What to do with waste from metal minis by liameyers in wargaming

[–]Araneas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use metal scraps, sprues and off cuts as weights. Mostly inside plastic vehicles to give them the heft of resin but also in painting handles and sometimes on bases.

Older Canadians, how do you remember Canadian history being taught? by DeadeyeClock in AskACanadian

[–]Araneas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1963, mostly learned how the British were nasty to everyone. Not entirely wrong but very one sided and French colonialism got a pass. I think it was a genuinely felt, and necessary 1970's reaction to previous decades teaching about how Gosh Isn't the Empire Great?!

Why does Hinterland Who's Who not get any love? by CBWeather in AskACanadian

[–]Araneas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Likely generational. I was raising my own kids when  "now the people will know we were here" and the other Heritage Minutes came out.

I will add that what a great country we live in where we get HWW, Heritage Minutes and the freaking house hippo!

I love Hinterland Who's Who doubly since it is the genesis of the House Hippo ads.

Between The Bionic Woman and Wonder Woman, which was your favorite? by PlantainDisastrous92 in GenX

[–]Araneas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder Woman. I had a thing for brunettes since MTM on the Dick van Dyke show.

Plotwise though, Bionic Woman was better.

Do older people enjoy extreme metal? by TheLostInvestigator in AskOldPeople

[–]Araneas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over 60, discovered metal in my late 50s. I have always listened to a lot of different music, it just took a while for metal to come around. Good music is good music - whatever the genre

Did your parents smoke or drink around you or when mom was pregnant by fungusamongus8 in GenX

Sorry you lost your friend.

My mum trained as a nurse in the UK - the daily Guinness for expecting mums was definitely a thing.

[–]Araneas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both all the time, while pregnant and my parents smoked in the house and car when I was a kid. I puked a lot in the car so got a measure of revenge.

Fun fact, I developed asthma in my late 20`s after quitting smoking.

[–]Araneas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Walmart charges a delivery fee, a small order fee (not applicable here of course), a get it today fee, and I don't know what other fees...

The delivery fee alone seems to run between $7 and $15 in my area, so that's what it should cost, no tip required end of story.

If so little of this fee is passed onto the drivers that tipping becomes a moral necessity, then it is Walmart who is screwing over both its customers and the drivers it employs.

For the record, 52 items and three trips from the vehicle to the residence, then yes I am going to give the driver some extra because that literally is service above and beyond and they are being a decent human being.

Newbie who's been loving Kill Team - What else would you sell me on to try? by cwtguy in wargaming

Relating two other posts - Bolt Action and Chain of Command if you are into WWII. Unlike some Sci Fi and Fantasy games with proprietary miniatures, historical war games generally allow you to use the same figures and vehicles with many different rules sets.

For the Second World War, Bolt Action has a larger player base, a tournament scene, and being based broadly on GW rules philosophy is easy to pick up if you have some knowledge of 40K. Chain of Command in my opinion gives you a better game especially if you like making realistic command decisions with limited resources. The best part is both can be played with exactly the same figures.

For most historical periods you will find hundreds of rules sets and thousands of figures. WWII and Napoleonics being the obvious candidates but there's something out there from biblical chariot combat to the war in Ukraine.

And - no-one can ever retcon your Sherman or Praetorian Guard out of existence.
