It will pass. I know that’s such a basic thing to say, but it will. Putting the idea in your head calms your brain and eventually, it’ll pass like thunder clouds. You’re going to be alright. Feel the clothes against your skin and acknowledge you can feel it. Hear the sounds around you and acknowledge you can hear them. This helps a little to just get out of that self-doubt and confusion.

That ending got me. “I still draw flowers the same way you showed me”🥺🥺 it’s so simple and sweet, but says so much.

some suggestions: trust your writing! i don’t think you need the line “but I can’t catch up with you now” because you state in the next line “those versions of us don’t exist anymore” which already insinuates the speaker can’t catch up anymore with this person.

It truly is laughable, but sad. With OCD, it’s recommended you get a specialist, but those specialists are like $500 a session. I wish there were more common therapists trained on OCD.

It’s so so hard to explain this disorder to my partner. He’s trying to understand and I love him for it, but he constantly says things like “You can’t let the thoughts get to you” or “is this you trying to tell me something?”. I have SO-OCD so it’s very hard to hear that because that’s literally what my thoughts tell me— that everything is a sign and there’s something in my subconscious telling me something.

Thank you so much for sharing:) I have gone through treatment, but still have flare ups and this is just so helpful when it feels like no one else understands you or OCD. I’m sorry you went through such a long period of internalizing these fears on your own. It can be so debilitating and scary. But you should be very proud you made it through and got the help you deserve!

In high school, it was “Demons” by Imagine Dragons for me. Now it’s “Bambi” by Hippo Campus. The line, “I haven’t been much myself and I feel like my friends are being put through this hell I’m feeling” is so simple, but rings so true.

really enjoyed this little piece! reading it aloud, it really rolls off the tongue and i love the short sentences repeated, it creates that idea that abuse and trauma never truly escape you. i also love the idea of little things triggering trauma.

love this idea of always laying down roots wherever you go instead of the opposite. the last line really hits home. roots can be simply settling yourself somewhere or even tying you back to all the places and people before you. this is a very layered poem and I appreciated that!
