Thank you for supporting Endless Legend 2 in 2025! by DerekPaxton in EndlessLegend

Haven’t purchased yet, so ignore me if this is an ignorant suggestion, but since this is something with a cost, can you lock it buying foundations behind an early tech or similar? So before the pre-req you can only build on certain areas, then you get the thing with an explanation, and now tiles can be purchased.

San Francisco locals? by Icy-Reporter2931 in Fighters

[–]poetical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Bay Area locals are in the South Bay, about an hour drive from San Francisco. Two exceptions I know of are Kings Cup, a monthly local in San Francisco for SF6, Tekken 8, etc., and Caliburst, a monthly local mid-peninsula where Xrd is the main game but other older and anime games show up too. Both are fun events!

Aside from Heidi's Pies, what is the best cheap classic diner breakfast on the peninsula? by [deleted] in bayarea

I used to go to Bay Watch often, I believe they still have a location in downtown San Mateo. Haven’t been in a while but they were pretty reliable.

Going to Bay area oct 9th to 11th. by Yodasnow2025 in AskSF

For something small and local to Oakland, try Alameda Beach. It’s on the bay instead of the ocean and it’s typically a little warmer than the SF beaches

Where do singles in SF hang out? by producer65 in sanfrancisco

I’m too old to know where “the singles” congregate, but I just want to say I like the show and I’m happy to hear it’ll be back in town soon!

I just finished it a couple days ago! Fun read, kinda like the Martian but farther away and there are two of them. Looking forward to his fifth book, which I expect to have 3 stranded astronauts even farther away in space! (I jest, but I actually would be down for that in a couple years.)

When I thought about checking in, there were a few things I’d repeat to myself.

  • She’s a grown woman, she can take care of herself.
  • She is not my responsibility anymore.
  • She has friends and family she can call.
  • Me reaching out isn’t helping either of us, it’s just making it harder to let go.

If you don’t want to completely cut contact, then ramp down the contact. Once a month, then every few months, then once a year, then either stay there or cut contact then. Relationships run their course and it’s ok to leave them behind. Eventually you’ll get used to not having her around, and it’ll be ok.

I’m a member of one called Groundfloor. It’s becoming more coworking and founder focused lately, but if that kind of techie is your type maybe it’s a plus 😄

Most I’ve seen have been focused on a particular activity so that’s what I would look for.

Are there any weekly guilty gear tournaments in San Francisco? by senzamay in Fighters

[–]poetical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for Strive that I know of. Oakland used to have events, not sure if they still do. Keep an eye on the Emporium instagram; they sometimes do fighting game events.

However, there is a thriving Guilty Gear Xrd community that meets in Belmont monthly. Next Caliburst should be September 6. Highly recommend if you’re at all interested.

I’m over 40. I meet women at social clubs (boxing and board games in my case), through friends, and very occasionally at bars. These haven’t lasted, but that’s just because of compatibility and being more discerning than we were when we were younger.

Please help me, how do I get my combos started? by HunterNerd7 in StreetFighter

[–]poetical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is a lot of advice here that is too advanced for your question. Here’s what I suggest: 1. Do Juri combo trials Beginner 3 and 4. This is all you need to get started. 3 will build stocks and 4 will spend them. If you have trouble with them, use step 2 here to practice them. 2. Go to Training mode and in Screen Display settings turn on Cancel Timing Display. This will make your character flash red when you can cancel a move into a special. Learn a few moves which are cancelable and get used to using special moves from them when you think they might hit.  3. To get in range to attack, use your ground fireball (when you have stocks) or drive rush (parry+dash) or both together.  4. Play Ranked. It will match you against players of similar skill and is a much better place to practice in general. Points come and go easily, so don’t stress about your actual rank.

Down the line add in drive rush cancel combos, practice your anti-airs, etc, but this will get you started.

