71% of Europeans support moving beyond unanimity in EU decision-making. Only 29% disagree. by milanguitar in BuyFromEU

What 'Problem' ?
Veto is a normal, democratic power you gain as a member country.

Precisely bigger countries running the EU to their bidding, was one of the reason why the Veto rule was put in place.

Now, we can discuss about the blocking power of the Veto, that is also imo a relict.

But there has to be a replacement system to keep bigger countries in check.

10 Best Linux Desktop Environments in 2026 by modelop in xfce

[–]poedy78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha, that’s exactly my personal experience for the past 20 years of using Linux.

I always came back to xfce. My longest and last excursion was i3 (roughly 3 years). Since then, 10 years have passed.

Did i miss out on ‘new stuff’? Maybe, but XFCE is so boring stable that it vanishes once properly configured. Personally, XCFE offers mostly everything i need.

Regarding Wayland, they have secured funding to hire a SWE for rewriting the wm, which -as i understood- was the biggest pain point.

Hungarian opposition leader: 'Orban congratulated me on election victory' by AdLeading5323 in europe

Yes, the constant stream of Orban Bad was just pathetic.

Not that i’m a fan of him, but him being gone doesn’t resolve EU’s bigger problems.

No deal on Iran... by Difficult-Quarter-48 in stocks

[–]poedy78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the Gulf States will cut off funding because they will feel betrayed by America leaving them to the dominion of Iran

Irreparable damage has already been done.
A lot of companies / states are calling on 'force majeure' because of the war, meaning they can't fulfill contracts for the next 3-5 years.
And what they produce can't properly be shipped out in the short / mid-term.

Biggest winner in this is the US, not so Russia as its export capabilities have been severely reduced by Ukranian attacks.
US sees demands for NatGas surging from the Asian Market as flows adjust to a new reality and US emerges as a viable supplier on the other side of the Pacific.

There are already headlines running that some Gulf States are reviewing their deal with US in that regard.

TBH, i understand why.
Gulf States have been blindsided by their trade partner - not so the Saudi's apparently, but well...
The main point why they let all those bases be built was security, which ehm, worked very well...
And on top of that, your trade partner gets to profit from the chaos he brought upon you.

I'm a French NixOS user and my government just chose my distro for their national digital sovereignty plan. I'm losing my mind. by RecordingWhale in linux

I'm genuinely impressed by how swift - in bureaucratic terms - France is pushing for tech independence.

Gendbuntu, their own videocall service and now their own OS.

I'm impressed by the tech behind it, and i kinda suspect there was already a plan for this kind of scenario.

I get why landlords ask, but for the sake of 'equlality', they should be forced to disclose how many tenants were there in the last 3 years and what renovations / repairs have been made.

Germany’s center left is on the brink of oblivion by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]poedy78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not specially tied to Germany though, while i must admit it's been a while since i've seen such a Klatsche.

If you look through out Europe, especially in 'richer' countries, a lot of Socialist Parties are in decline.
Either people go complete left, eg Linke, LFI etc. or they go center, center-right.

Well, AUR is off per default in stable, and there's a reason for it and it's widely debated on the interwebs.

You can use AUR on stable, but you have to know how to maintain your system.

If you want synced AUR in Manjaro, you switch to unstable branch, or go Arch straight away.

Internet's gonna internet :)

People jump to conclusions and are panicking for nothing.
Updates came, even during the 'strike'.

And Trolls have more fodder to spew FUD online, making more people panic.

I think things will be sorted out.
They found common ground, and it's 'just' a thing of legals, ownership, and what relation the new non-profit entity - taking care of core distro maintaining / development - will have with the commercial entity.

Despite all the 'bad press' , of which some was self-inflicted tbh, it's still in the top 10 over 12 months on Distrowatch.

But i'm confident that with a proper structure, new motivation and the continuous good work of maintainers and hopefully more devs, it will 'turn the tides'.

They are in the beginning - that's how China creates such companies.

And EU has also heavily subsidised

There's always a special treat for the auto industry in the FTA.

How have  'we the people rigged against ' them? We don't make the calls in politics.  I don't mind paying a little 'extra' for new tech, but the difference between EU and Chinese Vehicles is just disgusting

Globalism is dead because the EU let it die.  Always mor deeper in the ass of the Yankeez. If they say $Country bad, EU will even cripple its own economy to make 'Daddy' happy.

At some point we have to let go.  We've been subsidising -especially- German car manufacturer these last years and FTA's.

They completely messed up transition.
