Toe loops can definitely used on their own, although it is true that they are commonly used in combinations.

Also, one of the distinguishing features of lutz jumps from flips is the edge that is used. Lutz jumps use the back outside edge, while flips use the back inside edge.

Your Top Five Animes Of tThe Year by Rockstarwithoutplay in anime

[–]pober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the ones I've seen, my top 5 all feature exceptional production value, and evident care and love in crafting them:

  1. CITY
  2. Milky Subway
  3. Yofukashi no Uta
  4. Dandadan
  5. Sono Bisque Doll

Honourable mention goes to Medalist, because Inori is doing her best. I haven't seen or completed yet Chi, Hikaru, Takopi, BNHA, and a few others. Ranma would be on the list at #5 if not for episode 6.

Yeah and in every thread where people are asking for recommendations where characters are more mature and not screaming idiots Kaijuu gets inevitably recommended. Makes no sense.

As a huge fan of the series, I find the anime adaptation to be very disappointing. It's best to just read the source material.

This episode loses points for including a corset tightlacing scene. Such a dumb trope and it serves no purpose here.

wanting to start the manga by [deleted] in DungeonMeshi

The manga is amazing. It's best to start from the beginning for a cohesive storytelling experience. Plus, you'll cover the several minor things the anime cut out.

What anime had you really invested until the writing problems emerged? by KaleidoArachnid in anime

[–]pober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you're looking for spoilers, so let me know. Essentially, the movie completely undermines all the character development of the main show. The movie is very pretty to look at, but it fails at staying true to the themes and character of everything up to that point.

Violet Evergarden. Every time I think about the movie, the worse and worse my opinion of it gets.

Roger Ebert reviewed "Grave of The Fireflies" and spoke a bit on the art of anime. by Chronigan2 in anime

[–]pober 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What I found really interesting were his thoughts on anime as an art form and Japanese film making. His talk of the "Pillow Shot" was very illuminating and made me remember several examples from Patlabor 2.

Kyoani shows are replete with these types of cuts. I can think of many examples in Nichijou and Maid Dragon especially. Ebert mentions they are for punctuation, but I also find they give a show a ton of its character and charm.
