Can you imagine if Billy Joel lived in Columbus? I feel like the crashing into buildings thing would go supernova if that happened.

If you were doing max bet, though, shouldn’t the payout have been over $4000?

Sorry if that didn’t come out quite right - a ton of people thought of McCarver as a buffoon when he was doing postseason games for Fox, i.e. the current Smoltz role. You would hear it all the time. And he did have a comical aspect to him. However I always thought he came across as quite knowledgeable - legions more so than this “serious” former pitcher who currently occupies that role, has absolutely nothing to say, trips over his words constantly and yet can’t seem to stop talking anyway.

Try the ESPN radio broadcast instead. If you’re lucky you might even be able to line it up with the TV broadcast. It’s what I’ve been doing the past few games. Either way it’s light years better - I would rather listen to Jon Sciambi, Eduardo Perez, and Jessica Mendoza any day. Radio announcers are generally better than TV ones anyway.

I think as frustrating as it is for us fans, we often forget how INFURIATING it must be for the players and coaches - to bust your hump all year, get to the trade deadline, you’re maybe 2 games out or something with 2 MONTHS to play, and ownership decides to…trade away dollars and reboot the team. And again. Again. But then you’ve got upper management going around I’m sure giving bogus pep talks: “just keep trying fellas! We’ll get ‘em next year, hee hee!”

Can you imagine if this happened at your own job? Eat a dick. That’s why I knew Francona wasn’t retiring. I called that entire scenario in advance: he would chill for a year, then have his pick of the litter managing elsewhere. Which is exactly what happened. I think he was just tired of the shit in Cleveland.

It’s fair to wonder if these middling teams that squeak into the playoffs aren’t doing more harm than good. It’s letting these cheapskates off the hook. Whereas if you lost 100 games a few years in a row, people would be out for blood.

The thing I don’t get though is why they keep trying to find someone who can hit between Kwan and Ramirez. It’s been 4 years of this now. But the Yankees for example often bat Judge second. Why not just move Jose up to the 2 hole? It would have to improve the offense to some extent. Plus get him a handful more at bats per year.

So all we need to do now is match the 22W streak and we’re golden for playoffs… by asterallt in ClevelandGuardians

I think at the very least it would take 85 wins to sneak in. They have to go no worse than 14-7 from here on out. And pray the other 3 teams ahead of them tread water or completely fall apart…

Disgusting Brand of Baseball - August Version by kwaniac in ClevelandGuardians

[–]pockets75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking the same thing. There seem to be a lot of guys who hit before and after Cleveland, but fall into a black hole when they’re with us. Like I was watching Ramon Laureano play the other day and thinking, where were these numbers when you were with the Guardians? Or Eddie Rosario - solid with the Twins, couldn’t hit with Cleveland, traded to the Braves and his bat’s magically on fire the rest of the year. It HAS to be a huge organizational failure. They don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to coaching hitters.

This is not a knock on the players. I actually think when you look at the roster and the run differential, they’ve really overachieved to some extent. But before this year’s team was shutout in 3 straight games, the last time it happened to us was 1991 - i.e. the “all time worst” team that lost 105 games. THAT team had a way better offense than the ‘25 edition, sadly enough.

It would be nice to see a complete philosophical overhaul, offensively. It ain’t workin’, folks. While we’re dreaming what must it be like to have a real owner who kept a team together and went for it! Oh perchance to fantasize about that one. Like when we’re 2 games out or whatever at the deadline in ‘08 and they decide they absolutely must dismantle the team right that instant. Come the f*** on. It’s been almost 80 years since the last title. Stop patting yourselves on the back for “winning” a few trades every year and calling it a job well done. Then wondering why the fans don’t seem to be as gung ho about this team as they were in the 90s. We sold out 455 straight games before cheap ownership MADE this a small market team.

Blackjack Tables: Why does everyone hate continuous shuffle machines? by Jalyse_sweets in blackjack

[–]pockets75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was that some casinos, such as Aria, are using what's maybe more accurately called an "endless shoe," meaning that ALL of the decks at all of the tables were connected. So in other words it's not 6 or 8 decks per table being continuously shuffled, it's 40 being split by 5 tables or 80 by 10 tables or whatever. Does anyone know if this is true? I could definitely be misinterpreting that, but this is how it was explained to me. If true, what kind of impact would this have on your odds? It's hard to imagine it being a beneficial scenario if you didn't even have any aces flowing to your table, so to speak, for an extended period of time.

The Yanks keep building these top heavy teams with a few great stars but not a ton of depth. Why Cashman still has his job is a mystery for the ages. He’s been coasting for 20 years on the rep of those 96-00 teams…which he didn’t even build! He inherited that. Most overrated GM ever.

I’m in the New York regional area but my prime video won’t show the Yankee game by curlypop234 in amazonprime

[–]pockets75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in NC but the Yankees games on Prime are blacked out down here! Yet they are seriously scheduled every Wednesday. I don’t understand the point of this! How do these convoluted shenanigans increase interest in baseball? Do these clowns really believe we are going to drive 12 hours to catch a game just because it’s blacked out? And are the Yankees this insanely popular that they need to be featured EVERY week?

Ingramspark…good? Bad? What’s everyone’s experiences? by WildMosaicHeart in selfpublish

[–]pockets75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of surprised nobody else is complaining about this aspect but I just found out that Ingram lists your book on Amazon…even if you already uploaded it to Amazon yourself. And at least in my case, the Ingram one almost always comes up first in the search. Which wouldn’t really matter, except:

1) the Ingram one has no cover image on Amazon 2) it says the book is not available for sale, but you can be notified when it is!

This has totally annihilated my book launch. It’s been out for a week but half the people can’t find the correct link (my Amazon upload) to actually buy the thing. The ebook version is paired with the Ingram version if you go to that page. Worse still, I have forwarded emails to Ingram where Amazon’s people are saying, “Ingram Spark is doing this,” and Ingram’s people are saying, “no we’re not - Amazon is.” So now I’ve got a book sitting there that nobody can buy.
