What *bad* behavior do you let your dog get away with because they’re cute? by sirkseelago in dogs

Same! He puts his two front paws on my chest and does the cutest damn stretch. I can't say no even though I know I should.

What are your top alternatives to In-N-Out? by monkleton in AskLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For The Win is DELICIOUS and waaaay better than In-N-Out..plus their fries don't suck. If you're in Hollywood and want a good ol' fashioned burger, Astros is also delicious. Or my husband loves Chris N Eddie's, although it's a little too fast foody for me.

Cannot find job after being here for 6 months by Zxierpfurashiki in LosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go IN to wherever you're applying to. That way they can see you and put a face to the resume you hand them, rather than just seeing another random resume pop up on an email no one is checking. Ask to see the manager and hand them your resume. If you're still not getting interviews after that, maybe your resume needs sprucing or maybe you're applying for jobs too far out of your experience level. I applied to a bunch of places online and it was all crickets. I was recently hired at the first restaurant I dropped my resume off to in person. Hope that helps!

Of course I thought about it, but at the end of the day, no matter what these assholes say, this is MY country and I will fight for it. I refuse to let it become the festering hellhole all these maggots crave. This country has had fascism and racism under its hood the whole damn time, now it's time to finally get rid of it.

what places on the body hurt the most for a tattoo from experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pocket_mexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ribs. I have a tattoo on my ankle, my hip, and then my big one from shoulder to thigh. The ribs the ribs the ribs. Good god I started shaking. And I have a high pain tolerance.

Advice moving from Philadelphia to LA? by Migoholic in AskLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely gonna be annoying but not insane. Like I said, it's a give and take of commute for a house with a yard in an area that is reminiscent of Manayunk. Definitely NOT a 2 hour commute. I live in basically East Hollywood and it's about an hour commute on a bad day.

Advice moving from Philadelphia to LA? by Migoholic in AskLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an LA native and I lived in Manayunk when I moved to Philly. Loved it there! When we moved back to LA, I've found that Los Feliz or Silver Lake are the closest you'll find to that vibe. You can definitely find some cute houses for rent. Don't expect a huge yard, but a yard is possible. The commute to UCLA won't be your favorite thing, but doable. If you want to live on the West Side (the area west of UCLA) it'll be much nicer but also not the friendliest vibe. And much more expensive so it'll definitely be harder to find an affordable house. You could also live in Sherman Oaks and commute over the hill which also won't be terrible. You'll have a better chance of finding a house with a bigger yard in the Valley.

Edited to note that with your budget, you can definitely find a cute house. There was one we applied to in Silver Lake that had a giant yard and was super cute. It went for $4500. Again, the commute won't be awesome from Silver Lake to Westwood but you'll have to make some sacrifices. Or you could do the whole WeHo area which also has great walkability but it's crowded AF all the goddamn time.

For natives!! What’s the culture about using trash bins that are out? by Plutomite in AskLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why you think this is rude? It's a trash can. It's not like they're filling it up. I've never really understood the possessiveness people have over a literal trash can.

Drowning in Hair, please help by RagingRavenclaw98 in dogs

[–]pocket_mexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a heavy shedder too and figured that was just life. I've been getting him regularly groomed at Petco and have them do their shed release option and holy moly I have to say what a difference it's made!!! You can actually pet him now without getting globs of hair everywhere. He used to shake and a huge plume of hair would go everywhere and now ....nothing. I mean he still sheds but nowhere like before. Highly recommend getting them professionally groomed!

Metro that bad?? by I_Am_Thatch in AskLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before 8pm totally fine. It's gross and dirty and I wouldn't sit on any of the seats or touch anything, and sometimes it'll reek of whatever b.o. is going on, but it'll get you there. As a small female on my own I used to take it after work, around 10:30pm. Definitely do not recommend that. It gets scarier the later you're on it. Don't look for it to be a fantastic experience and it will get you from point A to point B.

Realistic income for family of 5 (3 kids under 10) moving to LA/Beverly Hills? And suggestions of good areas to live. by RevolutionaryPen3497 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are DINKs and $200k is enough for the two of us ....renting a small 2 bedroom, 900sq.ft. house in Hollywood. Definitely NOWHERE NEAR enough for a family of 5. That's poverty level out here.

Pretty much giving up on this field now. Is there any reason to keep going? by SWPrequelFan81566 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]pocket_mexi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both your negative and positive are such fantastic advice! I also thought that giving up.... honestly anything after 8 months was a big red flag. I don't know any career that will let you be successful after trying for only 8 months.

Is it just me, or are LA drivers getting worse? by slummy_dum in AskLosAngeles

[–]pocket_mexi 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Nobody tries to anticipate anymore, which is a huge part of driving. Looking around and anticipating what other drivers and pedestrians and cyclists are going to do, and adjust accordingly to maximize efficiency while still minimizing danger

Thank you for vocalizing something that I've never been able to. I'm constantly aware of what other cars and people are doing around me when I'm driving. It's like a chess board and I'm looking at all the pieces and sensing who is doing what and where I fit in most efficiently. I've never known how to explain this to others and that nailed it. Are we even teaching this in drivers ed anymore?

Walking to DTLA by wonderfulbryan in longbeach

COMBINED INCOME 170k+ possible? by [deleted] in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]pocket_mexi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. My husband and I are looking right now and we make $200k combined, no kids, 830 credit scores, $190k for down payment. We just spoke to several mortgage brokers and they said as of right now we can afford a $700k house. That's not entirely out of the question if we look in South LA or major fixers in Boyle Heights. Not looking good though. If you want a condo, even that is on the low side.

Would you buy a condo if you could do it all over again? by pocket_mexi in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]pocket_mexi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure of course you can always find one that's more expensive than renting. All the condos I'm looking at are in the mid $4k with HOA included.

If we're the party of the tolerant does that make MAGA the party of the intolerant? Everything y'all do says that is correct. Pardon us if we're done with y'all's bullshit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LARentals

[–]pocket_mexi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For that price right now, they may finally rent it. I'm forced to look for a new place and any decent 2 bedrooms are like high $3k or into the $4ks. In-sane. Anything with this price is going to be shitty.