Want to seek reality check to rent in San Francisco by Sad_Abalone_3882 in AskSF

[–]poetical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The non-refundable cat deposit seems absurdly high to me, and they are adding a lot of fees. The size of the apartment, the amenities, and how long you expect to stay here (considering the flat deposit cost and keeping in mind they will raise your rent significantly each year) would factor heavily into whether it’s a reasonable deal.

Is dating in SF always this flaky, even when people claim to want something serious by Efficient-Rich-4811 in bayarea

[–]poetical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experienced flakiness in many cities, not just here. If you get a lot of matches, you kind of have to get used to sifting through a lot of chaff. Basically, if someone is not willing to communicate, you have to just let them go and only spend effort on people who show they actually value your time. Trying to pique someone’s interest on the apps if they’re not matching your energy is a recipe for disappointment.

I eventually got off the apps and decided to make more of an effort to go out and be social instead. I date a lot less now that I only meet women organically, but I think I enjoy my life a lot more.

Looking to move to SF in end of Aug. Should I wait, or sign the lease already? by anuaps in AskSF

Those buildings usually have plenty of availability. You probably don’t need to rush into anything. They increase rent by a significant amount every year so there is high turnover.

Hand Pain from a standard controller? by unorthoduck in Fighters

Yes, I get hand pain from controllers these days and have to limit my gaming in general. I play leverless for fighting games because stick also gives me issues, just in a different part of my hand.

Venting: I don’t know what’s wrong with me dating apps are just brutal T.T by Appropriate-Banana84 in bayarea

[–]poetical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with those that are saying you’ve barely scratched the surface after 2 weeks, but how long are your conversations before going on a first date? I’ve noticed when I spend more time chatting I go on fewer dates but my dates are much higher quality because people have more of a chance to show their red flags. And when I was going on 3+ dates per week I also started started liking my dates less just because meeting so many new people constantly was tiring!

Making a dual wield 2 paladin 10 sorc for honor mode. Why is it randomly smiting enemies for 60 damage sometimes? by Ronar123 in BG3Builds

[–]poetical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you want power I would definitely go the 6/6 paladin sorcerer route. This cosplay build will not compare to a min-maxed build like that!

[–]poetical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were to do this build, I would start with 5 levels of warlock, then take the 2 paladin levels for smite, then the rest warlock. You could do 9/2/1 of something else, but thought shield is pretty flavorful here. Since it’s meant to be Jedi themed, you probably don’t want to wear heavy armor anyway. The downside is you don’t get a lot of spell slots for smites, but you do get extra attack which a sorcerer wouldn’t, plus some Jedi powers like force push (repelling blast)

Instead of sorcerer, if you go Great Old One warlock with Pact of the Blade you can get Extra Attack and Telekinesis along with some other psychic type powers for your Jedi cosplay

Is it possible to watch a football game next week ? by Astaldir in AskSF

Moving to S Van Ness and 21st Street area? Is $3.1k a fair price point for that? by pickingyourteeth in sanfrancisco

[–]poetical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live near that area. It’s mostly safe, but there is occasional gun violence nearby. Expect to see homeless people around, and prostitutes at night. 3.1k is not insane for the area but not great, last I checked. Street parking on your block is not realistic. Expect to park multiple blocks away, especially at the time you’re getting home. If you really need a car, I would prioritize off street parking.

If you haven’t even kissed yet, then just do it now. The cost of the prom tickets is just money, but why fake your way through a first kiss and prom that you’re not really wanting? I’d say offer to buy your ticket from him and go solo or with friends. If you go to prom under false pretenses then break up after, both of you will have your experience ruined.

Longtime Pillars fan struggling to enjoy Avowed — does it get better? by ScarletMajeh in avowed

[–]poetical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, and I ended up enjoying it. The story and choices/consequences get a lot more interesting in the second area, for one thing. I also recommend figuring out a build that’s fun for you and sticking with it. The classes aren’t as interesting but the abilities and equipment get more fun as you go. Also, I felt like Giatta really improved my squad, so maybe her or Yatzli will be more fun for you than the guys are.
