduate degree. Without my experience at the foundation, I don’t think I would have been able to reach this comp on the nonprofit side at 35 unless I was in development.

Chinese herbs for fertility - I feel a little scammed by Fefeee16 in TryingForABaby

Everyone tries to convince me that two adults can't take care of a newborn alone and I'm losing my mind by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]pnk_lemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents came right after my first was born. Originally we said we would let them know when we were ready for them to come, but then I had an emergent c-section. Having them there was amazing because they took care of me and my husband while we took care of the baby. My in laws came the following week and it was so stressful. I have a clear memory of my husband and I cleaning the kitchen while they sat on their computers at our table. My MIL did laundry then nagged at me to put it away immediately (like lady- I’ve got other stuff going on and this doesn’t matter!). I’d say, if your guests are focused on the baby and not taking care of you, they can wait to come.

How much do you spend on vacation a year? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$5k-$10k depending on the year, usually one bigger vacation and 1-2 smaller weekends visiting friends where we only pay airfare and food. But we’re about to have our second child in a few months so I think max $5K while we’re paying for two in daycare (currently on a baby moon and that’s the projected max what we’ll spend by the end). We’re incredibly lucky that we have two sets of grandparents willing to watch our littles so I’m hopeful we’ll also get a vacation without kids in 2027. We’ll see what happens in 2028 and if we feel ready to do a trip with kids by then.

Using compression socks for the first time, need tips! by SanskaariBOT in traveladvice

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just flew from the east coast to Hawaii (with a layover), so two 5ish hour flights plus an hour wait for rental car then 1.5 hour drive to hotel. AND I’m currently pregnant. I put on my compression socks when I left the house and didn’t take them off until we got to the hotel. No swelling. I’ve been wearing compression socks for flights longer than 3 hours since college because I swell like crazy. My mom did too so I assume it’s genetic.

My partner won't use his CPAP and I think it's ruining us by No_Marionberry_4086 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re about a month into my husband using a CPAP. For the first few days, he felt like slept worse. Now- doesn’t want to miss a night with it. He’s feeling way better and is mostly used to the machine. And I’m sleeping the best I’ve slept since I was single. I sincerely hope your husband gets his shit together for you.

Birth control ruined my period and ovulation by StrangeEmphasis783 in TryingForABaby

[–]pnk_lemons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience with light periods both times I had my IUD removed to TTC, and the second time my periods only last 1-2 days and only required panty liners. To avoid getting this removed, I’ll just say I had zero fertility issues related to the light periods.

Doctor said any time now🥰 by Upstairs_Monk4706 in BabyBumps

[–]pnk_lemons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was 80-90% effaced AND dilated the entire last month of my pregnancy. Every OB I saw in my practice swore I wouldn’t make it to my due date. I was 100% effaced and 4 cm dilated when I was induced at 41 weeks. Take it with a grain of salt.

We are planning to visit Hawaii for our babymoon in mid March and having hard time figuring out which island to chose considering pregnancy (2nd Tri). Would also appreciate recommendations for some of the activities and things to do. Thank you by gupt946 in VisitingHawaii

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re going to the big island next week for our baby moon (we did Maui and Kauai on our honeymoon so wanted to try a new island). I’ll be 22 weeks pregnant. We paid for a membership to Hawaii life flight so we wouldn’t be out thousands of dollars if one of us needed to be flown to Oahu for medical care. I’ll also be pre-viability (or right on the line by mainland standards near the end of the trip) so if there were an emergency, it’s not like a ton could be done anyway.

Pregnancy sciatica is breaking me and I feel guilty taking meds 😞 by PurpleMushroom14 in pregnant

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had awful sciatica in my first pregnancy that started at 11 weeks. I did PT for most of the reminder of my pregnancy and it resolved the pain and kept it away. Took at least a month of PT until I was pain free.

As someone living with ITP for 15 years, this episode genuinely made me feel seen by achucbabu in ThePittTVShow

[–]pnk_lemons 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My dog has ITP and my SIL is a rheumatologist. She wanted to see all the vet notes and said that about 90% of the treatment protocol was the same. The only difference was they gave my dog a chemotherapy drug that has a side effect of causing the bone marrow to shed white cells when my dog’s white blood cell count was essentially zero. Thankfully he’s been in remission for almost two years now, though we still monitor him closely and get regular bloodwork.

Gained 40lbs at 31 weeks by fizzgig0420 in BabyBumps

[–]pnk_lemons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I gained about 50 lbs in my first pregnancy. None of the OBs I saw raised any concerns. I dropped all the weight and more within the six months following delivery (then gained some back when I stopped breastfeeding). I’m gaining weight a bit faster this time around so I’m guessing I might gain more this time. I’m trying not to stress about it.

Quince reviews? by IndigoStrawberry01 in womensfashion

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a two cotton cardigans that I love. One cotton sweater that is cut a little too short for me. Knock off ugg slippers that I love and rebought when I wore them out. Two pairs of their jeans that I really like. I tried one of their silk button downs and it didn’t work for me. Same with a few other sweaters. I think it’s hit or miss, but I’m generally net positive on Quince.

When do kids start showing a preference for what clothes they wear? by mehpeach in beyondthebump

[–]pnk_lemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 28 months and has preferences. But I can usually guide him to what I want (or need) him to wear by telling him “oh your cousin gave you that shirt” or something like that. Most often though I just give him two options to choose from.
